Limbaugh Busted: Uses 10th Grader’s Essay To Attack Obama
crooksandliars.com — It’s no secret that the right STILL hasn ’t figured out how to effectively use the internets, so it comes as no surprise that the Grand Poobah of right wing radio douche bags, Rush Limbaugh, has made a complete fool of himself by using a 12 year old essay by a 10th grader to attack Democratic presidential candidate, Senator Barack Obama.
- 1989 diggs

- livegreenordie, on 05/18/2008, -38/+20 We need our own radio show so we can hire Olberman to rip Rush daily!
- jmpeagle, on 05/18/2008, -12/+8stations such as Air America don't get enough viewers. Talk radio is as firmly right wing as the internet is left wing
- exomni, on 05/18/2008, -6/+7That depends on your definition of left and right wing. If you mean limited government, libertarianism, free-market economics and such, then yes, the internet is to the left.
By and large "the internet" (at least Digg and other such popular sites) have libertarian leanings, for fairly obvious reasons.
But if you're lumping together libertarianism with socialism and forms of totalitarianism on the left, then your left/right distinction has become entirely useless.
And if you count sites like Drudge Report, then you've got yourself some extraordinarily right-wing sites on your hands.- jmpeagle, on 05/18/2008, -3/+4the internet is not biased toward libertarianism at all....just look at the support for net neutrality
- Terr01, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1@jmpeagle: I think that has more to do with how it's not a sexy subject and a lot of people can't be bothered to understand it if it's not some trite sound-byte. You start talking about "common carrier status" and "content discrimination" and they fall asleep. Or else they confuse whether it means a neutral government or a neutral corporation.
- robdiggity, on 05/18/2008, -3/+16Stations such as Air America don't get any viewers. They get listeners.
- jcm267, on 05/18/2008, -6/+7Not many of them.
- Terr01, on 05/18/2008, -4/+7The way I hear it, they get enough viewers, but not enough *advertisers*. Doesn't matter how popular it is if nobody thinks they can make a buck paying for it.
- masterm1nd, on 05/18/2008, -5/+2And why do you think they don't get enough advertisers?
- Terr01, on 05/18/2008, -3/+9Because some f***wits keep up a big echo chamber repeating that liberal talk radio doesn't get enough listeners?
- PhilLesh69, on 05/18/2008, -1/+8Radio has had a very hard time getting viewers.
It seems that they are crippled by the fact that Radio is a largely auditory medium, and lacks a fundamental visual aspect. It seems that viewers tend to gravitate towards more visual mediums, like Television.
As it turns out, Radio tends to attract more listeners than viewers.
- exomni, on 05/18/2008, -6/+7That depends on your definition of left and right wing. If you mean limited government, libertarianism, free-market economics and such, then yes, the internet is to the left.
- exomni, on 05/18/2008, -6/+44How about no. Just ignore Rush, like every sane, rational person has been doing for the last fifty-seven years.
- jbenson2, on 05/18/2008, -27/+8At first I thought you were referring to the 57 states the geographically challenged O-man visited.
I assume from your comment there are 20 million insane, irrational people who buy enough advertised products to keep the EIB network running on 600 radio stations across America.
It must be a right-wing conspiracy that prevents companies from advertising on Air America Radio.- goomba323, on 05/18/2008, -1/+12@jbenson
Is it that hard to believe that there are 20 million insane, irrational people in America?? - jbenson2, on 05/18/2008, -8/+2When you examine the swooning O-man supporters, there actually might be more than 20 million.
- Intenseboredom, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1i say don't mind benson too much. if you questions another's set of core beliefs, they tend to get defensive. most people would rather get defensive than openly consider the ideas of others before dismissing them.
- exomni, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Yeah. Check out jbenson2's comment history. He has tried to argue Obama is a muslim. Now where's that digg block feature...

- eexlebots, on 05/18/2008, -2/+6Are you Rush Limbaugh?
- ravingtruth, on 05/18/2008, -19/+0I wonder if we should put some limits on free speech, especially political speech. Free speech should only be free if it is true and correct. Any other kind of speech by definition should not free and must be shut down by any means necessary. Rush qualifies for this hands down.
- dysfunction, on 05/18/2008, -2/+11That's a really, really frightening sentiment. If you really believe that, you're no better than he is.
- lintmonkey, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1Well, maybe a little better...
- letitbleed62, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1And who makes this distinction? I agree with dysfunction very frightening indeed.
- ravingtruth, on 05/19/2008, -0/+0Well...the folks here at Digg seem to be objective and not driven by agendas. Since these issues are basically self evident, the FCC could submit a question to Digg and the Digg community could decide which speech should be aloud or not by consensus.
For example it seems that most everyone here hates Rush because of his ideas. It is therefore self evident that Rush should be taken off the air along with anyone else who promotes the same ideas.

