McCain Booed At Martin Luther King Speech
huffingtonpost.com — McCain's voting record since 1990 doesn't support his explanation that he changed his mind about the MLK holiday. In addition to voting to oppose a state holiday in 1987 (which he later supported) and a federal holiday in 1989, McCain voted in 1994 to cut funding for the commission that promoted King's holiday.

- zephyear, on 04/04/2008, -12/+4
liebermann has to explain everything to mccain- piper999, on 04/04/2008, -5/+15Yes we get the joke.
- piratehead, on 04/05/2008, -2/+4It's funny because McCain doesn't understand things until Lieberman explains.
- StepCousin, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1I understood that it was an attempt at humor, but it certainly wasn't funny.
- piper999, on 04/04/2008, -5/+15Yes we get the joke.

Lieberman: "They weren't booing you sir, they were... saying.... boo-urns... boooo-urns"
McCain asking the crowd: "Were you saying boo or boo-urns?"- rheaume, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2BOOOOOO!

- meltlight, on 04/04/2008, -28/+34Really? McCain has a black man hold an umbrella for him while he gives a speech to a black audience commemorating the assassination of Dr. King, America's most revered black leader.

- Kamatz, on 04/05/2008, -6/+2He's just looking for racism when there is none present, people often do this as a last ditch effort to prove a point.
- Nodnarbs, on 04/05/2008, -5/+8I don't think anyone was accusing anyone of being a racist or of racism. I think the point is that McCain is totally oblivious and every word of that speech was really insincere. I mean, the fact that this white politician is standing in front of a bunch of black people talking about MLK with with a black guy holding his umbrella for him stands out, its awkward, and it reminds of what was(is?) wrong in America. If McCain wasn't totally oblivious he would have picked up on this and held his own damn umbrella. There's alot of symbolism there and it matters and if you want to be president you need to be aware of it.
- captric, on 04/05/2008, -0/+5He CANT hold is umbrella because he cannot raise his arms high enough due to injuries sustained while being TORTURED ( and I am not talking about pansy ass water boarding either) while a POW in North Vietnam. He didn't know about Martin Luther King 15 YEARS AFTER HE DIED? I would respect the apology if he hadn't embedded it in an obvious lie. - steelersfan7roe, on 04/04/2008, -18/+51I can't stand Bush-McCain as much as the rest of you, but he wasn't booed.
The crowd threw comments up as he admitted voting against the Luther Holiday and the comments the crowd threw up were mixed.
Listen carefully as one says "its alright we all make mistakes."
We can dislike McCain for a lot of reasons, let make them real reasons.- blackinthmiddle, on 04/04/2008, -12/+25Sorry, this is a real reason to me. I don't necessarily dislike him. However, for him to use the piss-poor excuse (aka lie) that he didn't know about Dr. Martin Luther King and his work because he was overseas is right up there with the dog ate my homework!
- steelersfan7roe, on 04/04/2008, -7/+12wait wait, don't get me wrong.
You can dislike McCain for voting against the measure to make MLK day a federal holiday.
What shouldn't be done is what this article does, mislead people to events that occurred. He wasn't really booed, that was my point, nothing more.- blackinthmiddle, on 04/05/2008, -1/+3Got you.
- steelersfan7roe, on 04/04/2008, -7/+12wait wait, don't get me wrong.

- yojiffyskippy, on 04/05/2008, -3/+5Actually, if you listen to the audio, you'll hear a mixed response with the most vocal responses being "we all make mistakes" and "we forgive you". Whether you like him or not, changing the facts isn't a matter of semantics.
- boombye, on 04/05/2008, -1/+1I heard some angry jeering, while on my computer, looking up stuff about Battlestar Galactica, and then I turn my head and see McCain before the tv fades next to what Hillary had to say today. I didn't hear what McCain said, but I heard some angry jeering that caught my attention and caused me to look at my tv and find out what that was all about it.
- catachip, on 04/05/2008, -1/+4If you watch the CNN coverage you see the ONE guy at the front says loudly we all make mistakes. It was not more than that. McCain had to stop speaking at one point because he kept getting interrupted. I can't believe you can have such a distorted view of the same video footage.
- boombye, on 04/07/2008, -0/+1Seriously, and I got dugg down for recounting my own experience. Repugnants hate the truth, cuz the truth hurts.

