- Stevanoski, on 07/04/2008, -110/+15I wonder if Edwards love child will be there. Hmmm, he shows so much loyalty to wife, who suffered breast cancer set back, by relieving his wife of having to satisfy him. Quite a man. Would have made a great leader.
- EIderofzion, on 07/04/2008, -61/+7you mean FAG Jonh Edwards who uses his wife to defend him? Sadly ambulance chasers like John Edwards have destroyed the country.
- pianomahnn, on 07/05/2008, -1/+12And Rove is a shining example of morality and leadership?
- greenroom628, on 07/05/2008, -2/+3and john mccain is a wonderful example of exactly what you described.
- temsi, on 07/05/2008, -15/+91I see the GOP crowd is here first, throwing out their personal attacks.
Edwards is a talented litigator and can think on his feet. He will have a field day with Rove the war criminal.- Ricky81682, on 07/05/2008, -2/+46I don't think you want to get into a mud-slinging fight with Karl Rove. As they say, "never get into a fight with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig loves it."
- dagnome1984, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2But Karl Rove is a criminal genius.
- Ferretman, on 07/05/2008, -33/+4I'm afraid I saw no personal attack at all, just musings over Edwards' somewhat murky personal life.
Rove is a master strategist whereas Edwards is an ambulance chaser. He'll clean his clock if the debate is halfway fair.
Ferretman- wphj, on 07/05/2008, -0/+14"no personal attack" ---> "personal life"
- Gardimus, on 07/05/2008, -0/+11Karl Rove himself would be proud of such a post.
- OC73, on 07/05/2008, -29/+6"Edwards is a talented litigator and can think on his feet."
Yeah, right. That's why Cheney made him look like a rank amateur in the last election.- azAZ09, on 07/05/2008, -2/+2"That's why Cheney made him look like a rank amateur in the last election."
What? Did you even watch the debates? Your revisionism is showing.
On the whole the vice presidential debates were indecisive, leaning in slightly in Edwards favor.
Cheney just arrogantly gave short abrupt answers to policy questions that put him on the spot, as if he were standing on principle when he was clearly being evasive. Then acted all offended when Edwards torpedoed his the gay marriage cultural wedge issue, by pointing out how the personal hypocrisy of how he felt about his daughter.
Cheney was clearly more comfortable in the role of "bad-guy" at the debates, and I guess he did a more successful job of creating a memorable impression with a colorful pronunciation of "inaccuracies" (without addressing the actual inaccuracies), but Cheney did not make him "look like a rank amateur".
Granted, Vice-Presidential debates are difficult to judge. The closest comparison would be a contest in creating art from manure, and criticizing the other candidates pile. Maybe Cheney had more to raw material work with, but your supposition of dominance is "in--ACK--er--et"
- azAZ09, on 07/05/2008, -2/+2"That's why Cheney made him look like a rank amateur in the last election."
- conmulligan, on 07/05/2008, -6/+19Tear him apart, John.
- Hawk2007, on 07/05/2008, -15/+3WTF?
Wow temsi, you're a thin skinned person and complete hypocrite considering any pro-obamania or anti-mccain articles brings out the worst of people. - BroncoKid, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5That's my school! and it's University AT Buffalo, not OF. They're two different schools. I actually took a class with professor Dyck listed in the article. worst. professor. ever. Either way though, I'm pumped about this, sounds like it should be a fun debate to watch.
- dakbonsa, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Shouldn't Rove be in jail by then?
- redchina, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1Are you serious? Cheney completely owned Edwards in the 2004 VP debate. Karl Rove is going remind us again why Edwards has absolutely no political future.
- Ricky81682, on 07/05/2008, -2/+46I don't think you want to get into a mud-slinging fight with Karl Rove. As they say, "never get into a fight with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig loves it."
- DD2CC2U, on 07/05/2008, -7/+48Subjects of debate should be: FISA, Constitutional Law, Politics within the Justice Department, Putting a Governor in Jail by bringing up false charges against him, Ethics and lying, outing a CIA agent, etc.

