Lawrence O'Donnell: Hillary Will Drop Out by June 15
huffingtonpost.com — A senior campaign official and Clinton confidante has told me that there will be a Democratic nominee by June 15. He could not bring himself to say the words "Hillary will drop out by June 15," but that is clearly what he meant. I kept saying, "So, Hillary will drop out by June 15," and he kept saying, "We will have a nominee by June 15."

- lostarchitect, on 05/07/2008, -1/+5so, do trolls really live under bridges?
- ZebZ, on 05/07/2008, -0/+10I'm still banking on May 20th being the magic day.
She'll win Kentucky but that will be irrelevant because Obama will win Oregon to clinch and allow her to go out graciously (or at least with a smiling facade). - Gerz1219, on 05/07/2008, -0/+12No, it's actually a good thing for Hillary to stay in the race through the rest of the nominating contests, provided that she already knows she's lost.
If Hillary dropped out tomorrow, Obama would still probably lose states like Kentucky and West Virginia. That would make him look really bad, and the media would seize on this weakness.
If Hillary stays in the race, Obama can just shrug off any losses as the lingering support of Hillary's die-hard base. Any losses would not necessary reflect on Obama's weakness among working-class whites, at least not in the same way it would if Obama lost several contests after sealing the nomination.
As long as Hillary adopts a submissive, conciliatory tone, and does not hammer Obama too heavily, it's a lot better for Hillary to stay in the race through June.- ComeOutSwingin, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1It would have been better if she dropped out before Pennsylvania. But now that she is still in she has to stay for her wins in KY and WV.
- Nougat, on 05/07/2008, -2/+3Wait, if Hillary dropped out tomorrow, who would Obama lose to?
- Gerz1219, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3To Hillary, whose name would still be on the ballot.
McCain is still losing approximately 20% of the vote to Huckabee and Ron Paul.
- Gerz1219, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3To Hillary, whose name would still be on the ballot.
- sponeil, on 05/07/2008, -0/+0Maybe she's just fighting unemployment (you know, by continuing to pay the people working for her campaign).

- irightthebook, on 05/07/2008, -3/+59Don't be surprised if she's forced to drop out sooner.
- kdawg1012, on 05/07/2008, -2/+23If enough Super Delegates desert her it can happen sooner.
- fluoro, on 05/07/2008, -1/+9I don't think she can be -forced- out sooner. She just needs to think of someone other than herself and the people she owes favors to, and just do the right thing and drop out.
- tonto6, on 05/07/2008, -4/+9thank you, thank you, for being honest!
- Cfahooligan, on 05/07/2008, -17/+11The super delegates not only have to push her out, then need to push her down a flight of stairs.

- The_Wallbanger, on 05/07/2008, -1/+8Huckabee did the same thing. Right now, Clinton is holding out for a miracle.
- fluoro, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3If such a miracle were to present itself, I think she (and the party) would risk alienating a lot of people. At the rate things are going, it seems that's going to happen no matter what unless she tries to conjure up some grace and bow out.
- dagamer34, on 05/07/2008, -2/+3Who the hell is Huckabee?

