McCain lost FIVE!!!!! U.S. Navy aircraft
vietnamveteransagainstjohn… — McCain's third crash occurred when he was returning from flying a Navy trainer solo to Philadelphia for an Army-Navy football game. Timberg reported that McCain radioed, "I've got a flameout" and went through standard relight procedures three times before ejecting at one thousand feet. McCain landed on a deserted beach moments before the plane

- Cache22, on 01/23/2008, -5/+15I'm no fan of McCain but this is clearly a mix of facts, fiction, and spin. I really don't know or care if he was a lousy pilot or not, but if all 5 crashes were his fault shouldn't there be more details of what he did wrong to cause the loss of aircraft? And number 4 is definitely not his fault according to the very article in question:
"McCain's fourth aircraft loss occurred July 29, 1967, soon after he was assigned to the USS Forrestal as an A-4 Skyhawk pilot. While seated in the cockpit of his aircraft waiting his turn for takeoff, an accidently fired rocket slammed into McCain's plane. He escaped from the burning aircraft, but the explosions that followed killed 134 sailors, destroyed at least 20 aircraft, and threatened to sink the ship."
So it wasn't his rocket that fired, yet the implication is he was responsible for 134 deaths. Rubbish ... I don't like the man for many reasons, but this article is just plain disgusting.- Minarchian, on 01/23/2008, -4/+6I didn't get that at all out of that article. They simply stated facts.
Are the facts what makes you upset?- Cache22, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4This is no different than the Ron Paul newsletter smears. Some of those articles simply stated facts as well, but intentionally left out the parts that proved Dr. Paul didn't know about or write the newsletters. McCain has a lot of flaws, and I think he is a terrible candidate, but why stoop to the level of TNR?

As for the newsletters you really need to read them to see what TNR has done. Because there really isn't any racism to be found once you read the whole thing. But with McCain there is an active campaign to keep people from knowing the truth by our own Government. There's a big difference there. - Cache22, on 01/23/2008, -2/+3I do agree that he's not a hero and there are many things McCain's supporters aren't aware of that they should be, and also that media is unfairly censoring Paul, but that article is (in my opinion) not the way to do it. I have invested lots of time and money into Ron Paul's campaign and feel that this undermines my efforts. When it comes to the MSM, this stuff will likely just be spun into a story accusing his opponents of dirty tactics, regardless of how much truth it holds. Sure it may cause a few McCain supporters to form some seeds of doubt, do some research and find the real truth, but how many people will use this as additional ammuntion against us? I'm not implying Paul supporters wrote this, but all it takes it one person supporting (or pretending to support) Dr. Paul to promote these ideas for the media to have new material to try to use against us. To use one of Dr. Paul's favorite words: Blowback.

- Tangaroa, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1What makes me upset? The fact that this site using a nonissue to smear the honor of a man who served his country honorably and spent five years in a torture camp for it. It's like the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" except possibly even more evil.
- ringelman5, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2It takes a LOT of "honor" to dump your frumpy broken 'old model' wife in order to marry someone young enough to be your daughter after carrying on an adulterous affair with her.
Yessirreeee, he's MY hero. NOT

- SouthsideIrish, on 01/23/2008, -1/+5And film of the Forrestal incident was on the History Channel, so I have seen this one, and it definitely wasn't McCain's fault. Getting shot down was not his fault, and depending on what plane he was flying a flameout was not his fault, because jets back then had a tendency to drop like a rock once the engines went out.
I cannot stand McCain, but this is just not right. - fonguleverybody, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1It doesn't really matter if the crashes were his fault. Any other pilot loses his/her wings after 2 lost aircraft regardless of fault. His dad's status allowed him to continue to fly.
- KnightofMars, on 02/22/2008, -0/+0Very true. It's a sad fact that in the military, there are officers called "blue bloods" who come from officer family lines who can pretty much skate by on things that those of us who enlisted or had to make it up through the officer corps without familial reputation would never get away with. McCain is, sorry to say, a "blue blood", and that was how he stayed in the cockpit when anyone else would have been drummed out.

- Curlz31, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9I hear he has been able to stop the release of his military records. Why would he do that?

This is what'll happen to the U.S. if this neoconservative warmonger becomes President: we'll all die and he'll make it out alive and rich.

- hydroplane, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1Launchpad McQuack downed a few planes but he still got the job done!
- dagnabbit, on 01/24/2008, -5/+7Um let's stick to the man's policies, and not attack his service to his country. This article is utter *****.
- abenton, on 01/24/2008, -3/+5All of you who sit here and make fun of him should stop, this man served his country, and spent years as a POW, this man has given his country more than most any other of our time. You can hate on his politics, personal life, etc, but until you man up and do and see what he's done, can it.
- fonguleverybody, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2I served my country, too. I will therefore criticize him til I'm tickled pink. There's another article written about an interview with another vietnam vet named Jack McLamb. This man has a bunch of POW buddies and a few that were in the Hanoi Hilton with McCain. The word is that he was never tortured because he would spill his guts whenever he was questioned. His fellow POWs dubbed him "Songbird" McCain. Check out this informative site called Veterans against John McCain. http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/
- tjdubya, on 01/24/2008, -3/+2I didn't pay close attention to the URL of the article and actually thought this was a Pro-McCain article. After reading it, I certainly don't view McCain as any less of a hero. So I guess... FAIL. Then again I didn't think the swift boat crap last election made Kerry seem any less of a hero either.
No matter how much spin you put on it, these people risked their lives for their country and deserve respect for that fact.- fonguleverybody, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Doesn't seem like less of a hero? Try this one. It should do the trick. http://digg.com/politics/Top_Cop_Says_McCain_Was_N ...
- shupy, on 01/24/2008, -2/+2Shows that those who stoop to fabricating slander about decorated veterans know no party loyalty. They are all cowards who have not the guts or balls to truly call themselves Americans.
- ringelman5, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1Lose the bogus ***** illusion of the left / right paradigm. Those you term 'cowards' at least have the lucidity and grit to fight for maintaining our nation's sovereignty in the face of global fascism.
You really ought research the CFR's plan to control BOTH Donkeys and Pachyderms. Their members are mostly indistinguishable from one another in their "bi-partisan" efforts, which seem to occur regularly.