Yeah, it was a mixed response. Doesn't mean he was not booed. I actually felt a little bad for him.
This is a ridiculous thread. - lhbaker, on 04/05/2008, -1/+4He's promising to support the creating of a holiday he has vehemently opposed in the past. John McCain is Bob Dole.

- petrodollar, on 04/05/2008, -6/+31Dirty little secret: a LOT of conservatives oppose MLK day. Michael Savage has said on many occasions that it's B.S. because even Washington and Lincoln only get "President's Day," rather than their own named holidays. Apparently conservatives think it's unfair that MLK should get his own holiday when other notable figures are forced to share.
Of course, this does seem like a rather petty little complaint, which is why it seems obvious that what really gets them hot and bothered is the fact that Americans are forced to honor a revolutionary who almost single-handedly transformed race relations in America, brought an end to segregation, and was the driving force behind civil rights.- patpl22391, on 04/05/2008, -6/+3We should have a day to celebrate every leader who has done something positive, then we would be working two days a week in order to observe all these holidays.

- birdmanrush, on 04/05/2008, -2/+1I am a conservative and believe in MLK Day. But to seriously not believe Washington and Lincoln should have separate holidays? They were the Real revolutionaries who established this country. To say all conservatives do not believe in the holiday is absurd. - petrodollar, on 04/05/2008, -2/+6Washington was a monarchist who didn't really give two ***** about democracy and human rights and all that. "Taxation without representation" might be the weakest revolutionary cry in all of human history.

He set for decades of misery.- 88iou, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2Yet after the Civil War, black people got treated to years of informal and legal segregation until the Civil Rights Movement. Jim Crow anybody?
Also, when will white leaders teach their people not to automatically support giving their rights away under manufactured threats? When will white leaders tell their communities to quit attacking the mysterious "Others" in order to ignore the real issues at hand? When will white leaders tell their kids that guns aren't the answer, so if you get bullied at school, don't go and shoot up your classmates, then off yourself? See, I could continue with the stereotypical questions, but I think I've made my point.
- 88iou, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2Yet after the Civil War, black people got treated to years of informal and legal segregation until the Civil Rights Movement. Jim Crow anybody?
- Di0genes, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2"which is why it seems obvious that what really gets them hot and bothered is the fact that Americans are forced to honor a revolutionary who almost single-handedly transformed race relations in America"
While I agree with your underlying sentiment, this sentence strikes me as being weird and partly false. Martin-Luther King (who was not a revolutionary in any honest use of the word) did not single-handedly transform race relations in America, both considering he was only the most notable of a number of civil rights leaders, some of them secular, and because the Civil Rights Act he helped to bring about, which I assume you are talking about, did no such thing. Race relations were not changed through a law, and the idea that they could be seems somewhat bizarre. No, it took and is in the process of taking time, economic transcendence, and the dispersion of information afforded by technology.
It is likely that John Mccain opposed Martin Luther King Day because he saw it as an attempted advance in the culture wars - King was more than just a civil rights leader, he was an icon of the poor and a symbol for the new Left. Let us not forget that politicians are held captive by the ignorance of the mass from whom their power is secured, and Martin Luther King, quite deservedly in my opinion, is viewed as an enemy by the ignorant.- petrodollar, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Sure, there were social factors at play. And note that I did not say that civil rights "tranformed race relations," but that MLK himself did. Which he did, by becoming a black figure that won the hearts and minds of a substantial portion of the white electorate. There were other leaders, yes, but none of them had anything like King's impact on white Americans' psyche.
"Race relations were not changed through a law, and the idea that they could be seems somewhat bizarre."
The law put an end to segregation. It forced whites to share public and private facilities with non-whites. How did that not change race relations?
"Let us not forget that politicians are held captive by the ignorance of the mass from whom their power is secured, and Martin Luther King, quite deservedly in my opinion, is viewed as an enemy by the ignorant."
So in other words, conservatives are ignorant and John McCain was playing up to their ignorance by refusing to honor MLK. Thanks for confirming my point!
- petrodollar, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Sure, there were social factors at play. And note that I did not say that civil rights "tranformed race relations," but that MLK himself did. - 0zzy, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1I agree with them. Does that make me bad? Why is it we celebrate one man's accomplishments while ignoring the work of other men as we throw them into one holiday. As great as MLK was, he was just a man giving a message. But he was not alone in helping the civil rights movement, nor should he be remembered alone. If you want a day for civil rights, have it on the day the Civil Rights Act was passed.
But, that's just me. - fool13, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2It's not that people don't want a MLK day just that there are other people who are just as if not more deserving for that honor. No one's discrediting MLK but it's difficult to compare him to George Washington who shares a day with other presidents. What about Lincoln who FREED black people, I would certainly say that is more important than giving them the right to vote. MLK's role in civil rights is somewhat glamorized, it's not that glamorizing him is a bad thing but there are other people who have made significant contributions but do not receive the same credit.
- Smurph0404, on 04/05/2008, -17/+10Boo! Republican! Boo! He is a member of a political party that opposes mine! Boo! He is different than me! Boo!
King would be ashamed.- queotic, on 04/05/2008, -2/+5Your comment, while funny, is a bit ridiculous. They're not booing him because he's from a different political party (btw, how do you know that everyone there was a Dem?), they were booing because of his hypocrisy. You can't vote against something repeatedly, then try to act like you support it. Don't get me wrong - I don't think he's racist. After all, he DOES have an adopted Bengali daughter. However, it's a bit shameless to try to pander to black people on this day when you didn't support a holiday for one the man who helped bring them equal rights.
- Zap2, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2MLK was about nonviolence, not about sitting back and agree with what everyone says