- B08ama, on 05/07/2008, -5/+3June 15th 2009 is a start for Clinton, but I don't think anyone expected her to do better, anyways.
- littlequeenie, on 05/07/2008, -1/+35I don't believe it, but I'm a skeptic. She was in WV this morning speaking to a crowd and she spoke to the press, insisting on going all the way to the convention. They are planning on the Rules Committee to give her the FL and MI delegates; she has loaned her campaign $6.4M within the past month - which means now that Bill has loaned the campaign a few million - and she is asking her supporters for more money?
I think it's reprehensible; she can't win unless there is some nasty backroom deal. Yet she acts as if she can win fair and square and is leading these same people who believe in the fallacy of a gas tax holiday that she can win. She is begging them for money under false pretenses.- The_Wallbanger, on 05/07/2008, -1/+9Exactly. Right now Clinton is staying in just to drain her last few die-hard supporters for money to go towards her "loan".
- dgaspard, on 05/07/2008, -0/+7the Clintons are great at back door deals... the night of the convention alot of promises will be made.
- motogoat, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1How can you believe this woman saying she'll go all the way to the convention when she's lied about so much stuff already? Hasn't she convinced you yet that what she says and what she does are two completely separate things?
- Lugano, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1If she managers to convince the rules commitee to allow FL and MI that would screw Obama. Unfortunately, I have no doubt in my mind that she would be able to do so either.
- GratefulGroover, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I actually saw some pretty convincing numbers that she even if she does get them seated obama will still be in the lead, albeit a small one.
- ironicsans, on 05/07/2008, -2/+23Follow up question should have been: "Okay, will we have a nominee by June 14? What about June 13? June 12? 11? Stop me when I get to the earliest date by which we'll have a nominee. June 10? June 9?"
- fluxion, on 05/07/2008, -1/+5the answer would've been "we will have a nominee by june 15th" to all those questions
- Gemfinder, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1May 20th?
- beargrylls, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2Why not today?
- JOHND777, on 05/07/2008, -1/+13I hope somebody will give her a basic math and logic course. She should be thinking about whether New York will even send her back to the Senate much less continuing on with another Bosnian fantasy that she has some remote chance of winning! I hope this is about her 11.4 mil rather than her ego however I remember the Couric interview in which she could not say lose so I doubt it. Sad!
- kanvas, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2I doubt she wants to go back to the Senate anyway. The only reason she wanted that gig was to run for President. The last few months have revealed that for her it was never about public service, but me me me.
- AAK15, on 05/07/2008, -1/+11Awesome. Put the party through more division by already knowing your going to drop out yet continue to campaign. Give it up you've already lost enough money
- PolishLogic, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2Just one more reason why I openly laugh at the Democratic party and it's leadership. That's not a ringing endorsement of the GOP, but one thing is for certain: they never would have allowed this to drag on as it has.
- peticsu, on 05/07/2008, -2/+13I really hope she pulls the negative ads/campaigning soon...no reason to keep opening wounds going into the general.
- ZebZ, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3Actually, her WV ads today didn't mention or refer to Obama at all.
- Plantagenet, on 05/07/2008, -8/+3All this means is that Hillary's detectives have found something really dirty in Obama's background, and she is going to leak it before June 15, 2008
- Wonderama, on 05/07/2008, -1/+9Hillary is committing a pointless murder-suicide.
- Abbeygargoyle, on 05/07/2008, -21/+8CAN WE STOP IT WITH ALL THE HUFFINGTON POST CRAP?!?!?!?!? IF I WANTED TO READ IT, I WOULD SET THAT TO REFRESH INSTEAD OF DIGG!!!!!
I don't care how far this gets buried, it needs to be said.- EvolutionTheory, on 05/07/2008, -4/+10I know crazy how someone else might want to read it huh? Too bad this isnt Abbey's Digg.
- cmuwriter, on 05/07/2008, -4/+13What is with people bitching about people posting *****, if it gets enough diggs to be on the front page, then obviously someone wants to read it. Go write in all caps somewhere else.
- fluoro, on 05/07/2008, -2/+8Did it really have to be said with caps long on, though?
- thepretext, on 05/07/2008, -6/+3Agreed. I used to go on Digg for actual news, now it's nothing but biased crap from the far left 'news' sites- and this coming from an Obama supporter.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 05/07/2008, -2/+5If you're using Digg for news, you're using it for the wrong reasons. Articles take so long to hit the front page that they're usually way out of date by the time they do. If you want news, hit Reuters or something. If you want commentary on news, that's what Digg's good for.
- msk275, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2I've never seen Huffington Post 'Crap' before, unless I'm on digg and see the article title.
So Please, keep posting them so that everyone else can see them.- motogoat, on 05/07/2008, -2/+2Muska? Is that you?
- sircomix, on 05/07/2008, -2/+2Don't like it? Digg it down. Simple.
- motogoat, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3Now you've said it and I disagree so I'm burying you. Why in the ***** would you go into a thread when the ***** URL is clearly listed in the Digg title? Sounds like you just want something to bellyache about, little fella.
- Pillage, on 05/07/2008, -1/+7She wants to go out on a win.
- ZebZ, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3That's why I say May 20th.
She can win Kentucky, but Obama will win Oregon to seal it. It gives him enough time to round up a sufficient number of superdelegates to cross the threshold with a win there. - Wonderama, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2I doubt it. It's all ego-driven, especially at this point. A win would prolong the inevitable.
- Gemfinder, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1On a win? That would be today. It's a statistically-nonexistent margin, but she won Indiana.
- diggdiggerid, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1huh? The win wasn't a poll, statistical significance has nothing to do with it. Her votes were more than Obama's votes.
- ZebZ, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3That's why I say May 20th.
- maluenvy, on 05/07/2008, -7/+4i'm an obama fan, but this is just speculation.
- radiofrequency, on 05/07/2008, -11/+6Wow, the huffington post really has only one agenda.