- cg4et, on 05/18/2008, -32/+215In fairness to Limbaugh, he is really used to operating on a 5th grade level, so a 10th grade essay is heady stuff indeed.
- PhilLesh69, on 05/18/2008, -4/+24And his listeners have all barely graduated from High School, so a freshman essay probably does sound like Ivy League dissertations to them.
Not to mention, when it is "about the children", these dolts all get soft-hearted and think that they have to fall in line with whatever "the children" think.
Because they are all children, intellectually.- Herolint, on 05/18/2008, -8/+2That's probably the dumbest stereotypical comment I've ever read.
- PhilLesh69, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Wow. I can only assume that it was dumb because it struck a chord with you.
- Herolint, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1On what, exactly, do you base that assumption? I've certainly given you nothing to base any kind of assumption on.
The statement simply was a puerile categorization of hundreds of thousands of people who listen to Rush Limbaugh and thinking in stereotypes is pretty dumb.
I'm quite happy with myself the way I am; by the way. I just like to bring a small bit of common sense to the void.
- LastVisibleDog, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Seems the joke is on you and all the other left wing parrots - this essay is used by many universities including UC Berkley
I think we now know who are children intellectually (hint: it is those that parrot what their left wing handlers feed them without doing any research)....that would be you
BTW: PhilLesh69, did you just say 10 grade is "freshmen" - be careful when you attack other people's intellegence - first make sure you are not making a fool out of yourself intellectually.
nit wit
- Herolint, on 05/18/2008, -8/+2That's probably the dumbest stereotypical comment I've ever read.
- LastVisibleDog, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Funny - a UC Berkley professor uses this same essay as required reading - now don't you lefty loonies feel like morons right now
- PhilLesh69, on 05/18/2008, -4/+24And his listeners have all barely graduated from High School, so a freshman essay probably does sound like Ivy League dissertations to them.
- MindyB, on 05/18/2008, -29/+67This idiot Limbaugh should be the poster child for why education must be among this country's highest priorities. He is such a moron! and those listening to him are bigger morons.
- Herolint, on 05/18/2008, -11/+2Why? Because he doesn't think like you do?
I don't listen to Rush, but I'm happy to let him have his opinion, and I realize that many people share it. Those people are not morons either. A moron, in my opinion, is somebody who lets himself/herself get spoon fed an opinion by a college professor, whose touch with reality is greatly distorted by their tenure, and cannot accept contrary information in a logical way. Instead, they express their views not via a logical explanation of how they acquired those views, but rather must resort to puerile name calling and insults to show their prejudice against those who hold a contrary opinion.
No political body has cornered the market on truth. Almost all political stances are polarized by an underlying agenda and a lust for power. To pretend otherwise is foolish.- SanTe, on 05/18/2008, -1/+5Ah yes, the mythical liberal elitist college professor. Why hold back, Herolint? Name names.
I don't buy it. Every time I see this tired B.S. rolled out it *never* is about a specific college professor. It's just used to deflect attention from whatever conservative windbag is talking out of his ass at the moment. The only name I ever hear is Noam Chomsky but he doesn't qualify according to your description since he a) does ***** tons of research and knows what he's talking about, b) has a firmer grasp of login than most people on the planet, and c) doesn't resort to name calling. Any insults originating from Chomsky are always well deserved in my opinion, and backed up by facts.
Name names, or can the lame liberal college professor argument already. It was hilarious for a while but now it's just really ***** old.
"A moron, in my opinion, is somebody who lets himself/herself get spoon fed an opinion by a college professor, whose touch with reality is greatly distorted by their tenure, and cannot accept contrary information in a logical way."
Why? Because he doesn't think like you do?- SanTe, on 05/18/2008, -1/+2*logic. The wonderful new editing system decided not to let me edit even though the timer still had several minutes on it.
- Herolint, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1"Why? Because he doesn't think like you do?"
