John McCain: I graduated fifth from the bottom of my class watch!

- aliengoods, on 07/15/2008, -10/+40From the top, not the bottom.
- arvvvs, on 07/15/2008, -2/+16Obama went to Havard though.
- ReeferChiefer42, on 07/15/2008, -3/+17@ arvvvs: So what? Bush went to Yale and Harvard Business, you can buy your way into any school...
- Noodleson, on 07/15/2008, -12/+4I don't know why, but I always find the anti-obama stuff funny, lol. They always get sooo many downs, like "OMG you made fun of a politician!? I'd better bury that for the 34th time, that'll show em!"
- solistus, on 07/16/2008, -2/+19A quick Google search reveals that Obama graduated from Harvard Law. Magna Cume Laude. That's pretty damn impressive, whichever side of the political spectrum you're on. Isn't it about time we elected an intelligent President again?
- bryceman111, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2@arvvvs - Is HAVARD pretty hard to get into?
- hmunkey, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4@Reefer
Obama couldn't buy his way into Harvard with his standard of living.
Oh, and he was the head of the Harvard Law Review. You can't buy that.
Not to mention that today, Ivy Leagues are getting tough on acceptances even if your family is rich.
@ Bryce
Number one ranked school (give or take) in the world.
- IphtashuFitz, on 07/15/2008, -4/+69That high?
- PoopStick, on 07/15/2008, -98/+8You know Obama's High he's still selling rock and heroin to support his terrorist buddies.
- acroyear2, on 07/15/2008, -5/+26@PoopStick
Hah ha. Oh poopstick. Your next 8 years will be hell. Keep writing your material. It'll keep you busy. - MizSwann, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1@ PoopStick
Stereotypist Racist Much?
What a PoopStick!
- calebhawk, on 07/15/2008, -7/+26bush seems like he'd be the "frank the tank" kinda guy at parties, that somehow became president of our country. he belongs in a beer pong tournament, not the white house. and McCain has no business in the white house either, but somehow he was able to hitch a ride on Noah's ark instead of drowning with all the non believers... (yes he's that old)
- eohano, on 07/15/2008, -12/+2Haa! You said McCain was old! LOLOLOLOLOL. THATS SO FUNNY.
- TheCasablancan, on 07/16/2008, -3/+1Truly.
I don't dig Bush as the President, but I'm sure his parties kick a metric ***** of ass when they aren't being protested. Jager shots anyone?
The *****'s so cash.
- forceeffect, on 07/15/2008, -4/+20Graduated Fifth from the Bottom? So basically, this means McCain will be democratically elected President then. ;)
(I'm an American. It's okay if an American says it)- bjornski, on 07/15/2008, -2/+5Voted in by a nation of C and D students, yes.
- darkciti2, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4It means the system is broken.
When aptitude is defeated by fraternity, our Country dies.
- mattrh, on 07/15/2008, -10/+35Bush went to Harvard and got a 2.35, which is actually borderline average, but hes still a pretty dumb guy. McCain graduated from the United States Naval Academy near the bottom 1%. That is how much dumber McCain is than Bush. A lot ***** dumber.
- Scottievm, on 07/15/2008, -3/+31Bush went to Yale.
- m0tbaillie, on 07/15/2008, -14/+10Are you implying that the USNA is somehow inferior to ivy-league schools?
Lol, good luck with that one... - sovietninja, on 07/15/2008, -6/+4Go keep watching Top Gun and remember Tom Cruise was the main character.
- ReeferChiefer42, on 07/15/2008, -0/+11@ Scottievm: Bush also went to Harvard Business, I believe that is what mattrh was referring to. Do a little research.
- caramba420, on 07/15/2008, -1/+5@m0tbaillie
Yes, USNA is inferior to ivy-league schools. Harvard faculty have won 32 Nobel Prizes. USNA faculty have won zero. In fact, only one alumnus, Albert A. Michelson ever went on to win a Nobel prize. Alan Hale is about the only other relevant academic that I can think of that is a USNA alum. USNA has no graduate program. USNA alumni are unlikely to ever get accepted into any university's graduate program. Other than that, it's a great school. - calcio0fan, on 07/16/2008, -1/+102.35 at Harvard is not even close to average with the grade inflation there. Anything less than a 3.35 is pretty bad
- Speed, on 07/16/2008, -0/+32.35 is barely a pass. You get kicked out of most schools if your GPA is below 2 (and to get into the UofA, you need 2.7)
- Tssst, on 07/16/2008, -1/+1Not a McCain supporter but: Aptitude is not always reflected in academic standings. As a member of the CF, I know several officers in the Canadian Airforce, and I know only the best and brightest get to be fighter pilots. You know it the minute you meet them. You meet a fighter pilot and he oozes with intelligence and wit, and then you meet a helicopter pilot, and he's like 'whazzzaaa?!!!'
- Shadow503, on 07/15/2008, -2/+15Keep in mind that this is the Naval Academy. That said, 5th from last still isn't too impresive.
- paradexes, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6Senility tends to kick in at his age. Either that was a verbal faux paux or he really is that dumb or senile. Either way if he becomes president...we all lose. We dont need a senile president, we dont need another idiot in the oval office and we dont need someone so old that he could possibly die in office from old age.
- MizSwann, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Um...actually it was NOT a faux pas but he IS getting a little tattered around the edges.
In other words, he's too old AND too dumb.
Nice guy, tho - he arta just go on home & bask in Cindy's $$Jillions$$ while he has a little time left - bless his heart....
- MizSwann, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Um...actually it was NOT a faux pas but he IS getting a little tattered around the edges.
- paradox4190, on 07/15/2008, -1/+13I think Bush is just acting like a moron because it makes people less likely to suspect that he's gaming the entire country for money.
- ebolaworld, on 07/15/2008, -0/+14If that's the case, give that man an Emmy!
- dandr1544, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0I disagree. I think he's really that dumb and is just a tool for the Machiavellian greedheads that are really running and ruining the country.
- Disregard, on 07/15/2008, -6/+7American's stupid, vote for stupid people, news at blah
- flink405, on 07/15/2008, -0/+12So what is the top ranking guy of his graduating class doing these days?
- darkciti2, on 07/16/2008, -0/+8Probably affecting change that actually makes the world a better place (most likely in a lab, or an observatory, or as a member of a think-tank).
You may not hear of him, but he's probably making the world a better place somewhere, somehow.
If someone like Bush can get the job, we clearly need less corruption and more intelligent leaders.
- darkciti2, on 07/16/2008, -0/+8Probably affecting change that actually makes the world a better place (most likely in a lab, or an observatory, or as a member of a think-tank).

