- Tenney20, on 02/08/2008, -5/+38Everyone has been wondering, where did Hillary Clinton get so much money. This article starts the investigation. It will only get more interesting.
- scenerio, on 02/08/2008, -9/+3Whats wrong with making money? We live in a capitalistic society. Oh naivete.
- deanlowe, on 02/08/2008, -6/+2The Huffington Post?
Seriously?? - Duffeh, on 02/08/2008, -0/+7Obama fan here.
That said: This article is rubbish that fails to start anything other than wasteful, and USELESS innuendo. There are only really two valid points the article makes:
1 - Yes, it is highly likely that the Clinton finances may not be illegal, but dubious enough to warrant a pause before voting.
2 - These are the Clinton's, republicans hate them more than they hate terrorists. They will spare no expense when digging through the Clinton trash cans, they will find the dubious, juicy bits that have molded over. They will set their noise machine in motion. It will not be pretty.
I am not saying vote for Obama because you don't want to stomach the Republicans V Clintons kind of partisan nonsense for several more years.
Just don't be a tool. - TheBogie, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3So far in her campaign, Hilliary has proven she will lie (see her comments about her own experience) and cheat (campaigning in Michigan and Florida against DNC rules).
The only thing left for her to do is steal. It is only a matter of time before we find out what shady place that 5 million came from. - mightydavefish, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1This is only valid if we also look into how the GOP candidates got their fortunes.
- snex, on 02/08/2008, -2/+0What about a tiny 500 billions stashed in the Children’s Defense Fund? This is a bit on the conspiracy theorist side, but nonetheless interesting:
"Don’t forget that Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush were good friends and that his brother, Jonathan Bush, and his Riggs Bank helped both Bill and Hilary, as well as other members of the Bush family steal half a trillion dollars from the Children’s Defense Fund, laundering it through Crozier Bank in Grenada.”

When Barack Obama said yesterday that we can expect Republicans to find a "whole dump truck" of dirt on Hillary, he knew what he was talking about. She just pumped $5 million worth of fuel into its tank.

And this surprises who? The bubba & shrillary show might as well have a patent on "sleazy" - both the concept and the practice. - underdugg, on 02/08/2008, -0/+25FOLLOW THE MONEY:
* In charity and politics, Clinton donors overlap

* The $31million Kazahk/Uranium-related donation to the Clinton Foundation:

(That's a big pot of money to be stirring around... Why, some dollars might get fall out the sides!)

* Here's the net wealth of each candidate:
http://thinkonthesethings.wordpress.com/2007/12/10 ...- Dingoboy, on 02/08/2008, -0/+7The net wealth really drive home the fact the Obama is the little guy fighting the good fight. Most home owners in CA have a net worth similar to Obama's. (well at least they use to before the housing bubble)
- orca94, on 02/08/2008, -0/+10Damn, Obama's net worth is about 6 times less than the second smallest one on the list. (And yes that's a positive in my mind)
- defwheezer, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1At the end of the money trail is the true power base driving US politics (Bush+Clinton+McCain):

- Indyanna, on 02/08/2008, -6/+15Well, well, well. Take a look at this. After 16 years of venerating St. Bill and St. Hillary, legions of Democrats are just now catching on to the fact that the Clintons have questionable financial dealings. Right when they've got their golden boy Obama running for president. What are the odds?
- bliz, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1Well, there's nothing wrong in pointing out someone's misdeed at a convenient time. If it's wrong, there's nothing wrong about pointing it out regardless of the time. Not pointing out that something is wrong as soon as possible does suggest abetment, however it is not necessarily the case since there's always a different urgency and priority of things at times.

- jamesalfaro, on 02/08/2008, -0/+16Bill Clinton raked in $113 million for arranging $3 billion Uranium mining deal with a dictator from Kazakhstan.
Just months after the Kazakh pact was finalized, Mr. Clinton’s charitable foundation received its own windfall: a $31.3 million donation from Frank Giustra that had remained a secret until he acknowledged it last month. The gift, combined with Mr. Giustra’s more recent and public pledge to give the William J. Clinton Foundation an additional $100 million, secured Mr. Giustra a place in Mr. Clinton’s inner circle. Mrs. Clinton co-signed a commission letter to the State Department that sounded “alarm bells” about the prospect that Kazakhstan might head the group. The letter stated that Kazakhstan’s bid “would not be acceptable,” citing “serious corruption,” canceled elections and government control of the news media. In December 2005, Kazakhstan’s president, Nursultan A. Nazarbayev won another election, which the security organization itself said was marred by an “atmosphere of intimidation” and “ballot-box stuffing.” After Mr. Nazarbayev won with 91 percent of the vote, Mr. Clinton sent his congratulations.

- msk275, on 02/08/2008, -1/+4I've said it before, I'll say it again... Hillary is shady!
No denying that fact. - dogslayeggs, on 02/08/2008, -2/+17If Hillary gets office, it will mean that our nation has been lead by 2 families for 28 years.... WTF!
- DeePsix501, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3Sad isn't it?
- dogslayeggs, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Im crying as we speak :) but seriously, its very sad...
- jerbaker, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2What's more sad is that you can't even do math. That would be one family for 24 years. You see 2012 - 1988 != 28.

This is called "working with industry." It is the kind of government you can expect from 8 years of a Clinton administration. - RRJackson, on 02/08/2008, -6/+1Obama's people are running a full-on smear campaign against Senator Clinton. The notable thing is that Clinton's people are not pushing any negative stories about Obama.
- underdugg, on 02/08/2008, -3/+1you mean, like Obama = Reagan?
or: Obama is anti-choice?
or: Obama has no experience?
Worse, it was the Clintons, themselves, saying these things, first -- and then their supporters.- drachasor, on 02/08/2008, -1/+2He has a point though, Clinton's people aren't pushing any credible negative stories about Obama. Possibly because there aren't any of significant substance.

- maiku00, on 02/08/2008, -0/+5Barack and Michelle have only just finished paying their student loans. They use it as an example of how ridiculously expensive an education is. Mind you, Barack has had TWO best selling books.
- koft, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1their spending priorities were skewed. Most people can pay of the loans fairly quickly with discipline if they choose to. But most people just pay the minimum, live beyond their means and pay 4 times over to the lending agencies when they just didn't have to go that route.
- Starman97, on 02/09/2008, -0/+0If the interest rate is low enough on the loan, why not keep the money in your own investments that make more return?
Education loans used to have very low interest rates. It made good financial sense to pay them off over the full term.

It just strikes me as an interested observer that she is not only sleazy, but she's also incredibly divisive - people have an instinctive reaction towards her, and it's either overwhelmingly positive, or utter loathing. I don't see how that benefits the US as a whole - you've had a divisive ***** at the helm for 8 years, and look how well that's worked.
- thestaton, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1I choose utter loathing.
