- JCO8, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1In an article in last Fridays' and Saturdays' 'The Independent", a British newspaper, a young man in Afghanistan may still be facing the death penalty just for downloading from the Islamist Internet an article about the backward 'shuffling' of the newly democratic government policy towards women in his country, and sharing this article with fellow university students and professors. I have already signed a petition which you'll find a link to in the article, joining many other international 'neighbors' who are unable to just stand by and do nothing while an innocent man dies for what radical islamists in the government call 'blasphemous' actions and therefore unpardonable sins. Because of international response to these actions this young man 23 years old, is now going through the regular civil law processes which he should have been able to avail himself of to begin with and was forbidden from. Even his family is now endangered even if he is eventually freed, because of constant death threats from extremists in his own country. Is there anything that our government can do to help this person who is in such dire circumstance? If so, what? I trust that of all people, you can understand his plight. Thank you sir for your kind attention to my plea on his behalf.