- TomPlansMedia, on 07/05/2008, -14/+47edwards would be an awesome attorney general
- rz8472, on 07/05/2008, -6/+3Seeing how Obama is faring in the general campaign season, I'm starting to wish he were the nominee.
- RamsesII, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3It's funny that he's debating Rove, as he'll quite probably be investigating him once he's Attorney General (a position which I think he's pretty much a lock for).
- spamcrusher, on 07/05/2008, -4/+57This could be interesting. Like Karl Rove or not, he's a very intelligent man and he knows his *****. Edwards is also a smart guy with a lot of political experience. Unlike the boring, scripted presidential debates we will be forced to watch this might be good.
- kosmoX, on 07/05/2008, -0/+12I agree. I'm not a fan of Rove or Edwards, but it should be interesting to watch.
- provost, on 07/05/2008, -1/+7I heard that it was supposed to be this month, but it had to delay because Rove had to make an emergency trip to oversee the final completion of the Death Star personally. So I guess i can wait a few more months.
- oldgal, on 07/06/2008, -2/+2"knows his *****" - ***** is the operative word here.
- OC73, on 07/05/2008, -28/+11Rove is going to make minced meat out of the empty-headed Jack Tripper lookalike.

- tidu, on 07/05/2008, -2/+10This applies to the Presidential race as well
- xcheats, on 07/05/2008, -5/+2Minus the handsome part.
- AllYourBase3, on 07/05/2008, -3/+4except more people thought nixon won the debate. he just looked terrible on TV. People who listened on the radio thought Nixon one, people who watched it on TV gave it to JFK because of how nixon looked
- Gemfinder, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Nixon wasn't balding.
He is now, though.
- kolinkoolface2, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4and who won?

The adults are interested.- schnikies79, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1No, it will be boring because it's a useless debate, and sorry, I don't play video games. Thanks though.
What exactly will come from this? Debate for the sake of debate is somewhat useless. - temsi, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1"Debate for the sake of debate is somewhat useless."
I think you just proved that point.

Ferretman- kiubo, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I never understood this. Why do people sign their posts?
- Albumen, on 07/05/2008, -9/+35I'm surprised Rove agreed to it. This is going to cut into the time he normally uses to pull the wings off of flies.
- xGORDOx, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1He agreed because, let's face it, he's gonna mop the floor with Edwards.
Rove isn't Rove because he's stupid.
- xGORDOx, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1He agreed because, let's face it, he's gonna mop the floor with Edwards.
- kanvas, on 07/05/2008, -4/+11I would like nothing more than to see somebody bitch slap (and then imprison) Karl Rove, but Edwards is weak. Remember his debate with Dick Cheney?
- Akairenn, on 07/05/2008, -3/+2Yes. I was taking bets on how long it would take for the throbbing artery on Cheney's forehead to pop. No such luck, I ended up out $60. Edward slaughtered Cheney, which isn't hard when your opponent can only quack like a duck.
Rove, however, is going to slaughter Edwards. I think that Edwards does not understand the power of the Dark Side of the Force.