No, because he doesn't think for himself, but resorts to knee-jerk responses, such as yours.
"Name names, or can the lame liberal college professor argument already. It was hilarious for a while but now it's just really ***** old."
I'll name names and colleges if you will publicly apologize for your narrow-minded attitude and start thinking for yourself.
- foofighter828, on 05/18/2008, -1/+2Have you been to college?
- Herolint, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Yup. Also worked in the world for about 25 years. Have you?
- SanTe, on 05/18/2008, -1/+5Ah yes, the mythical liberal elitist college professor. Why hold back, Herolint? Name names.
- newellscott, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Interesting, this is just about what he said when, in the same segment, it was brought up by a listener that one (that is right, he said he was looking at several) of the sources was a young person. He said that the fact one of the Google sources was a high schooler just reinforces his feeling that education in this country is in the tank.
Mindy, you are half informed since you obviously did not hear what he said. You are just a Digg minion, following the Digg conventional wisdom which, in most cases, is uninformed.
- Herolint, on 05/18/2008, -11/+2Why? Because he doesn't think like you do?
- Ganja420, on 05/18/2008, -27/+12u can sue for plagarism... the student should receive the total ad revenue of that day's show.
Rush should publicly apologize and have his reputation tarnished- Terr01, on 05/18/2008, -1/+9Pfft, no. Rush is a blowhard, but I'm pretty sure that falls under fair use.
- DivisibleByZero, on 05/18/2008, -0/+7It's not plagiarism if you cite the source.
- donsmini92102, on 05/18/2008, -21/+51Is that really an old picture of the windbag? Check out the lapel pin.. who's the traitor now? He must have been trying to avoid service or impress women with his softer side. What a douche.
- hikaruzero, on 05/18/2008, -1/+13what are you, some kinda commie? is peace suddenly un-American?
lol just kidding mate; satire, that's all. - danfive555, on 05/18/2008, -1/+3I seriously doubt he ever impressed a woman. :)
- hikaruzero, on 05/18/2008, -1/+13what are you, some kinda commie? is peace suddenly un-American?
- bluesman3535, on 05/18/2008, -22/+24Limbaugh has an agenda to keep people listening to his failing viewpoints. Tough for him these days. $ If dandelions were the number one interest of Americans in 2008 he would be there on air to exploit it. Republican lock-stepping Dandelions 24-7, grown on the lawn of Oliver North where nobody can recall planting them even in front of Congress. The Liberal dandelions are naturally evil due to their independent nature. His show is almost all his opinion, likes and dislikes with a few facts and half truths thrown in on occasion. I do enjoy the song parodies on his show, but after they are over the show sinks back to its normal intellectual level, opinions without facts.
- jbenson2, on 05/18/2008, -23/+5Operation Chaos has been a marketing bonanza for Rush. Virtually ever day, the media has stories covering the Limbaugh effect.
You might not like him, but you cannot argue with his success.
Especially when compared to Air America Radio giant Stuarty Smalley.
Have you seen his latest book "Al Franken Is A Big Fat Tax Cheat"
- jbenson2, on 05/18/2008, -23/+5Operation Chaos has been a marketing bonanza for Rush. Virtually ever day, the media has stories covering the Limbaugh effect.
- jmpeagle, on 05/18/2008, -18/+41oh...limbaugh...you are a business genius because you essentially get your enemies to promote your show for free. There's been a story about this assclown every day on digg for at least the past 2 weeks and he's laughing all the way to the bank.
- hartley, on 05/18/2008, -4/+9As a regular listener to the show, I can say this is 100% correct.
Despite what Rush says, he is not a conservative, he's a capitalist. - SoulDrift404, on 05/18/2008, -0/+9I really can't imagine many people here on Digg that want to hear his crap, that don't already know where to listen to him. THerefore I doubt he's picking up much benefit from the "advertising."
- Herolint, on 05/18/2008, -7/+1I don't listen to his show but maybe once every couple of years. However, I disagree politically with a large number of Digg patrons so I find stories about Rush amusing due to the reactions of the Digg masses.
- jmpeagle, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1except these stories get blasted all over the media not just digg
- hartley, on 05/18/2008, -4/+9As a regular listener to the show, I can say this is 100% correct.
- jbenson2, on 05/18/2008, -62/+13Just proves how lame the O-man's positions are.