- MizSwann, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Well, kinda - in a manner of speaking.....after all, he does have a diploma; so what if Daddy bought it for him?!
- ligyron, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4I like how he talks about not knowing anything about computers and barely passing school like it's a good thing

- diggrnumber1, on 07/16/2008, -3/+1i don't like bush either, but i'm pretty sure yale doesn't rank students.
- Iztikeit, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I had no idea GPA was a good indicator of leadership abilities.
Would someone explain this to me?
Because I'm fairly certain Truman didn't graduate at all.
- gonegoogling, on 07/15/2008, -75/+11obama was sixth
- josereyes0, on 07/15/2008, -15/+119Well that explains a lot.
- kevinwiz, on 07/15/2008, -9/+2No it doesn't (see above comment)
- TheTaoOfBill, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4But...the above comment says it does explain a lot.
I am as confused as John McCain on Youtube right now.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4But...the above comment says it does explain a lot.
- mattlohkamp, on 07/15/2008, -5/+8Wait, you don't actually think that your GPA somehow correlates to your intelligence and ability, do you? Are you one of those kids who got grounded if they brought home anything less then an A-? Don't listen to your parents - grade systems do not reliably communicate the worth of an individual.
- orelses, on 07/15/2008, -2/+15It does translate into dedication and focus. I've always been pretty much a C student. Know why? Because I didn't study a lot and/or didn't do all of my homework. However I did go to class everyday and was active in class. Which created the perception that I was dedicated like Mccain. Doing the time doesn't matter if you don't understand or remember anything.
- nickvdk, on 07/15/2008, -0/+9Orelses is right, you can have all the IQ points in the world but if you dont know how to apply your intelligence and have determination you are just as useful as a guy with low intelligence.
- bjornski, on 07/15/2008, -0/+10@mattlohkamp

- metaliq, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1@mattlohkamp
Congratulations! You can buy more worthless crap than the other 99%!
Must feel good to be so successful.
- rpgmaker, on 07/15/2008, -4/+5Well, if anything, this headline is inspirational for me. From being one of the last of his class he got to be a ***** presidential candidate for one of the major parties in the US.
- winampman2, on 07/16/2008, -0/+8Don't forget the "marry the daughter of a $340 million dollar beer distributor" part.
- pjpark, on 07/16/2008, -2/+1I thought that was a good, straight-forward answer. One of the few times that I have heard McCain speak when I didn't cringe. Sometimes the most educated people are the stupidest. His class rank has nothing to do with why I am not going to vote for him.
- iziizi, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Hold on a second, John McCain is illiterate and he is running for the biggest power in the world?
THATS A ***** JOKE AMERICA

- fr3ddie, on 07/15/2008, -17/+6Im going on a GTA style killing frenzy ANYWAY!
... on xbox of course. - quez, on 07/15/2008, -0/+89Be prepared for a really long delay next time you try to board a plane.
Just a heads up.- jayobear, on 07/16/2008, -0/+9I'm filipino but because my surname is sorta long, they "randomly" (at least that's what they told us) gave my entire family a thorough search coming into America. We almost missed our flight.
- MizSwann, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1See y'all at the Camp....I'll bring the chips & dip!
Recently went on a trip to China for pleasure (my spouse travels there monthly on business so I finally went with him...) and I gotta tell ya - we were pulled out of security lines AT EVERY FLIGHT to be physically searched. I was accused of having "multiple pairs of scissors" in my make-up bag (I had tweezers, an eyelash curler, and a small pair of blunt 'nail' scissors, granted...)
TRUST ME ON THIS: If you're on the internet looking at and/or commenting on things political - you're one in a million...as in, one in a million names on a freaking LIST.
Bastards have completely raped the Constitution of the United States and wanna harass citizens, yet they can't even attempt to intercept so much as one (ONE!!?) of four 'hi-jacked' jetliners off the EAST COAST on 9/11??!
Impeach Bush & his cabinet of conspirators...they are incompetent as well as untrustworthy.
I wanna see a trial and a sentence.

- kd1s, on 07/15/2008, -10/+8Can I join in the fun? Actually it isn't fun, it's our birthright. The reason the 2nd amendment was written was so that the populace could nip a despotic administration in the bud.