- fluxion, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2plenty of hillary/mccain loving elsewhere, if that's what you're into
- web20fangirl, on 05/07/2008, -3/+7She should drop out now.
- Gunsotsu, on 05/07/2008, -2/+7It's sad that sometimes you ignore the elephant sitting in the room, regardless of the smell. It's over. Hillary could do the honorable thing and bow out gracefully and throw her support behind Barack as she has claimed she would, but deep down, I don't see either of those things happening.
Statistically she has to win every contest plus the super delegates by a margin of 2 to 1 in order to win the nomination and there simply is no way of that happening. She'll continue to fight on, and Barack will still stoically champaign and win the hearts and minds of the citizens of the United States.
And when the announcement comes that Barack Obama is the Deomcratic candidate for POTUS, she'll throw her support and efforts to McCain. The only way I don't see this happening is if Barack where to make Hillary the VP nominee. But the problem therein is that in my wife's lifetime, there has never been a Bush or a Clinton that occupied offices in the White House. And that ultimately would be a mistake.
This could be the darkest time of this entire process. I only hope there is a silver lining.- ZebZ, on 05/07/2008, -0/+4No way in hell she's the VP. She's playing from a position of weakness and won't be able to extort Obama into agreeing to it. Plus, his whole message is change... not continuing the status quo.
- Dangered, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3your wife sounds hot

- Locnar, on 05/07/2008, -1/+10She's just buying time to see if there is some way of resurrecting the FLA and Mich votes... My guess is when that fight is over she'll quit...
OBAMA 08! - EvolutionTheory, on 05/07/2008, -3/+26What sucks is that in 5 years we're going to have to deal with her vs barack AGAIN.
- Zipko, on 05/07/2008, -1/+18But if Barack does what everyone thinks he can over the next 4 years then it won't matter. What kind of platform can she stand on if she can't use "He's not experienced enough to be president" against a successful incumbent president. If Barack's as good as he appears then he'll be a lock for an 8 year term.
- Hetman, on 05/07/2008, -1/+8Barak is only going to be president not kind. He cannot do all he promises. That is not how the presidency works. "It seems like that is how it works now, but that is not how it is supposed to work." He will have to deal with lobbyist, the senate, and congress just like every other president. And will not be able to accomplish what he says he will. I am still voting for Barack and I did int he primaires but that is just not the type of power the president has.
- Zipko, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3Your comment about the power the president has is funny considering what GWB has done with the position lately, although he's using it more to stonewall other people's efforts than enact his own. I can't see Obama abusing the new rules Bush has put into place though the way the current administration is. We've got King Bush now, but we won't see that kind of abuse from Obama even if he legally can take advantage of the powers Bush has given the position.
I think voters in 2012 will be realistic about what gets accomplished. We're not expecting Obama to end world hunger or anything huge like that, but when you're following 8 years of Bush it's not going to be hard to impress people. Along with his general intelligence and professionalism throughout this campaign, the biggest policy reason I'm supporting Obama is his foreign relations agenda. This is an area that the president has a much greater influence in than any other branch. I think we will see some positive changes in this area.
The November election is a long way off, let alone 2012, so it's not like the incumbent matchup as I'm envisioning it is even close to happening, but if it does Clinton won't stand a chance, and I don't think any other candidate would keep Obama from a second term baring him making some disastrous policy decisions, in which case he would deserve to be voted out.

- Hetman, on 05/07/2008, -7/+2You know what I love Rawstory and Huffington post. They are so unbiased. I mean they do not take sides at all. They really do have a lot of journalistic integrity there, If Obama does not win election at least all of them will still be able to get a job at fox news. Because they have the exact skills that fox news looks for when they are hiring journalists.
- rodgerse, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2Yeah, with huffpo you sure will find alot of pro-hillary comments/editorials...NOT, as in NOT ONE.
Its reverse-fox news. - Hetman, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2Im just saying the fox news journalist and the Huffington post journalist have about the same out look on journalism.
- rodgerse, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3you mean "fair and balanced" journalism?.
- dagamer34, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3Except the Huffington Post is right probably 50% of the time and Fox is always wrong. Or maybe HuffPost has been the only site that hasn't being the Hillary distortion field for the past 2 months and realized that Obama won 2 months ago. Your choice.
- rodgerse, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Actually, they supported him long ago, like just before super tuesday when it was do-or-die for him.

