I don't think many people realize how often McCain said this and how he always lets Gramm answer questions about the economy. Plus, McCain's big lie that "Gramm doesn't speak for me" when that very day he was doing a WSJ editorial board meeting (that McCain should have been at) to "speak for McCain." Why does he get away with this?