Barack Obama:
Ok for states & cities to determine local gun laws. (Apr 2008)
FactCheck: Yes, Obama endorsed Illinois handgun ban. (Apr 2008)
Respect 2nd Amendment, but local gun bans ok. (Feb 2008)
Provide some common-sense enforcement on gun licensing. (Jan 2008)
2000: cosponsored bill to limit purchases to 1 gun per month. (Oct 2007)
Concealed carry OK for retired police officers. (Aug 2007)
Stop unscrupulous gun dealers dumping guns in cities. (Jul 2007)
Keep guns out of inner cities--but also problem of morality. (Oct 2006)
Ban semi-automatics, and more possession restrictions. (Jul 1998)
Voted NO on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers. (Jul 2005)

- nsareadthis, on 07/15/2008, -22/+383And he crashed 5 planes. One definitely wasn't his fault when another jet misfired a rocket on deck of a carrier, and the time he was shot down in Vietnam probably wasn't his fault either, although McCain himself did say of it that "It doesn't take a great deal of effort to get shot down." The others, well, what other pilot ever crashed so many planes and still got to fly another? And for that matter, how the hell did anyone ever get to be a flyboy after graduating 894th out of 899?
Oh yeah, his daddy and grandpappy were both admirals. Straight-up nepotism, and as soon as he learned he was never going to become a flag officer because he was such a screwup, he quit the navy and ran for office.
But mcCain's the one america trusts more to become commander in chief? WTF?!?!?!- AchaIemoipas, on 07/15/2008, -2/+94The TV told them.
People are ***** stupid. And I don't mean, they're not intelligent, I mean they're really ***** dumb. The entire Rwanda genocide was orchestrated from a radio broadcast. Nazi Germany turned their entire population into antisemites that supported an oppressive fascist state and a genocide with 9 years of radio broadcasts and inspirational speeches.
Getting a puppet elected is peanuts compared to these things.
Main stream media will not mention these things.

You only have to convince 2% of them which one is the true idiot. Bush barely won in 2004, by a 2% margin.
That means it was 49% Kerry, 51% Bush.
Bush and McCain's actions are proven FAILURE:
* War in Afghanistan/Iraq Invasion/No bin Laden
* $4.00/gallon gas
* Torture of US citizens
* Katrina
* Wiretapping US citizens
* Giving the internet to corporations via Net Neutrality
* Signing legislation that enables banks to cash in on the Housing crisis
* ad nausem (I'm not even going to mention all the scandals)
ITS ***** NAUSEATING THAT THIS IS HAPPENING IN THE US.
When Bush took office in January 2001:
The unemployment rate was 4.2%, now it is 5.5%.
The inflation rate was 3.7%, now it is 4.1%.
Gasoline was around $1.45, now it is almost $5.00.
The S&P 500 was 1,342 and now it is 1,261.
The trade weighted dollar was 122.7, now it is 96.0.
The Republicans keep warning us that if we elect a Democratic
president things will go in the opposite direction.
It's an easy decision for me. Vote out every Republican on every ballot.
- SSCrow, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7We should elect his grandfather, we could use some good ol Civil War experience when dealing with Iraq.
- foofightrs777, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5Actually McCain has the Civil War covered himself. His grandfather would surely have some insights on the 7 Years War (French and Indian War to us Americans) though.
- MakiNavaja, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Wouldn't 894th out of 899 make him sixth from bottom?
Just sayin...

- whataboutdave, on 07/15/2008, -59/+28How many of these commenters could cut it for even a week at Annapolis? Here's a hint: not many.
There are legitimate cases to be made against McCain, but his class standing isn't among the stronger ones.- ezrastiles, on 07/15/2008, -8/+14you think mccain could fart his way through annapolis at the ripe old age of 72? dumb as a brick isn't a qualification to president fo the united states.
- randomguy132, on 07/15/2008, -3/+35Yes, but how many of them are running for President of the United States?
- dubhousing, on 07/15/2008, -3/+15Beg to differ: Bush's class standing was an indicator of his total lack of intellectual curiosity. This news does not bode well for that of McCain.
As a side note, see here for an article from (the admittedly biased) salon.com on Obama's intellectual curiosities: http://www.salon.com/books/feature/2008/07/07/obam ...
I'd say Niebuhr, Alinsky, Philip Roth, and Shakespeare are far more promising than My Pet Goat. - cicerojnr, on 07/15/2008, -3/+9Actually it is extremely relevant. After finishing pathetically, he got posted on one of the most sought after, exclusive details that should have been reserved for someone far better than him. But due to Daddy's influence in the Navy, l'il Johnny got the best posting.
Kind of reminds me of Bush's... well, his whole bloody existence, to be honest.
His class standing shows how useless and inept he was, is, and certainly will be. - rearlgrant, on 07/15/2008, -3/+4Agreed, in some ways it's to be admired.
I had friends in Annapolis and New Haven (USCCGA) who tried to compete to get the most demerits without being kicked out, but other students who weren't trying still got more demerits and still managed to graduate. That's an accomplishment.
I'd hire bottom of the class from Annapolis over bottom of the class Yale Business School any day.- dubhousing, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3minor edit: usccga is in new london, not new haven. i know it's not substantial (even though i don't agree with you).
- rearlgrant, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2Good catch, college was several brain cells ago...
- Mononuclear, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2How does a school where people try to kicked out yet they still graduate make you want to hire people from that school? I'd rather someone who takes their education seriously and doesn't try to get kicked out or spend it at drunken frat parties.

- grantino9, on 07/15/2008, -3/+18...And about 1000 ppl do it every year. I don't want to denigrate the USNA, but if simply graduating is a presidential qualifier, about 50,000 people are more qualified than Gramps since the time he graduated.
- DuggDowner, on 07/15/2008, -0/+8It would be more impressive if he didn't use his daddy and grand-daddy to get accepted in the first place.

May as well, the people we get to chose from are jokes anyway. - jonahhorowitz, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2I'm really pissed over the FISA vote too, but really? The next president is going to decide the makeup of the supreme court. No matter how bad Obama's picks are, they will be better than McCain's. If you don't vote, or you vote for someone other than Obama, that's what you're risking.
Unless of course you live in California, where your vote doesn't count anyway. - BestJaxx, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2@afx1: I though you were talking about the plural of Kodo http://www.phuson.com/son/images/kodos.jpg
- TsuruchiBrian, on 07/16/2008, -2/+1@jonahhorowitz
I live in California and my vote doesn't count.
But even if I lived in a "battleground state", seriously what are the odds that my one little vote will be the vote that causes or stops a hand recount? Also that state would have to not only be a battleground state where my vote tipped the election in that state, but also a state with enough electoral votes to tip the nationwide election.
I have voted in every election since I turned 18, but I am under no illusions that my vote will ever change a national election. I vote because I want to feel like I am doing what I think is right. This also means that if I vote for "the lesser of two evils", I may as well just stay home, because that is truly a wasted vote.