- meltlight, on 04/05/2008, -10/+13McCain not only voted against the holiday in the 80's, he also voted as recently as 1994 to cut funding for promoting the holiday. That's plenty of reason to dislike him and boo him.

- TinternAbbot, on 04/05/2008, -2/+2If you dislike a politician because he doesn't believe in funding a holiday, no matter what it is, you are a ridiculous person.
- JointVenture, on 04/05/2008, -1/+8Just like RON PAUL voting against rosa parks???
- basye, on 04/05/2008, -4/+14At least he didn't shed pretend tears like Hillary did in her speech. They're all a bunch of fakes.
- Olfster, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2But their fakeness is so blatent. It simply amazes me. Interesting times.
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2The clip from her speech about "where she was when she heard" made me wanna vomit. Talk about fake! Can no one see this but me?
- pbrown4086, on 04/05/2008, -3/+9All of the posters here should watch the short movie Zeitgeist before ever fighting among each other about race again. If you have ANY intelligence, you will be convinced that ALL of us, black, white, Mexican, German, Canadian, Japanese, etc., etc. are grouped together as "nothings" by those in power behind the throne. You don't have to have a college degree or an advanced degree, which I have so I can say this, to understnad that we are all suckers. If we don't study what is going on, we will continue just like we have for the last 150 years and will have someone else taking advantage of us ALL and using race debates and so on to distract us.
- ucdbunny, on 04/05/2008, -2/+4anybody got a youtube link, both firefox and IE crash when opening that page
- dan222555, on 04/05/2008, -7/+8Man the diggers really eat up huffingtonpost propaganda. The writer conveniently didn't mention that a lot of those people were very clearly heard yelling "it's ok!" "we forgive you!" and "we all make mistakes!".
- damndj, on 04/05/2008, -5/+5I'm a liberal but refuse to read or listen to anything coming from Huffington Post. Fox News wish they could be as biased.
- dan222555, on 04/05/2008, -4/+4I'm glad you recognize it, that's rare on Digg.
- Olfster, on 04/05/2008, -1/+6They could have been yelling "Go John, we understand why you can't understand the plight of the black people, at least you understand now!" , and I still would have been mystified by his reasoning and comments for not voting for a MLK day. Out of touch is the only phrase that comes to my mind after this. He should have just kept quite. This will be an interesting summer.
- damndj, on 04/05/2008, -5/+5I'm a liberal but refuse to read or listen to anything coming from Huffington Post. Fox News wish they could be as biased.