Just watch 'em poll numbers fall faster than a flamin' meteor. - ericjohnson0, on 07/05/2008, -8/+16The debate I want to see is Primary Obama versus General Election Obama... that would be great!
http://thesaloon.net/blog/_archives/2008/7/3/37735 ...- cronian, on 07/05/2008, -1/+7What about post-election Obama? Who is that?
- SteveIsTheDude, on 07/05/2008, -3/+2That would be President Obama. Is that what you were looking for?
- geek4x4, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1Why not, we can already see McCain debate himself
http://youtube.com/watch?v=GEtZlR3zp4c- TheInformer, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3But Obama's myrmidons poke their heads in the sand when contradictory Obama information appears. Contradictory McCain information is trumpted by the myrmidons.
- cronian, on 07/05/2008, -1/+7What about post-election Obama? Who is that?
- McSmif, on 07/05/2008, -3/+5It should be a very interesting debate. That said, I don't think it's really fair to subscribe to the "he's going to get his ass handed to him" school of partisanship. Clearly, Edwards and Rove are both very intelligent and successful men. It just so happens that only one of them had to brutally sacrifice a short bus full of little girls to achieve said success.
- KJSatz, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Which one?
- Naieve, on 07/05/2008, -19/+8I'm not a fan of Rove, but it's funny how you guys are saying Republicans attack dogs are out while calling Rove a War Criminal.
Pot calling the kettle black. - phillykid162, on 07/05/2008, -4/+10Any political science professor worth his salt will make his/her students watch this. Karl Rove is a political evil, depending on who you ask, genius and might just mop the floor with Edwards. However, Edwards is a smart, experienced politician who will now how to act when the cameras are on.
Will watch... - grantmoore3d, on 07/05/2008, -2/+8At first I thought they were talking about the John Edwards who did that Crossing Over show... you know... Biggest Douche in the Universe
- SteveIsTheDude, on 07/05/2008, -5/+2Same name... Different Douche's
- aserdaten, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Not sure whether it's worse to exploit people who are grieving over the loss of loved ones or people who are struggling with having children born disabled or with special needs. (If you're not familiar with SEN. John Edwards' legal career, do some reading 'coz it ain't pretty.) Either way - douchebag.
- uselessexpert, on 07/05/2008, -1/+10Whatever the case may be, if Karl Rove wants to come out of this debate looking good, just don't let him rap!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln5RD9BhcCo
That is still edge in my mind!- ATLien74, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Well he wasn't rapping, he was just saying his name. The guy that WAS rapping made Kevin Federline look like Jay-Z though.
Also, that black guy on stage with them maybe the whitest black man in the history of the world.
My eyes are burning and my ears hate me now. Thanks.

- kolinkoolface2, on 07/05/2008, -9/+3i hate to say it but.....Rove will win just because he has way more experience then Edwards and he has been around for quite some time.
- Gardimus, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6I don't know if Rove is more experienced at debate. Rove is a strategist, and isn't usually required to think on his feet.
- RamsesII, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Edwards was a world famous trail lawyer. He's good at this *****.
- kolinkoolface2, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1yea i heard he did well on the oregon trail.
- RationalXubrnce, on 07/05/2008, -2/+7 Rove has shown he is smart, it will be interesting to see how he performs on the fly against the polished Edwards. Rove is probably brighter but can he think in the moment against t a more charming and media savvy opponent?
- shupy, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1Rove isn't smart, he is cunning. There is a difference.Rove's talent is deception and manipulation.
But Edwards is a trial attorney. When it comes to making points, he was made for the job. I do hope Rove gets his ass handed to him.- RationalXubrnce, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1 Somantics, Rove is an incredibly smart guy. Is it possible to be a stupid person who is so cunning you can outperform some of the smartest people in Washington?

Rove will destroy him. How much is Edwards spending on his haircuts these days? He is quite a dandy.
- captainkeene, on 07/05/2008, -3/+11Better to get rich off frivolous lawsuits than the blood and tears of american soldiers and iraqi civilians.

- MikeFallopian, on 07/05/2008, -0/+8I never much liked either Rove or Edwards, but I feel strangely compelled to watch this - probably because they'll be arguing the issues, rather than the dumb fluff that has dominated the presidential campaign.

- lewwelch, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2Rove can call it in from his prison cell.
- bjornski, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5There's that whole "oath" thing that Karl doesn't like.