- nylrym, on 05/18/2008, -5/+6You fundamentally misunderstood the issue. Limbaugh found the article, and pretended that it came from the same camp as Obama...
It was a typical Straw Man argument.

I've read several articles that discuss it to some extent and all of them portray him as a lonely couch potato with three failed marriages who in recent years has resorted to dating trashy, fugly trophy girlfriends who, from the pictures I've seen, are totally *****.
How is it that this rich ***** has such a hard time pulling down quality poon? I mean sure, he's fat, he's addicted to hillbilly heroin, he's deaf, and he has an obnoxious personality, but surely he brings in enough cash to compensate for all that.

What the ***** is Rush's excuse for being such a lousy failure at life? I'm sorry, but being a stoned fatass is not an excuse for someone who's probably worth tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars.
Why can't the guy who singlehandedly brought us excellence in broadcasting achieve excellence in broads?- Nossie, on 05/18/2008, -7/+5So you vote for the person who has the most ***** partner?
Let me guess then, you're voting hilary ?- petrodollar, on 05/18/2008, -2/+3Where did you get the retarded impression that this has anything to do with how I vote?
I'm merely pointing out Rush's loserish ways. You seem awfully quick to defend the man. Could that be because, like Rush, people find you so repulsive that not even hundreds of millions of dollars could convince a self respecting woman to be seen in public with you?- Nossie, on 05/18/2008, -5/+2I wouldnt know... I must however apologize, I'm going to have to guess that you're not old enough to date nevermind vote. Do you honestly think everything revolves around how much money you have and which model of the week you're screwing?

Ad hominem'd! - petrodollar, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2"Ad hominem'd!"
I don't think you understand what ad hominem means. I'm not using my personal criticism of Rush to impugn his political views, therefore there is nothing ad hominem-ish about my observation that he is a social disaster.
I'm merely pointing out that he very obviously can't maintain a relationship with a self-respecting woman. His three wives all ditched him, which lends credence to accounts that portray him as a lazy fat slob. He can still be right about political issues in spite of his slovenliness.
And of course guys with no money can land decent looking women. That just makes it all the more mystifying that Rush can't pull it off. I find it ironic that Nossie feels compelled to brag about his supposedly attractive girlfriend but neglects to explain why Limbaugh can only hook up with trashy floozies.
It really is pathetic that a guy who can commandeer 20+ million listeners can't get a respectable piece of ass. I can't help but laugh at Rush's pathetic inability to get a life.

"When are the people in charge going to realize that we, the youth, the ones who are in high school and college or who, like me, have just graduated, do not want to be read the news by another cheesy blonde anchor who looks like the girl who does keg stands and dances on coffee tables at frat parties? Respectable journalists don't wear hot pink and they don't die their hair blonde if they are Korean like Mia Lee, one of the anchors at KCAL. The women shouldn't have fake ***** that are pushed up to their neck and the men shouldn't be orange. Do you respect the guy in your psych class that has frosted tips and highlights? No. Then why would you feel differently toward the guy reading the news?"
The last couple sentances are funny considering Olbermans skin and hair.- fearofsociety, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1She is not hot.
- petrodollar, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2It's very obvious that you're trying to shift the discussion away from Rush's total inability to maintain stable, loving relationships, JointVenture. I fail to see how some other person's relationship has any bearing on this fat loser's inability to convince women to share any meaningful existence with him.
Admit it, JointVenture, Limbaugh can only manage superficial relationships with women who look like circus freaks. Maybe it's because Rush takes his work home with him and allows it to intrude into his personal relationships. I don't know. I just know that he leads an enormously pathetic existence and that I wouldn't wish his life on my worst enemy.
Have you seen There Will Be Blood? I imagine Rush in twenty years or so living much like Daniel Plainview, surrounded by opulence but wholly devoid of companionship of any sort.
- sideffects, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1I don't understand why you people tell everyone to have an open mind, and then you bash someone or several people who have a different opinion than you.
- petrodollar, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1What makes you think Rush's opinions are different from my own? I haven't said a word about his political opinions. I've merely pointed out that he is a failure at life.
- twomeyw23334, on 05/19/2008, -1/+0So you base success / failure at life on "pulling down quality poon."
That's probably not the best metric of a quality life, and who gives a crap anyways? What does it say about a person who judges others by the quality of poon that they hit? - petrodollar, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1"So you base success / failure at life on "pulling down quality poon."
No, it's merely an indicator of one's general loserishness. People have been saying for a long time that Rush has no friends, that he spends his spare time parked in front of the TV eating junk food. That characterization is merely CONFIRMED by his inability to maintain a stable relationship with a self-respecting woman. In other words, the fact that THREE of wives have ditched him suggests that he's a closeted loner who can't relate to people IRL.
"and who gives a crap anyways?"
Well you obviously do. Otherwise you wouldn't bother responding to my posts.
You gotta love how all the dittoheads come out of the woodwork as soon as someone says something less than flattering about their god. Nevermind that I've said nothing about Rush's politics. Nevermind that I have not made ONE single criticism of his views. All I did was point out the facts - that numerous people who know him describe him as a loser, and that he is a dismal failure with women - and you people start pissing your pants. Pathetic. - twomeyw23334, on 05/19/2008, -1/+0If you had commented about his views that would be one thing, but what is pathetic is that you instead bash the quality of poon the man hits.
- petrodollar, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1No, what's pathetic is that you losers fall in line and defend the man when it's obvious that he's the social equivalent of Hurricane Katrina.
What I'm doing is no different from when people rightly derided Bill Clinton for banging ugly skanks and fatties. I hold public figures to a higher standard, and I expect them to behave honorably and not look and act like total rejects.
I have to wonder why you have such low standards, twomeyw23334. I wonder why you're so quick to run to the defense of a guy whose own wives abandoned him.
Rush's most recent wife, Marta Fitzgerald, was an aerobics instructor. Should we be at all suprised that a woman who devoted her career to physical fitness became disgusted with this guy? http://images.salon.com/news/sports/col/kaufman/20 ...
Look at Rush trying to molest a woman in front of an entire audience at the Heritage Foundation. She doesn't look too excited, does she?

