McCain, Campaign Mgr Involved in Deal Costing 8000 Ohio Jobs watch!
youtube.com — Over 8000 Ohio Jobs are "on the choppping block" because John McCain and his campaign manager, former lobbyist Rick Davis, were actively involved in a deal that resulted in control of those jobs being shifted to a foreign corp. In a town hall, McCain's "Straight Talk" omits his and Davis's roles, and the $600,000 Davis's firm earned on the deal.

I haven't heard word one from CNN on it. Fox has a video that you can open but it doesn't work...all the other links do though. Hmmmm.....
If not for the more liberal Internet sources, I would not have known about this at all. These MSM Bastards must actually Like McCain.

- Pittance, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2The MSM likes competition. If they started posting stuff like this so early in the game, it would be an easy win for Obama in under a month. And then what would they have to report?
- SEN5241, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Perhaps McCain and Obama (and their respective croneys) aren't the issue with those 8000 jobs that disappeared. Maybe it was better overall for the companies involved that these jobs go.
It's never easy to tell someone their job is going away. However, companies that can cut unnecessary costs gain the ability to create more jobs elsewhere (and higher-paying jobs at that).

If you didn't see it coming, you only have yourself to blame when the other shoe drops. - ZenMojo, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Hey, one daily tracking poll shows Obama 1 point away from McCain and the networks eat it up. An extended poll shows Obama with a consistent 10 point lead over McCain with working class whites and a 2 to 1 lead with all working class voters and you've still got reporters stupidly asking if Obama's "elitism" makes it hard for typical Americans to vote for him.
Hell, nearly 6 out of 10 polled say Obama shares their values but the reporters are obsessed with the 4 out of 10 who don't think so.- Pittance, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Dead heats make for great news reporting and terrific ratings. Is anyone really surprised? Thanks for the poll data Zen.

- Syrisgone, on 08/08/2008, -1/+1If Americans wanted to work for Chinese pay and under Chinese conditions?
Yeah, because the American dream is to work in a ***** sweat shop. - djholybolt, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1Capt Shaun. You are a very thick-headed individual.
We as Americans have a better idea of a 'work environment' than the Chinese do. We have a more realistic idea of a 'wage' than the Chinese do. We also have labor laws, something China doesn't. We aren't China. We don't want China's ***** manufacturing. We don't want lead in toys and dangerous chemicals in the plastics we handle on a daily basis.
Jobs if kept in America can be very affordable and the only reason companies export jobs is to make more money than they already are by cutting the labor in half. They're making money in the first place, they're just greedy.
Let me also ask.. Would you work under the same conditions as the Chinese for the pay they're offered?
Didn't think so.

I grew up in Wilmington, OH, the city where these jobs are going to be lost. First off, it's not 8,000 on the cutting block--it's up to 6,000, which is obviously devastating for the area. But this wasn't something forced onto the city. The city and the airpark worked with DHL and we all thought it was going to work out for the best and really help the area out. What happened is that it started losing money and DHL backed out, which was a bit of a betrayal and it sucked big time. What's going to happen now is uncertain.- ouzome, on 08/08/2008, -10/+4word from the horses mouth and you get digged down because it doesn't fit the oblama agenda, go figure!
- wisefool9, on 08/08/2008, -10/+5I'm sorry, I mean I am a freakin' left-winger for sure, but I have a hard time pinning this on them. If McSame and Davis weren't involved in the deal, it would've been some other schmucks fulfilling their roles. The transaction needed a seller and a buyer more than it needed old Crony and his Neocons.
That said, Gobama.- funkyloki, on 08/08/2008, -1/+6You are correct. But, no matter that any greedy sonuvabitch could have fit this role, it was McCain and Davis. We can't excuse them just because somebody else would have done it if they hadn't.

- homercles337, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Can any ONE of you single McCain supporters explain why you support him? Just a few sentences that can be verified as true. It seems that the GOP is full of lies and McCain supporters are simply spouting the lies from the GOP. I seriously want to know why you support this guy. It defies logic after the last 8 years. True? I dunno. But this isn't France, this is how things are done here.
Tough luck for McCain though, heh? - jci345, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3I was hoping this would come up on digg. No joke, I work at DHL in Wilmington Ohio. This was a big discussion today between all the employees. I am actually a "temp" there, and they have a hiring freeze going on, because DHL is selling out to UPS. It sucks because im friends with a lot of people who have been there for 10 - 20 - 30 years and their jobs will be canned
- queenbee93, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Not only will THEY be canned--but as a temp. you no longer have an "ace in the hole" to keep your temp job there either--you will probably be one of the first to go and now your friends will not be able to put in a good word for you either, since they will no longer have jobs there.
- jci345, on 08/08/2008, -0/+0Yeah, it sucks. The ratio of temps to full time there is like 70/30. 70% being temps. At least thats how it is in my department. We've all pretty much accepted that we are going to be screwed

You're going to see the $200bn a year spent in iraq cut off. You're going to see this money going into building new industry - solar, wind, tidal, ethanol, hydrogen etc. power. You're going to see our roads and bridges fixed.
Sounds like a plan to me. But don't trust me, go read for yourself. Under the last eight years of republicanism, executive pay has gone from 50 x average employee salary to 260 x average employee salary. Your CEO is making on average 260 times what you make. What once was Democrat is now Republican for 2 important reasons. Republicans found 3 things that were even more important to 'working class' ie, low to middle class voters, than money. Religion, a generic redefined Patriotism, and safety of their families. There is one thing that can tie all 3 together in a nice pretty bow. It is called Fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of something different, fear of going to hell, etc etc.
Sadly, many people who are now voting Republican don't have the education level of some of their party members. They can't see that Republicans have taken 3 relatively important and positive concerns/issues and have turned them on their head to abuse them and scare you.
Though the basis for religion is to help guide people to becoming a better husband/wife, father/mother, and treat others as you would like to be treated, organized religion has been used to control people for thousands of years and wage a majority of the wars during the brief history of modern man.
Patriotism has been totally co-opted into something unrecognizable. Patriotism ie love of one's country doesn't mean to turn a blind eye when one's country is going down a path that you do not feel is right. And yet, many of these now Republican voters feel that if you question what our leaders are doing with our country's assets(people, money, ideas) then you are unpatriotic. One should only watch the recent Discovery Channel series on China featuring Ted Koppel to see that there are many Chinese who are also turning a blind eye to their country's human rights issues because they too are confusing patriotism for their country with trust in their government.
Finally, the safety of your family is a true concern for anyone. It is a deep underlying feeling. And because of that, Republicans have been able to do a very good job of feeding the fear that if you vote D, then your family could be in the line of fire soon. Little do they tell you that it will be your lower income to middle class family that will actually have their sons and daughters serve and protect the country. And when they do, that fear of the safety for your family has now become real, because your boy is now flying to Iraq to fight in a war.
Bravo Republicans for using some basic psychology to grab the votes of some good people who happen to be uneducated on the realities of your governing ideas. Uneducated because you helped to take money away from the public education system for years and years. Sadly, if something is not done this election year, then the cycle will continue.