- novenator, on 07/05/2008, -3/+3Karl Rove in a public forum? I call shenanigans. He is the shadow master, working in dark, smoke filled rooms behind the scenes. If the propaganda-minister really does come out from under his rock, Edwards will expose who he really is and what he has done to the world. Of course, there may be debate 'guidelines' such as no questions about ___, no equal time to rebut, an artificially conservative moderator panel, etc. that could tilt the balance back into the rovian camp. Still, Edwards is dynamic enough that I think this will be a treat.
- bassjam5, on 07/05/2008, -6/+1It's not going to happen! Rove will back out at the last moment using a butt cyst as an excuse.
- DavyDuke17, on 07/05/2008, -5/+3Sweet, as a UB student I'll be able to go to this.
- TheInformer, on 07/05/2008, -4/+7Edwards has Rove beat in the hair department. Can't remember the last $400 haircut that Rove had.
- shupy, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Well if he had much hair, he would. But the difference is the media wouldn't bother to make a big issue of it.
Who cares what Rove does?
- shupy, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Well if he had much hair, he would. But the difference is the media wouldn't bother to make a big issue of it.
- tatinthehat, on 07/05/2008, -7/+2The sad part of this is you know even if Edwards does trounce Rove, Rove will turn it into a pissing match anyways.
Neocons always love to do this... :( - Sarcasmooo, on 07/05/2008, -5/+4I think the biggest myth in modern American politics must be that Karl Rove is an intelligent man. I'm an independent, and not at all fervently anti-republican, but you know what ladies and gentlemen? Surrounding yourself with people of a like-minded world-view is a little like trying to sharpen a sword by throwing it into a pile with other swords. Karl Rove couldn't even bring himself to argue with Sheryl Crow at the press club event. SHERYL CROW for christ's sake. He's weak-minded and full of hyperbole. I'm not saying Edward's will wipe the floor with him, but I am saying that his only skill will be in deflecting all rational thought the same way he has (from behind the curtains) for the last 8 years; nationalistic hyperbole.
- MaXPL, on 07/05/2008, -3/+2WOOOOOO GO UB. I'm graduating in December.
- DuffyDirect, on 07/05/2008, -4/+1its SUNY Buffalo, not "University of Buffalo"
- themoox, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1It's actually the "University at Buffalo, The State University of New York" ... SUNY Buffalo/SUNYAB was phased out a while ago... "University at Buffalo" is how the university refers to itself.
- DuffyDirect, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1That just sounds like how RPI refers to itself at "Rensselaer" even though *everyone* calls it RPI. I've never been to any place in NY where they called the local SUNY anything but SUNY or just like "Fredonia" "brockport" "geneseo" etc. Mine is University at Albany officially, but no one calls it that. It's just SUNY or sometimes UAlbany. I went to Geneseo for undergrad and everyone there I knew from Buffalo just called it SUNY Buffalo. I remember it being really confusing sometimes because you wouldn't know if they were talking about the university or the college...
- themoox, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0Yeah, for some reason UB has to be "different" these days... But they brand everything "UB" or "University at Buffalo". It is no less a part of the SUNY system than any of the other school your listed... but no one really refers to it as such. They like to bury the "The State University of New York" part in small print, too...
I'm employed by the "SUNY Research Foundation" -- but my campus is "University at Buffalo." It's bizarre and I don't even pretend to understand.
And that college/university thing is absolutely fantastic for those that do call it "SUNY Buffalo" -- to confuse it with the "SUNY College at Buffalo." Argh! - equallyunequal, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1The most confusing part is that there is "University at Buffalo: State University of New York" (UB) and not far away "Buffalo State College: State University of New York" (Buff. State). Which are separate schools both under the same university system
- corripio, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Yup, you are correct. They changed that like 7 or 8 years ago when I was there. If you brought your resume in to be critiqued, that was the first thing they pointed out to everyone. Which is sort of silly, but I suppose also important since you should at least know the name of the school you went to.
- MaXPL, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1its University at Buffalo.

- Renostyle, on 07/05/2008, -7/+2Its funny that the same people who are saying Rove will mop the floor with Edwards are the same people that for the life of them cannot say one damn thing about any issue. They can't even comment on Digg without slinging mud. They can't name even one potential issue that Rove could debate and win. They can't anything other than a personal attack on Edwards. That's all they got.
That will work if the auditorium is full of 6 year olds or snakes.
