Kentucky Derby - Sen. Obama's pick wins, Sen. Clintons Dies

blogs.abcnews.com — As Eight Belles went down on the track after her second-place finish today, she broke two ankles, and was euthanized. Sen. Hillary Clinton,during a trip to Louisville this week had said she was going to bet on Eight Belles to win, place, and show. The horse Sen. Barack Obama, picked to show -- Big Brown -- won the Derby.

  • KLBP, on 05/04/2008, -1/+6It is sad to hear about Belle breaking both her front ankles. Unfortunatly horses can not live if they can not stand. Horses can only lay down for short periods of time without their own body weight killing them.

    While vets might be able to save a horse with one broken leg, there is little they can do for a horse with two broken legs and thus can not stand. If the vets didn't put her down on the track, she would have died a slow painful death.

    It is kind of freaky that Obama's horse won.

  • nsummy, on 05/04/2008, -3/+2Wow, Obama fans are always on here complaining about not focusing on issues and various attacks from Clinton. This however reaches a new low. I watch the Kentucky Derby every year but besides that am not a big horse racing fan. Regardless of you like or dislike of horse racing, what happened today was sad. A living creature died.

    That said, everyone knew Big Brown was going to win. Its not like Obama picked some horse that was favored 40-1 and the horse won it. If anything, Clinton made the best pick as her horse, a long shot, got 2nd. Myself, I ended up with the exacta and won $70 off of a $1 bet. What does that mean? Absolutely nothing, just as what the presidential contenders pick means nothing.