Here's Rush at the top of his game: http://www.shout.net/~bigred/Limbaugh.jpg - twomeyw23334, on 05/19/2008, -1/+0"What I'm doing is no different from when people rightly derided Bill Clinton for banging ugly skanks and fatties"
Who cares if Clinton banged ugly skanks and fatties, he cheated on his wife. If he had banged some hot ass would that have been cool?
If you are attacking Rush's personal morality when it comes to relationships, I'd have to agree, but it sounds to me you attacking the man purely on the hotness of the women he is with. The first says something about his character, the second doesn't, at least not in a negative way.
"I have to wonder why you have such low standards"
I'm still on my first wife who is still up their on my scale, so I guess by your definition I have a pretty successful life. - petrodollar, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1"it sounds to me you attacking the man purely on the hotness of the women he is with"
No. I'm using the quality of the women he's with as one of several measures of his overall level of failure at life. The fact that he is such a failure with women merely corroborates what others have said, which is that he is unable to form relationships with real people in real life.
That is what I'm ultimately criticizing him for: being a failure of a human being. Man is fundamentally a social animal. A man who is unable function socially, despite having the means to do so, is not a real man.
" I guess by your definition I have a pretty successful life."
That might be true were it not for the fact that you're on the internet struggling to defend Rush Limbaugh against charges that he's a big time loser, despite the overwhelming evidence that he is. - twomeyw23334, on 05/19/2008, -1/+0Not defending Rush, attacking the idea that the physical hotness of chicks you hook up with determines success / failure in life.
I'd agree Rush is a social failure. Obviously, he is a financial success. I'd ultimately argue his overall success / failure in life would be determined by the overall good / bad he has accomplished. If someone were to cure cancer, for example, by sacrificing a social life for their entire existence, I would argue that they had a successful life. - petrodollar, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1"attacking the idea that the physical hotness of chicks you hook up with determines success / failure in life."
Like I said, it's one of many measures. Conventional wisdom holds that a man who cannot keep his marriage together can at least make up for that failure by dating hot, young women. This is especially the case when the individual in question has hundred of millions of dollars to blow and can hire the most expensive escorts on the face of the planet.
But Rush defies the logic of this wisdom by a) ***** up his marriages and b) not managing to compensate for his failures by landing hot girlfriends, despite his $millions. This makes him an absolute failure by almost any measure.
"I'd ultimately argue his overall success / failure in life would be determined by the overall good / bad he has accomplished. If someone were to cure cancer, for example, by sacrificing a social life for their entire existence, I would argue that they had a successful life."
Very well. But your opinion is cold comfort to our would-be cancer cure discoverer, who is forced to live a life of isolation and agony. This is why, as I say above, I would not with Rush Limbaugh's life on my worst enemy. Because no level of professional accomplishment can compensate for the torment of living one's life in social isolation, parked in front of the TV, bowl of cheetohs in one hand and limp penis in the other, wondering how it is that that in spite of all your fame and success you wound up in the bottom decile of the happiness scale. - twomeyw23334, on 05/19/2008, -1/+0You should write a country song about that.

- GregoryHarbin, on 05/18/2008, -9/+16Just to play Devil's Advocate, but 10th grade isn't exactly childhood. I wrote some pretty substantive papers in high school. This guy is obviously parroting the leftist views that Rush despises, and he's using those ideas in his paper because that's what he was taught in school. Rush never claims that he's any sort of professor or scholar, just some guy with a paper on the Internet.
- JayD16, on 05/18/2008, -0/+4The thing is, Rush was commenting on the leftward slant of college education. 10th grade is certainly not college.