- acroyear2, on 07/15/2008, -0/+30Painfully true.
Joe Truckstop is looking at this video right now and thinking, "Well, man. He knows how to wear a suit. I'll vote fer him."- diggrnumber1, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1i've noticed that on i-80 in the sierras, there are a couple of road signs actually written in trucker language. the truckers might refuse to listen if the wording is more formal. for example, the sign might read "slow 'er down" or something like that. that way, the truckers feel less like they're being ordered around.
- dymaxium, on 07/15/2008, -0/+10That's sad but fairly true. Some of the finest minds in this country would make exceptional leaders yet they're often passed up at primary time.
- leakus, on 07/15/2008, -0/+8I have the impression, that here in Europe you don't get respect for being financially successful and in the US you don't get respect for being intellectual. Did anyone else notice that, or is that just in my imagination?
- paradexes, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5Well he would still intellectually intimidate the people who are willing to vote for him. I mean seriously Naval Academy 5th from the bottom is still allot better than having a 5th grade education. FOX news makes it very easy to understand that McCain is the man to vote for. He could say he is going to piss on the constitution, just to relieve his own constitution, and the people McCain is pandering to would still vote for him. Because he said the word constitution. Not because of any meaning of what he is doing. All he has to do is wave a flag and talk to Sean Hannity afterwards.
- blcarmadillo, on 07/16/2008, -5/+1Quit winning about FOX news. Goodness you liberals have all the big news networks trying to push the liberal agenda down everyone's throat.
- johnroth, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3Might as well vote Zaphod Beeblebrox then!
- Risingashes, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1You're spot on with that Leakus. Americans worship money. The majority of the rest of us look at the rich with a healthy mistrust- tall poppy syndrome. I'm sure our corresponding respect for intellectuals and thinkers is equally confusing to Americans.
- acroyear2, on 07/15/2008, -0/+30Painfully true.

Edit: Staunch Iraq War opponent, Pat Buchanan, appearing on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews, just minutes ago, has also admitted it.

- Mononuclear, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8If by elitist you mean he is smarter than you and makes more money than you then yes he is an elitist. I am tired of people trying to throw around that stupid word as if it's something to be ashamed of.

- silent7seven, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5"...you are candidate looks down on you."
When you hit rock bottom intellectually, does that not make everyone an elitist?
- 10lbhammer, on 07/15/2008, -0/+8jeremyadam, I have a question that I want you to answer for me, and answer honestly:
did you actually think obama was elitist *before* the media told you to think that?- jeremyadam, on 07/15/2008, -8/+0hahaha i make up my own mind...im not a sheep. praising someone for talking about change and hope but not backing it up with any examples of said hope or change sounds more like being told what to think.
- 10lbhammer, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7way to not even get close to anything resembling your reasoning for obama's "elitism..."
- jayobear, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6What the heck? Obama doesn't fill up 15-30 minute speeches by repeating the words "change" and "hope" the whole time, his speeches have actual content and examples. Listen to him for once instead of taking his slogan you read once on a billboard next to his face and pretending he stands for nothing.
- 5plic3r, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3Actually, he's both.
- Xondar, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5When it comes to wealth, McCain is incredibly elitist. When it comes to intelligence, he's a moron.

I'd rather have an intellectual elitist in power rather than someone so wealthy they can no longer relate to common people.

- paradox4190, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3I don't know, being crafty only gets you so far with two broken arms and a broken leg drifting in and out of consciousness after ejecting out of a crashing plane. I don't agree with his views but I respect what he did for this country.

more or less everyone working for /supporting him - masterspeaks, on 07/15/2008, -3/+8Can we please stop all the bickering!?! C'mon guys, I think we can all agree that being held captive for a few years is ample qualification for the American Presidency. Honestly, think about it... The guy basically had to sit in a box for like 6 years. What experience can there possibly be that would better prepare a person to be the leader of the free world? A graduate degree? Please. Only liberal sissies like Obama would waste 3 years at Harvard Law! A true badass would drop bombs on third world villages and crash a plane or two.
John McCain is a maverick, people... a maverick. And if you don't think his captivity had something to do with that, just wait til those Austrian kids who spent the first 18 years of their lives in a basement run for congress in Austria.
Captivity makes a man stronger. This is why I support the fact that America has the highest incarceration rate in the ENTIRE WORLD! A full 1% of our population is behind bars! I would imagine San Quentin might be a little bit less glamorous than the Hanoi Hilton, but I think it's providing millions of Americans with the same kind of leadership experience that will make John McLame the greatest American warlord since Bush. - jayobear, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2@masterspeaks, brilliant. - saucypony, on 07/15/2008, -2/+27I understand that being a POW is certainly a trying experience. I do NOT understand, however, how being put through that automatically empowers someone with the leadership, insight, and decision making skills necessary to being the President of the United States of America.
Honestly, I don't understand how ANYONE in politics (not necessarily just John McCain) can play the POW card and gain instant credibility for a leadership role. That should not be the foundation of a candidate's "electability."- charm803, on 07/15/2008, -0/+15But isn't it funny how the same Republicans played down John Kerry's service and supported Bush who conveniently didn't serve in the military?