- JointVenture, on 04/05/2008, -11/+11He wasn't booed, in fact he received a warm reception, I watched the whole thing. Not only that on NBC they even said he received a warm reception.
There were some cat calls when he first said he didn't vote for it (JUST LIKE RON PAUL AND ROSA PARKS) but then he said it was a mistake, apologized for it and everyone was saying RIGHT ON, EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES.
Nice try Hattington post.- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -1/+8You watched the whole thing? I've seen it run a dozen times on CNN this afternoon and once on Olbermann tonight. The dude was booed. Booed, booed, booed.
Are all Republicans deaf as well as dumb?
And Who f**king cares anyway? It's not like this is a huge conspiracy to promote a National Boooo John McCain Day.
I read a blog post yesterday about some dude smelling cig. smoke on Barack and then going on about how that constitutes a lie, and how betrayed he feels. It's a non issue. Like this.
I admired the lady "yelling everyone makes mistakes" It was the King thing to do. Mellow out man.- Zap2, on 04/05/2008, -1/+2it was the "king this to do?
MLK wasn't "the sit back and take it" person, he was the "stand and a push for change, through peace"
there is huge difference between being a walk over and an activist for change, through peace- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -1/+1So he didn't believe in accepting apologies and forgiveness? I must have the wrong Martin Luther King. Forgive me.
- diggadigga, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2Are you ***** deaf? You look like a moron to anyone who seen the vid:

- Zap2, on 04/05/2008, -1/+2it was the "king this to do?
- boombye, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2Only one person said that.
The rest can be heard jeering angrily, I heard some pissed off people earlier before turning my head towards the television screen, I didn't know McCain was talking because I was lost in my own little world reading stuff online...As soon as I heard angry jeering, and looked to my tv to see what was going on, it showed McCain, and then it starting playing the next clip of what Hillary had to say today, so I missed the report and went online to find out why people were pissed at McCain.
You hear one guy say "It's okay man we all make mistakes" and you act is if the multitude of angry voices aren't there.
He realizes his mistake when he's running for President? But not before that? Seriously.... I remember 1994 too, does he care to explain that.
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -1/+8You watched the whole thing? I've seen it run a dozen times on CNN this afternoon and once on Olbermann tonight. The dude was booed. Booed, booed, booed.
- patpl22391, on 04/05/2008, -6/+4I wonder what Democrat Senator 'KKK' Byrd thinks? All these government employee's want MLK to be a holiday so they can get a day off of work. I wish Sen. McCain would have stood strong and refused to support race-baiting.
- Olfster, on 04/05/2008, -0/+6Byrd, another one that has been around way past his time!
- boombye, on 04/05/2008, -3/+2Grow up. You sound like a little kid when making arguments like that.
Like some "But he can do it, why can't I?" type of stuff - userperson, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2I think they should get the day off as long as they decide not to come back.
- alphonseragusa, on 04/05/2008, -2/+4I would have had more respect for McInsane if he stuck to his guns and said "yea, I oppose federal spending to promote antiquated holidays and would rather YOU KEEP YOUR MONEY".
But we all know he sure as hell doesn't believe that. - mattmollysdad, on 04/05/2008, -1/+3who cares. no one is going to vote for John... and as Ann says, "Hillary is more conservative than McCain"
- Sogui, on 04/05/2008, -2/+4Polls say otherwise, but Digg is averse to polls unless it says something they already believe in.
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -3/+2They both suck ass. Oh, and that Ron Paul guy too.
- Raiderkid6, on 04/05/2008, -1/+1lol, but yet he is somehow winning in the polls when faced against democratic opposition....
hmmm...- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Um, the vote is split between two democratic candidates for now. Yup. Didn't need a poll to figure that out.
- CountryGuy, on 04/05/2008, -0/+6I wouldn't say no one is going to vote for him - Obabma's position on illegal immigration amnesty may cause more problems than you think.
- JohnnyKdiggs, on 04/05/2008, -4/+6What fun this will be, watching the Republican nominee knock himself out of the race before a Democratic nominee is even been selected.
- Olfster, on 04/05/2008, -2/+2I know this is ridiculous!
- 4Li3nwAr3, on 04/05/2008, -6/+4well like osama *cough* i mean Obama* said "Race" shouldnt matter...oh right we dont like him either
erm...Hillary, oh no no she killed 13 people and covered the story up about it,
Damn, well maybe if we vote this old fart in maybe he'll have a heart attack and Mike Huckabee could take office, not that id want Mccain to die, no not possibly ,- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1I give this 6 1/2 booos on my McCain Boo Scale.

