- OlivierNO, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Let's change the rules, here's how we should decide for the democratic nominee:
1. See how candidates do only in the so-called "swing states" OH, PA, WV, since these are what you need to win the general. Of course, as things never change, we could only have people vote in those 3 states since they have always made the difference. Maybe we can consider MI and FL... depending on other factors.
2. Check the polls in April for a general election that will take place in November, and decide who is more "electable".
3. If the most famous/establishment candidate say he/she is the strongest, that means he/she IS the strongest. We have to believe him/her, and go for it.
4. If, by any chance, the underdog is ahead in all other metrics (pledged delegates, number of states won, popular vote and superdelegates) just ignore it or downplay it by highlighting the weaknesses. Indeed, it is clear that for an underdog to deserve a chance, he/she should have unanimous support, or nothing.
Finally, if a Clinton is in the race, just give him/her automatically the nomination.... well... automatically the job. After all, they are Clintons!
How can people swallow this??
Oh wait...!! They don't!! Obama is ahead according to the REAL rules! - lopwise2, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1One crazy response to the exit polls of West Virginia Exit Polls is who will you vote for in November, Obama or McCain and by a margin of 51% to 28 % the voters of West Virginia stated that they would vote for Obama. If they were telling the truth, then Obama should win West Virginia in November, 2008. I said if because the overwhelming number of voters in West Virginia’s primary voted against the person that they said they would vote for in the general election. Something just doesn’t add up. If you are going to vote for Obama in the general election, why aren’t you voting for him in the primary? Could it have been a sense of loyalty to the Clintons? Could it have been just to wreak havoc in the democratic presidential primary? I have no logical explanation for it; and therefore, it is just a crazy response either in the democratic primary or to the general election poll question.
Consequently, it appears that the primary election results of the West Virginia has no bearing on whether Obama will carry the state in November, 2008; that is, if you believe the exit polls.- IconoclastStill, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1People routinely lie in exit polls - one of the reasons they are carefully vetted for projections and still fail.