- dracostimpy, on 07/15/2008, -13/+2Buried after reading "I am voting for Obama" since at that point, I knew the rest of your comment was garbage.
- Qumahlin, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3Read up on McCain's POW experience and the experience of the other captors. I'm not going to get into it here since I don't feel like replying to the various threads of people demanding evidence because they are too lazy to look for themselves.
I'm not saying his POW experience was a vacation, but it really wasn't as terrible as most people think it to be. It was bad, but i'll bet after reading up on it a lot of you will see it's was not 1/10th as bad as what you are imagining.
Being a POW gives you no experience in being a leader. It doesn't even give you military experience as evidenced if you look at McCains career he was pretty much bottom of the barrel.
- t4ll3y, on 07/15/2008, -17/+7Why? He ***** got caught. Vote for the guy who escaped capture, he's ***** crafty.
- digglet08, on 07/15/2008, -2/+14Nice, they even crammed in a bonus blooper!
- ShitStainedBall, on 07/15/2008, -12/+26Almost as impressive as Clinton's accomplishment of getting Arkansas school system from 50th to 49th in education.
- revjustin2, on 07/15/2008, -4/+12Fail. That apple looks nothing like McCain's orange.
- AchaIemoipas, on 07/15/2008, -3/+24At least it's something.
Name McCain's accomplishments now.
1. Crashed 5 planes.
2. Got caught.
3. Got tortured and talked.
4. Married while still married.
5. Dumped his wife for being disfigured in an accident.
6. Barely graduated.
7. Witnessed the 30's. - paradexes, on 07/15/2008, -1/+10You missed a couple:
8. First presidential candidate with senility (Bob Dole was old...but consistent at least)
9. Acts like the liberals his party accuses of flip-flopping.
10. If elected could be the first president to die in office of old age. - fuzzynyanko, on 07/15/2008, -1/+149th is far better, though still lousy
- lmhazardous, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3don't forget:
11. Called his wife a c*nt in public.
- Chahrlie5, on 07/15/2008, -19/+18Had he gone to a community college then I would care more, however he went the Naval Academy, not an easy school.
- xutopia, on 07/15/2008, -14/+7Academically not easy or physically not easy? There is a huge difference and I honestly don't care much to elect someone who can do more push ups than another candidate.
- pwnsey, on 07/15/2008, -2/+20Do you know anything about the US Naval Academy? It is the one of the most strenuous academic schools in the world.
- whatisnotmyname, on 07/15/2008, -2/+15Do you know anything about Naval Academy? It sounds like you're confusing a rigorous education in a prestigious institution with what you think boot camp is like. I honestly don't care much to read comments by someone who doesn't even know push-ups don't replace grades even in military colleges.
edit: Sorry, pwnsey beat me too it. Should have refreshed earlier. - MackDiesel2010, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Anyone who earns a bachelor of science from the Naval Academy is above the boards, considering the numerous military obligations on top of the strict academic rigors. 1/3 of the class rank is comprised of company officer / peer ranking, brigade leadership roles, and physical fitness tests / PE courses. Don't forget the 200-300 cadets that get kicked out throughout the 4-year program.
- dacrazydude, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2...Regardless of what college you go to or went to, there is no academic institution high enough to look down on the Naval Academy. It is definitely up there with some of the better Ivy league schools.
- acroyear2, on 07/15/2008, -6/+145th from the bottom is still pushing it. No matter the school especially if you're running for president.
- richmomz, on 07/15/2008, -6/+9I don't care what school he went to - graduating 894 out of 899 in his class means he was either mentally slow or incredibly lazy. Just like Bush (another academic superstar).
- diggrnumber1, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3there are 100's of thousands of other americans that have graduated from better schools. why elect mccain when we should have all those other choices.
- xutopia, on 07/15/2008, -14/+7Academically not easy or physically not easy? There is a huge difference and I honestly don't care much to elect someone who can do more push ups than another candidate.
- acroyear2, on 07/15/2008, -9/+117I hope the Obama campaign uses his gpa quote if they decide to go "negative".
McCain - 5th from the bottom up GPA
Obama - President of Harvard Law Review
That's it. That'll weed out the undecideds.- soupdawg30, on 07/15/2008, -6/+22Considering most undecideds have not graduated from college I doubt they will care.
- kayala, on 07/15/2008, -1/+52I think we've already determined that Americans are more likely to choose a President based on how much they'd like to have a beer with the guy than how intelligent, educated or even ***** aware of current events he is.
- Evilena, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2Very true. Its a good thing that McCain isn't the type of guy may people would want to have a beer with.
- lmhazardous, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0Exactly. Who wouldn't want to have a beer with Obama?!
- dafragsta, on 07/15/2008, -15/+8I love that, even though McCain is a total idiot douche that it magically makes Obama an ideal candidate to be president. I love that a politician who has only been in Washington for four years has been able to ***** his way to the very top.
Obama is as much a bad choice as McCain is. They both want to keep spending fiat money and driving the economy down. I don't see how you guys are so sold on him. I still want to know what secret meetings he went to back in June. I suspect he's a Bilderberger and you don't have to look any further than the head of his VP selection team who resigned the weekend of Bilderberg.- acroyear2, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6Obama's still a better choice than McCain.
Me personally, I'm considering Bob Barr. - saxmaster, on 07/15/2008, -3/+4Absolutely correct... I'm going to have a very hard time voting come election day. McCain has proven himself to be a hotheaded liberal idiot, and Obama is running on failed policies from the 1960s, hollow rhetoric, and white guilt. As a conservative, I'm not sure what to do.
- chopstick2000, on 07/15/2008, -3/+1voting for one because the other is worse does not imply that the one you're voting for is the ideal choice...
in presidential elections we must always choose the better of two terribles, and that's just the way it is. - dafragsta, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2Why have elections then, if we are chosing the better of two terribles? It's a ***** illusion, as much as the rest of the ***** they pumped up your ass in grade school and graded you on your retention of such garbage.
- AchaIemoipas, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1I'd just like to point out at this time that if the power was given back to the states, the president wouldn't matter as much, being only one of many players.
Write RP in.
Compare him to anybody. - acroyear2, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2@saxmaster
Obama isn't running on "white guilt" loser. That's society's problem. He's also promoting moving past the conflicts of Vietnam vs. Woodstock. It's gotten old. - johnroth, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2I'ma gunna vote for a sack of *****!
- Qumahlin, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1For those now questioning voting and "the system", anyone who has played Civilization 4 knows that Democracy is not the ideal government choice.