- daxsymbiont, on 04/05/2008, -8/+5mccain is so un-presidential, it's embarassing; even if you don't want to support him.
- ArachnidDude, on 04/05/2008, -2/+0it all depends on his choice for VP
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -2/+2Dude could have Jesus Christ himself as VP. Wouldn't matter. Hell, McCain probably wouldn't recognize him anyway.
- sublingo, on 04/05/2008, -2/+0Republicans would never allow that socialist messiah guy a VP slot.
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -2/+2Dude could have Jesus Christ himself as VP. Wouldn't matter. Hell, McCain probably wouldn't recognize him anyway.
- userperson, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Yeah, it doesn't matter how much money they piss away, how many people they kill, how many rights they take away, as long as they can make a good speech. I was being facetious, however I think history agrees with that point of view.
- ArachnidDude, on 04/05/2008, -2/+0it all depends on his choice for VP
- JasonCox, on 04/05/2008, -8/+4Listen, I want to see Obama win as much as the next guy, but McCain isnt a bad guy. He's pretty damned liberal and you all should be happy that he got the Republican nod over Guiliani or Romney.
- pintomp3, on 04/05/2008, -1/+3yeah, he's so liberal he not only supports the iraq war, he wants to start a war with iran.
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -2/+2He likes liberally distributing dead bodies around the globe. Yay McInsane!
- pintomp3, on 04/05/2008, -1/+3yeah, he's so liberal he not only supports the iraq war, he wants to start a war with iran.
- mzx639, on 04/05/2008, -6/+4Yeah? So what? Boring and Buried.

- ralph12c41, on 04/05/2008, -5/+2Time to crack up the "Huff hate" machine
- Olfster, on 04/05/2008, -3/+2Why, why, Whhhhyyyy!! Every time I look there is another reason to not vote for him. I wanted to have an open mind for the general election. If it is a McCain vs Clinton scenario, we are all but doomed. People this is getting ridiculous. We need leadership that is for the people black, white, brown or yellow. He admits he did not vote for MLK day. What?? Is it because he did not care to undestand until it mattered to him?
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Fear not little Padawan. The force is strong with Obama.
- GrodyChamp, on 04/05/2008, -5/+4They didn't boo. Buried for BS propaganda. He didn't vote against having MLK day, just spending tax money to promote it. Do we promote columbus day? WTF.
- boombye, on 04/05/2008, -1/+2They don't sound happy either.
The 1987 and the often never mentioned 1994 scenarios are the ones where he voted not to fund it, but he was against the actual MLK Holday Act of 1983. - motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Booed. Sorry. It was a tiny little smattering of baby boos but boos nonetheless.
And Columbus was a slave trader. Not a good comparison.
- boombye, on 04/05/2008, -1/+2They don't sound happy either.
- PocketWatch, on 04/05/2008, -2/+4Frankly, I'd rather not have a holiday for MLK day. Instead of celebrating the life of such a brilliant man by drinking beer at the beach, I think children should be in school - a day specifically dedicated to teaching about him.
- mattletron, on 04/05/2008, -1/+6I disagree with John McCain on just about everything. I certainly will not be voting for him. But I must say. There are very few rich white men who would stand in front of a crowd of African Americans and admit that they had made a racist mistake. I think that took some courage.
- dagamer34, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Few American politicians would be bold enough to use this day to court African-Americans as some type of quasi-political stump speech.
- pintomp3, on 04/05/2008, -1/+3or stupidity. "i don't support the guy who helped get you the vote, but please vote for me anyway".
- tna11595, on 04/06/2008, -0/+0^^^ well said pintomp3

