Iraq PM retracts support for Obama, but damage done

No matter how the words are parsed, the bottom line is clear: Iraq wants the U.S. to develop a timeline for getting the troops OUT of Iraq. No amount of spin is going to change that.
This is clearly what Obama has been saying we should do, while McCain just keeps inventing new excuses for why we need to stay in Iraq. - HeartlandUSA, on 07/20/2008, -1/+15This is clearly Republicans covering their asses with BS lies, again.
CENTCOM fired all non-Bush loyalists in March, 1100 of them, ONE-THIRD of their staff in their largest cut in history. This was at the same time they pushed Admiral Fallon out for blocking an Iran attack.

In Baghdad, however, the chief spokesman for al-Maliki issued a statement Sunday saying the prime minister's comments were "not conveyed accurately" by Germany's Der Spiegel magazine.
Spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said al-Maliki did not endorse a specific timetable but instead discussed a "an Iraqi vision" of U.S. troop withdrawals based on negotiations with Washington and "and in the light of the continuing positive developments on the ground."
In the interview, al-Maliki said he was not seeking to endorse Obama.
Sadiq al-Rikabi, an adviser to al-Maliki, said later that Iraqi officials do not intend to be "part of the electoral campaign in the United States."
"We will deal with any administration that comes to power," he said.

- swrostmore, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Maliki never had any "support for Obama" to retract. He very clearly stated in the original interview that he wasn't supporting either candidate and that it was not his place to interfere in U.S. politics. All he said was that he prefers Obama's Iraq policy to McCains. And he has not retracted that.