Seven and a half years later his approval rating is hovering around 20 something percent.
Ozymandias42Ozymandias42, maybe it is time for you and other Americans to stop voting for presidential candidates based on whether or not you would want them for beer buddy?
- Evilena, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7I would much rather have a beer with an elitist nerd than a regular guy.
- tcpik, on 07/15/2008, -6/+45We need a president who is technologically sound to move us into the future. At least Obama wants to lay more broadband lines in rural areas. McCain probably doesn't even know the definition of broadband.
- charm803, on 07/15/2008, -0/+9Think Dixie Chicks in their late 70's.
- saxmaster, on 07/15/2008, -7/+3So is Obama going to go out into rural areas and lay the lines himself, or is he going to order the military to do it? How about leaving that one up to telecommunication companies and people who actually live in rural areas, not Obama.
- arvvvs, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4Ask Comcast. They love to rip me off. They won't put any broadband lines, it'll force them to lower prices.
- Rednik2011, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6Arghh so mad at the government making the US more interconnected via technology!!!
- caramba420, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Yeah, because leaving up to the telecoms has worked so well that the US ranks #43 in Internet connectivity. Brilliant!
- gr3yn3t, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1More libertarian / conservative *****.
It's simply not as profitable for the telecom companies to lay more lines in rural areas, however, it still needs to be done. Private business exists solely to make as much money as possible, and laying broadband in rural areas is not the way to do it.
If the telecom companies won't do it out of their own goodwill, government needs to step in.
- zebraz, on 07/15/2008, -9/+2" Over the last 15 months, we've traveled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in 57 states. I think one left to go." Barack Obama
- masterspeaks, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1There were 57 contests in the primary election. He was probably including U.S. territories he had to visit by accident.
- Troy64, on 07/15/2008, -3/+3Why is it the governments responsibility to lay broadband lines. That is the responsibility of the private sector.
- caramba420, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2Because the telecoms are dragging their asses. It is absurd that we can be the wealthiest nation in the world, but still have such paltry internet access, especially given the fact that we invented the ***** thing. It would also be very difficult to argue that there wouldn't be an immediate benefit to our economy if everyone in the country had a 100mb drop.
- Troy64, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1If they are going to get bailed out by the government, why would they ever upgrade themselves.
- Mutt76, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1nor do the people in those rural areas
- caramba420, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1Do you know the definition of broadband? Most people think it has something to do with having high throughput, but it doesn't. A 9600 baud modem is technically broadband. Broadband just means that the signal is transmitted over several frequencies, in contrast to baseband which transmits over one frequency. My company's 100mb dedicated Ethernet internet connection is not broadband.
- deusexmachina1, on 07/15/2008, -23/+25He graduated from a service academy. Not exactly the easiest thing to do. It is NOTHING like a normal college.
- baldr, on 07/15/2008, -6/+8clearly you have never been to Annapolis (the school McCain graduated from).
- deusexmachina1, on 07/15/2008, -6/+9Actually, I currently attend the Air Force Academy and was at USNA last semester as part of an exchange program. I think I would know.
- baldr, on 07/15/2008, -6/+2okay. but even if you are telling the truth, you have never been to a normal college. Needing to wake up early for PT doesn't make your life objectively harder or easier than my life.
- deusexmachina1, on 07/15/2008, -6/+3That is true. On the flip side however, you have never attended a service academy. There are certain challenges that an academy offers that do not exist at a normal college. To be honest, physical training was never really a challenge for me. Academics kicked my ass last year though.
- kbreezy04, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2Anyone who goes through a military academy and graduates that low does not make a good officer. I know it is hard to graduate from a military academy but graduating that low takes talent.
- richmomz, on 07/15/2008, -3/+6I don't care what school he went to - graduating 894 out of 899 in his class means he was either mentally slow or incredibly lazy. That's BELOW the 99th percentile! It's very likely that the only reason he even got IN that school was because of his family. Just like Bush (another academic superstar).
- Badandy127, on 07/15/2008, -6/+1Would you call someone who was nearly last in intelligence at a MENSA meeting below the 99th percentile and think it meant something?
- caramba420, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1@andy
It would mean something if you were forced to choose between him and one of the smartest people in MENSA to perform a task that required intelligence.
- drunkirish, on 07/15/2008, -2/+4How does the fact that McCain went to a service academy change the fact that he was drastically worse than his peers?
By that logic, you can't fault Bush for doing badly at Yale, because Ivy League schools are "NOTHING like a normal college."- bedlam, on 07/15/2008, -1/+5I like how Bush gets dragged into the conversation. And from what I understand, Ivy League schools aren't that different from other colleges except maybe in price.
- Rednik2011, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Ivies are the same in price as most private schools , they offer better financial aid though.
As for Bush, he is another example of somebody who got a chance to go to a good school (probably not of his own merit) and did terribly while there. - gfxlonghorn, on 07/16/2008, -3/+1@Rednik2011
You must be out of your damn mind if you think Ivys are the same price as public schools. My tuition is 9 grand a year at UT Austin. - roryk27, on 07/16/2008, -1/+0@gfxlonghorn
he said private schools, but for the education you get, it is totally overpriced
and class standing means nothing at the end of the day. it really isn't an indicator of intelligence or how well you will do in the world.
- aok1, on 07/15/2008, -3/+4I attended both the United States Military Academy and arguably the top ivy league school, and I can attest to the fact that "normal" college is NOTHING like a service academy. I was a mediocre student at best while at West Point, but I graduated at the top of my class after I transferred.
...but that doesn't change my opinion that McCain would make a poor president.- gfxlonghorn, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3How the hell did you transfer to "arguable the top ivy league school," if you were that bad of a student.
- aok1, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1GPA isn't the only factor that schools consider for admissions. The service academies are unique schools that simply aren't for everyone, and other colleges know this. Just because I didn't do well at USMA doesn't mean that I wouldn't do well at other schools where the academic environments are very different.
Plus, I had a near perfect SAT score, along with a couple perfect SAT II scores, and had graduated at the top of my HS class. I got into every school that I had applied to while in HS, and had proven myself through the congressional nomination process required for admission to USMA. So just because I had a few mediocre semesters at West Point didn't all of a sudden make me a poor candidate at other schools.
- caramba420, on 07/15/2008, -3/+0There is a difference between going to any serious school majoring in liberal arts, and majoring in a hard science. I would doubt that 10% of Annapolis grads would make it through the physics or math programs at Cal Tech
- gfxlonghorn, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1None, but what the ***** does math or physics have to do with running a country? I am an engineering major, and I can tell you for a fact that I would not be a good leader in anything beyond math/engineering field. If a person as the ability to win over the populous and can run things fairly well, who gives a ***** about math or science. Though McCain is still much too stupid to even qualify to do that.
- caramba420, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0I'll tell you what it has to do with running the country. Scientists created everything that lets us enjoy our way of life, but are undercompensated and talked down to by intellectual inferiors. Scientists are logical thinkers, tend to be pragmatic, and would be much suited to leading the world, except that they are lacking in the ambition and salesmanship required to trick stupid people into voting for them. So we get stuck with a system where the assholes that shuffle the chips around run the show. Great. What the ***** did hedge fund managers ever do advance civilization? Not a goddamn thing. The ruling class of securities/commodities traders, CEOs, and the politicians whose strings they pull are completely ***** worthless. They are an inefficiency in the system. Can a fund manager design a semiconductor, or compose a symphony, or write a program, or shed any light on particle physics, synthesize a new drug, or contribute anything whatsoever to society at all? No. They get filthy stinking rich off of the coattails of other people's intellect. It's ***** disgusting.
- ghsfr33d0m, on 07/15/2008, -3/+2Best friend is at the US Air Force Academy. I am a Biomedical Engineering major at the 2nd best college for engineering in the nation behind MIT. He has to work hard and everything but I still do a ***** ton more then he does. He is also in the middle of his class, I am 9th in my class.
I'm not giving McBush a break on this one b/c it was an Academy, he was still 884 out of 889. Thats completely unacceptable. Add on not knowing how to use a computer unassisted and its a disaster waiting to happen.- calcio0fan, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Do you go to Olin? Cooper Union? If so, no one outside of engineering cares, sorry.
- aok1, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3Hey caramba420,
You do realize that all service academies are engineering schools, right? In fact, West Point was the nation's first engineering school (source:www.usma.edu/bicentennial/history/FirstESchool.htm). Only recently have the academies expanded their curriculum to include more liberal arts classes, but they're all still very much engineering schools that rank among the best in the country. The only degrees granted by the service academies even today are bachelor of science degrees.
Physics is not only a required study for ALL cadets, but it's also one of the most popular majors across the academies. As far as math goes, the nation's most prestigious math competition, the William Lowell Putnam Competition, began as competition between USMA and Harvard, which the USMA cadets won decisively (source: www.dean.usma.edu/math/about/history/mathcomp.htm). But, then again, I wouldn't expect you to know what the Putnam Exam is.
So I'm sure most Annapolis grads (McCain being an exception) would fair just fine in any undergraduate physics or math programs at Cal Tech, but I know for a fact that 10% of Cal Tech undergraduates wouldn't be able to lead a platoon successfully in combat.
...i'm just sayin'
- baldr, on 07/15/2008, -6/+8clearly you have never been to Annapolis (the school McCain graduated from).
- jeremyadam, on 07/15/2008, -20/+13haha, you guys will take ANYTHING this man says and use it to discredit him. im not saying mccain is a great man but it doesn't change the fact that OBAMA is pro-socialism.(which is a bad thing)