- booshack, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3Huffpost is a political blog, fox news is MSM. Also, huffpost never claimed to be "fair and balanced", "we report you decide" etc.
- lostarchitect, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2the key difference is that the huffington post is almost all editorial and opinion, it doesn't really pretend to be hard news. fox does.
- rodgerse, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1then why the f*ck us it as a source at all????.
- lostarchitect, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1what do you mean? noone's sourcing it here. also, you can say "*****".
- rodgerse, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1then why the f*ck us it as a source at all????.
- fluxion, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3maybe huffington post should come right out and say they endorse obama for president.
everyone knows that's the case, and it's getting old hearing people complaining about it. newspapers tend to be biased towards particular candidates, a large number publicly declare their endorsements. that's why you get your news from varied sources.- rodgerse, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Arrianna huffington has made that clear enough...I think her editorials speak for themselves and she knows everyone knows.
- rodgerse, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2Yeah, with huffpo you sure will find alot of pro-hillary comments/editorials...NOT, as in NOT ONE.
- cmuwriter, on 05/07/2008, -1/+4Yeah, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the title of this post a little misleading? I never actually could find where the O'Donnell guy said "Hillary will drop out by June 15" other than when he was asking a question. The title reads like that was O'Donnell's statement. I kind of supported Hillary, I'm not going to lie, but now I just don't see her having enough steam to win this nomination. If that is the case, and she knows it, she should drop out soon so the nominees can hash out policy issues so people will know who to vote for.
- IphtashuFitz, on 05/07/2008, -0/+8Dunno if this is accurate or not but it's currently on the front page of the Drudge Report:

- FuckXboxx, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Are you ignorant to the fact that the American dollar has been intentionally devalued so that other countries could buy our food reserves to feed their own populations for MUCH CHEAPER so that we'll have a major food shortage that will allow the president to declare a state of emergency?

- IslandDog, on 05/07/2008, -9/+1How pathetic the democrats side of the election has become. Obama and Hillary, the best they can get. LOL.
- brownrecluse888, on 05/07/2008, -1/+5Sheesh people!! Everyone who follows politics closely knows that Hilary staying in the race is GOOD, not bad for Obama. Obama's key people have said this over and over again. This super close race is bringing out record numbers of new Dem voters which will be very helpful to Obama come the general election. If Obama would have one the nomination months ago the number of new Democratic voters would have been much less.
Have none of you followed the last 2 elections? Bush won by the smallest of margins, and its looking like it will close again. The second Clinton drops out it will be a full force attack by McCain and the far right, so the longer she stays in the better. Not only that, but it gives Obama time to diffuse these so called scandals and helps him hone his political chops.
The only real challenge for Obama after she drops out will be converting Clinton supporters to her side.- donaho, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2Clinton supporters will see the light and convert when the ticket reads: Obama-Clinton. Then, everyone that vowed to vote for one, but not the other, will convert to "Democrat." It's a revolting marriage of candidates that figuratively stand for opposite values, but it will beat McCain. The exhausting press coverage of the dem nominee disallows discussion of McCain, but only for now, which saves all the ghastly liabilities of McCain for a time too close to the election for the Republicans to recover. So, yes, I'd like to throw her in a fire, too, but so far, her mania is doing more good than harm.
- Cancerkitty, on 05/07/2008, -0/+4I think a lot of these "new" Dems we're seeing a Republicans who don't have to worry about their primary and can try to give the weaker candidate a bump.

Why do the crazies buzz around when I say something. I just don't get it. What is it about me, that make people go out their way to get my attention. Is there a repellent I can spray on myself. What is the message? I don't understand crazy talk, if you speak directly to me, maybe I can help you. You would be surprised, maybe I want the same thing as you. - akatsuki, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3She wants to go out on a win maybe... I think she will collect a bunch of money for the next supposed contest, and use it to repay her debts without campaigning too hard.
- rodgerse, on 05/07/2008, -3/+6Really, why all the huffpo stories?. If I want "fair and balanced" I'll go to fox news for the latest on the democratic race...'cause I'm sure just like huffpo obama will neither be bashed or glowed upon / ;).
Seriously, politico.com atleast or something..- BXRWXR, on 05/07/2008, -2/+2Why not?
- mike17032, on 05/07/2008, -0/+4Because they say what the diggiots want to hear.
- AnnaBannana48, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2June 15 is about 4 months too late as far as Im concerned
- wynja, on 05/07/2008, -3/+1How many other skeptics think that he may be hinting that Obama will be dropping out on the 15th? The dirty ***** political machine seems to want Hillary as the nominee. Do we really think then that she's not going to be the nominee?
- Titan615, on 05/07/2008, -2/+3Sweet June 15th is my B-day, what a perfect present!
- rawg, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2She'll have to drop out before then if she runs out of money. I can't imagine many more people signing on to donate to her campaign once the media starts telling a more realistic story about her chances for the nomination. That'll just leave the hard core supporters remaining to help her pay of her debts and that's only if they haven't already capped out at the $2300 limit.
- trixterIreland, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2think about all the jobs she has created by spendng so many millions. she is running the race to help out the economy!!! its her stimulus package
