McCain: "It's Tough In Some Respects" To Be Proud Of America
huffingtonpost.com — Dan Abrams played a video during his MSNBC show of John McCain saying, "I didn't really love America until I was deprived of her company." Abrams speculated that the video could help to undermine the right wing's attacks on Michelle Obama for her comment about being proud of her country for the first time in her whole life.

- TheWindwalker, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2Just how many of McCain’s fellow Armed Forces Personnel were sacrificed to secure his security???? Just how many people got sold out and suffered endless torture and death when they were sold out by McCain????
In 1979, after hearing numerous complaints and allegations regarding McCain’s stay at the Hanoi Hilton, I approached MI with my concerns. Eleven days after I had questioned McCain’s intersections (while being captive in Viet Nam), I was called in front of three high ranking officers from the Military Intelligence Branch where I was ordered to cease my inquiries regarding McCain.
Two months later (around the middle of Nov. 1979) I was approached (off the base) by a gentleman who informed me that I was not to make any further inquiries regarding McCain. When I questioned him as to why I was bluntly informed that, with McCain’s family background it would go against my military career if I continued to raise questions….that McCain was being protected!!!! At this time I was informed that any information that I had received would be regarded as classified and if I indulged in my inquiries any further I could be charged with treason. He made it very clear that McCain was off limits….period.
In Feb. 1980 I was advised that I should leave the Army (that due to my inquiries regarding military personnel and their involvement in the war effort in Viet Nam I had overstepped my responsibilities and had violated military periodical). Two months later I was officially discharged (with a full pension) and was asked to leave the U.S.A. (The Army made it well worth my while to get out (of both the Army and the U.S.A.)) I guess that they saw, through my past actions, that I was not going to let this issue go away and/or to be buried so they decided to get rid of me.
In 1985, while at a branch of the Canadian Legion, I ran into a group of former POW’S who had been interned at the Hanoi Hilton when McCain was there. What they talked about re-raised my curiosity as to McCain’s actions (during the time that he was a guest at the Hilton) .
Not being restricted by the rules and regulations of the U. S. Army and/or the U. S. Government (I was not in the Army any longer and I was living outside of the U. S. A. therefore I was no longer under their laws) I restarted my inquiries regarding McCain’s actions while he was a guest of the Hanoi Hilton. Little did I know the hornet’s nest that I was opening nor the extent that the U. S. Army was going to go to protect McCain. (After McCain was released and was returned to the U.S.A. he (because of his family history and his families contacts in both the U .S. Army and the U.S. government ) He was portrayed as a patriot and hero…that any information contrary was suppressed and over-ruled. Once again I got a visit from a “M.I.” type and was ordered to stop any inquiries regarding McCain’s history. At this time I, not being governed by their laws, told them to go to hell and offered them a personal escort.
Since that time I have interviewed numerous former POW’S (that had been interned at the Hanoi Hilton and had known of McCain). What they informed me of only confirmed my past inquiries. It became very obvious that McCain had, through his actions, informed on different American Armed forces Personnel and their involvement and actions while on duty; had acted as a source of information for his captors; and had overseen the interrogation of numerous American Armed Forces Personnel by the North Viet Nam’s Army. It became quite apparent that McCain was (or had been) a “CAPO” working directly for his captors.
When I approached the U. S. government about what I had found I was, once again, threatened with court marshal and treason (even though I was in a foreign country (Canada) and no longer in the U. S. Army thus not governed by their rules). The next day (after I had received a phone call from a person identifying himself as an information officer) I was raided by the Canadian R.C.M.P (who had a Canadian search warrant) and all my records were siezed. (I was, at this time, informed (by a plain clothed R. C. M.P . Officer) that it would be very easy for me to go to sleep in Canada and wake up across the boarder if the U. S. authorities so wanted).
Since then I found out that those who I had received information from were (like wise) visited by “gentlemen” with U. S. accents. They were told (to a person) not to talk about, not to pass on any information regarding, and not to relate any information regarding their stay at the Hanoi Hilton. They were, at this time, informed that they were not to have any contact with me and/or have any further conversations regarding the military and/or their experiences in Viet Nam. A week later I was asked to leave the Canadian Legion and was refused entry to any of their buildings and functions.
I now realize that the U. S. government had, because of his family’s connections, raised McCain to the position of National Hero. Any information regarding him and/or his atrocities while being interned at the Hanoi Hilton were buried and his record was re-written to reflect only information that favored him. I had tried to open a closed book and have over the years (and still am) suffered the consequences.
I burns me up that a person, because of his family’s history, can get away with “War Crimes” and have his history re-written. McCain was a “CAPO” who sold out his own troops…period….and have gotten away with it. Now he wants to govern the U. S.A… …God Help Us.
Michael Saunders (Major retired U. S. Army) - Pillage, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1I saw this segment and Abrams was stretching this to try and connect this comment to Michelle Obama's that even the two liberals on the panel wouldn't agree completely with hin: apples and oranges.