- kayala, on 07/15/2008, -7/+14Why don't you tell us what socialism is, big guy? Clearly you failed your poli-sci class (or you never took one), so I'm looking forward to hearing what you think defines this legitimate political theory.

- colincornaby, on 07/15/2008, -7/+10I don't think you have a clue what socialism is. You just listen to the mouths on the right say it and you go "Limbaugh told me Obama is socialist to it must be true! Socialism is the evvvvilzzz!"
Obama isn't a socialist, he is very pro capitalism. Universal health care does not make one socialist (a government run health care plan does not eliminate private plans, nor does it mean public owned medal care). - richmomz, on 07/15/2008, -2/+5What does Obama's political stance have to do with McCain being retarded?
- jeremyadam, on 07/15/2008, -6/+1i certainly don't listen to news radio or even watch the news, but i know what socialism is....i was being overly dramatic about him being a socialist...but giving everyone money to have the american dream sounds pretty close to socialism to me. don't get all huffy puffy because i offended your OPINION on politics. he talks endlessly about hope and change but never says what it is...he's changed his mind a thousand times, jsut like mccain, and is just preying on your fears of haveing another republican president. he's very smart and knows how to manipulate, like a good politician...i agree with a lot of his views...but jeez, you guys take this ***** waaay too seriously....you'll see when your taxes go to paying for the crackhead down the street to get free healthcare everytime he overdoses
- kayala, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3That's not what it's about, jeremyadam. You and I can have differing opinions, that's fine. But when you start lying about a candidate, we have a problem. - gfxlonghorn, on 07/16/2008, -1/+4Yeah but McCain hardly ever reads while Lincoln read in his free time and became well educated on his own will. Not finishing school was a norm back then, and its not like he dropped out because he thought school was for suckas.