- catachip, on 04/05/2008, -2/+4Yeah, just like the class you've shown you ***** racist.
- Sogui, on 04/05/2008, -3/+3I get a kick out of Digg and Huffington/Firedog/CrooksandLiars/etc... when they throw mud at McCain for stuff like this, trying to create controversy from nothing. Here's a Republican who isn't ignoring the black vote for once, especially interesting since he's going against Obama where he's got a snowballs chance of winning anything in that demographic.
One of the reasons I do like McCain is that he is often humble, he comes to Memphis and tells a crowd of blacks that he voted against MLK day? You're really going to attack him for being that honest?- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1True. It's unkind to attack evil, senile, old men that want to "oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies".
(Last segment credited to Iron Maiden.) - lhbaker, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2Really? That seemed honest to you? McCain voted against the holiday more than once. He lied during an apology. How ***** up is that?
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1True. It's unkind to attack evil, senile, old men that want to "oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies".
- wexmajor, on 04/05/2008, -5/+5Why the ***** is the government funding the promotion of a holiday in the first place? Don't we have better things to spend money on? I'd vote against that ***** too.
- catachip, on 04/05/2008, -2/+2You mean like Independence Day? Bah to the founding of our country. Humbug, I say!
- pintomp3, on 04/05/2008, -1/+2"Don't we have better things to spend money on?" yes, like a 100 years of occupation in iraq.
- lhbaker, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1So you won't be in favor of Bush day, then?
- pintomp3, on 04/05/2008, -1/+6reagan was also against the holiday. he also supported aparthied south africa. i guess mccain really wants to be a reagan republican.
- lhbaker, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1I'm definitely not voting for Reagan again.
- CountryGuy, on 04/05/2008, -1/+2I want to declare a mulligan on this whole election, and get a fresh set of characters.
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -1/+4As the madmen play on words and cut their meat and lick the gravy, we oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies.
~Iron Maiden - tna11595, on 04/05/2008, -1/+1How is he being honest when he lies to the audience about not knowing the history of Dr. King? Anyone, and I mean anyone, who lived as an adult during that time knew about Dr. King. Being honest would've meant that McCain told everyone that he was a bigot and didn't want to celebrate a Black American while celebrating the past presidents who were terrorists, criminals, and slave owners.
It's quite sad that this White democratic country blessed by "God" voted to create a national holiday that happily celebrates a terrorist/rapist/mass murderer/slave trader every year. If you don't know which holiday I'm referring to, then that's even more pathetic. Sorry for being so blunt but it's really tragic that some people don't see what MLK Day truly means. And it's called MLK Day and not Civil Rights Day because MLK was the most prominent and effective figure regarding civil rights.
If the Italians unjustly can have one, why not Blacks?
Ralph Nader for President!- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1I'll take $100.00 for slave traders!
Who was: Christopher Columbus.
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1I'll take $100.00 for slave traders!
- nixfu, on 04/05/2008, -0/+5Always more to the story than we get here on Digg from left wing trash media sites like hufferpost:
"CNN: "From The Audience There Were People Yelling, 'We Forgive You, We Forgive You." "And an interesting moment that took place moments ago, you witnessed it here on CNN. He was explaining that he didn't support the King holiday initially. And then he said he supports it now, he made a mistake, 'a little late in doing the right thing.' And then from the audience there were people who were yelling, 'We forgive you, we forgive you.' And that great acknowledgement that he gave to them as well.""
(CNN Live, 4/4/08)- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Wow! I'm all choked up! Is there a little love and forgiveness left for Rev. Wright too? I mean that's what you would be saying. Gee, I'm sooo glad that works for McCain! That's just awesome! Can't we just all get along?
Or is that forgiveness only reserved for white Republicans who insult entire races?- jimmyb3, on 04/05/2008, -1/+1The difference is that Wright is truly a racist, and is not asking for forgiveness. He revels in his divisive race mongering. Not making MLK day a holiday does not a racist make. Reverend "Kill Whitie" Wright is a piece of crap who deserves the backlash he has been receiving. Suck on that.
- qprice78, on 04/06/2008, -0/+0yeah there were SOME people yelling "I forgive you," but obviously we all heard that the MAJORITY was booing. Oh yea, I did hear one guy clearly say "We all make mistakes," but that's about it. There is no more to this story. McCain screwed up, period, and then he tried to cover it up with a dumb lie. He didn't know about King because of his service over seas? Seriously?
- motivatedmama, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Wow! I'm all choked up! Is there a little love and forgiveness left for Rev. Wright too? I mean that's what you would be saying. Gee, I'm sooo glad that works for McCain! That's just awesome! Can't we just all get along?
- Kaboom108, on 04/05/2008, -0/+0If he were alive, I'm sure Dr. King would have acted with a lot more class then the people booing during his speech. Even if it did seem tainted by politics, I'm sure Dr. King would have accepted his apology, he was a man that looked to see the best in people.
- StanleyKoolPrik, on 04/05/2008, -2/+1He's a witch -- no, eh, I mean a communist...no, no, I mean a racist. Yeah, he's a racist! Lets get him!
- HumanRecall, on 04/05/2008, -1/+3@The image of a black man holding an umbrella over McCain's head while he gave the speech didn't exactly complement the moment.
Nuff said !- Armakillo, on 04/05/2008, -1/+0McCain probably didn't even think about that--the guy holding the umbrella was just a guy paid to hold an umbrella, why do we have to racialize it?
- tna11595, on 04/05/2008, -0/+0Because this (white) country is still extremely prejudiced against Blacks; especially the media...
But I think the umbrella guy was just ironic. that's all...