- blackinthmiddle, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4For the people who get into private universities based on things other than academic merit, passing is not an issue. Patrick Ewing also made it through Georgetown. You think that was due to academic abilities? Or the ability to put a ball through a hoop?
Why don't you look up the term "gentleman's c" and see what you get back?
- Diggnabbit, on 07/15/2008, -4/+7Since you got in due to nepotism.
- kierucom, on 07/15/2008, -16/+28Because we know that no one who has done poorly in school has ever done any good. Really.... even as an Obama supporter I have to roll my eyes at this.
- richmomz, on 07/15/2008, -3/+14That's *****. He's not applying for a job at the Post Office. He running for the freaking Presidency. To be at the helm of the most powerful nation that ever existed, I expect an individual of uncommonly high intelligence and work ethic at a MINIMUM. Someone who graduates 894 out of 899 in his class, from ANY school, is either mentally slow or incredibly lazy, and completely unfit for any position of national significance.
- dagnabbit, on 07/15/2008, -4/+9And because some percentage of poor students go on to be successful we should not consider someone's academic record when considering them to be President of the United States?
As an Obama supporter I hope people blast this quote from the ***** rooftops. Beats debating about ***** flag pins and who's "prouder" of their country. - blackinthmiddle, on 07/15/2008, -2/+5You're right. Academic performance is not always an indicator of how well you'll do "on the job". However, have you seen *anything* from McCain that would indicate intelligence? And don't say he went to West Point because he didn't get in based on academic ability.
- kierucom, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2You will never see me defend McCain as a viable Presidential candidate - I think he's a jackass who has nothing more to offer than an extension of Bush's policies under the guise of being more liberal.
But I cannot really put up with the association of Test Scores to Presidential viability... it just doesn't line up that neatly.

- Soave, on 07/16/2008, -2/+1Bill Gates dropped out of college.
- ispysomething, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Bill Gates himself - I repeat, himself - said that you shouldn't expect to be successful without college education.
- segrev, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Those people who performed poorly in school made up for it in some other way, and that's why we have heard of them. They proved their worthiness in ways like Einstein did with those with those three epochal papers, and Gates did with a revolutionary operating system. McCain was just born into opportunity.
- Chris1280, on 07/15/2008, -12/+5I hate to say it, but I kinda like this guy from that it is kinda intresting that he isnt this high up the ladder guy. Although a disclaimer I don't give a rats arse what you americans do so :D ( yes its Arse. I'm not refering to a donkey ).
- charm803, on 07/15/2008, -2/+1Is that really who you would want as someone who can effectively speak with other leaders from other countries?
Just because you want to have a beer with him doesn't mean he's the right man to fix our international relations, especially because he already wants to go "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran."
On an unrelated note, his wife looks like a troll.- goldenratiophi, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2actually a trollop

- Groovydoo, on 07/15/2008, -8/+1I can't stand the guy but I don't fault anyone for barely making it through college or high school. It likes faulting someone for finishing last in the Ironman triathlon or at the Olympics. What I do fault him for is not being trustworthy for he has changed positions so many times, I have no idea where he is right now on immigration, torture, and Iraq. Hence, his opinions/positions are to fluid to be President fopr my tastes

- jimmyisprollyth, on 07/15/2008, -20/+21can digg survive 20 minutes without a mccain bashing story. i dont even like him, but damn.
- thal3s, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Um, you may want to note that the President we pick this year could either save our country or be the nail in our coffin.
Nah, nothing important going on... >_

- revjustin2, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6This is slightly off topic, but people keep saying that voters tend to vote against those they claim to be elitist. I somewhat agree with that, but I think the key term there is "voters". It is imperative that people who aren't threatened by someone's intelligence to actually get out and vote. Vote. Vote. Vote. Don't give the privilege of electing the President to people who are afraid.
- tator13, on 07/15/2008, -10/+0Vote Nader!
- tehawesome531, on 07/15/2008, -5/+14Well, I was a bit surprised that he answered honestly. We've gotten used to him just lying lately.
- Fallout911, on 07/15/2008, -20/+11If you Obama ass ***** keep this ***** up I'm going to vote for McCain out of spite.
- chopstick2000, on 07/15/2008, -1/+10because that'll show em!
- Fallout911, on 07/15/2008, -5/+1In Florida it will so STFU.
- richmomz, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Wow we better shut up then!
- Fallout911, on 07/15/2008, -3/+2BS aside you guys are annoying as hell.
Obama is no better than McCain just look at his actual voting record and not his ***** infused speeches.

- LogicBomB, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6You'd have to be a moron to be proud of it.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7What's a VCR? It is something like a TiVo?
- matt.rubin, on 07/15/2008, -10/+17yeah at the United States Navel Academy good luck even getting into that school.
- Diggnabbit, on 07/15/2008, -2/+13Pfft. I got an A in Bellybutton Gazing at the Navel Academy.
(BTW, when you're father and grandfather were both, like, Admirals in the Navy, it's easier to get in.) - dagnabbit, on 07/15/2008, -3/+8Both his father and grandfather were Admirals - McCain wasn't getting rejected from that school just like Bush wasn't getting rejected from Yale.
ps - I see the other commenter has seen my screename and raised me +1. Touche, sir. - gfxlonghorn, on 07/16/2008, -2/+1He went to that school like 50 years ago, the standard wasn't exactly like it is now. Not to mention, like Diggnabit said, that he was a legacy.
