True conservatives believe in among other things, small government, unalienable rights, individual liberty, sound monetary policy, limited international entanglements, and justifiable uses of our defense. - jae1227, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12----------------GO VOTE FOR RON PAUL RIGHT NOW!!!!----------------

- burtonbe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30For the people wondering more about Ron Paul, he's more of a Libertarian than a Republican.
From his MySpace Page:
Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record
* He has never voted to raise taxes.
* He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
* He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
* He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
* He has never taken a government-paid junket.
* He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
* He voted against the Patriot Act.
* He voted against regulating the Internet.
* He voted against the Iraq war.
* He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
* He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year. - KMye, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2For honest curiosity's sake, can anyone inform me how a "Libertarian" candidate justifies being pro-life and anti RvW? Is it a states' rights justification or what?
- jollybfd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5In response to KYMe, Ron Paul believes that it is not within the federal government's powers to legislate abortion one way or another. That is in the realm of personal responsibility.
- KMye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8the realm of individual states you mean, right?
- nokla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4KMye said "the realm of individual states you mean, right?"
Yes, currently each state has a statute on murder (for example). Each state determines the specific situations and acts that constitute murder. It may seem cut and dried to a novice (murder is the same everywhere - right?) but for an example of the differences, just compare justifiable homicide laws in Ohio and Florida. In Florida, citizens can use lethal force against an attacker in public places. In Ohio citizens have a "duty to flee" an attacker (an idea that dates back to sword fights in England and is impractical since the advent of firearms).
So, just as different states have different views on what constitutes justifiable homicide (an issue where the residents of a state decide on the sanctity of life) it makes sense, especially from a constitutional standpoint, that each state should decide where they believe life begins and whether or not abortion laws in their state should favor the rights of the fetus or the rights of the mother.

Ron Paul steps into national spotlight
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 4, 2007
ARLINGTON, VA – Congressman Ron Paul finished first in the MSNBC poll following the GOP primary debate last night held at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California. Dr. Paul received 43 percent, beating the second-place finisher by five points, and crushing the rest of the field.
"Last night, Americans met Ron Paul and loved what they heard," said Ron Paul 2008 campaign chairman Kent Snyder. "Dr. Paul's message of freedom and limited government resonates with Republicans hungry for a return to their party’s core values."
"Ron Paul is the only true conservative in the GOP race. Americans saw that last night," continued Snyder. "The campaign looks forward to further debates and opportunities so even more Americans will discover Dr. Paul's message of freedom, peace and prosperity." - interpaul, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Dr. Ron Paul is a 10th-term Congressman, Veteran, flight surgeon, and a medical doctor specializing in obstetrics and has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He has earned the nickname "Dr. No" for voting against any bill he believes violates the Constitution; In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the "one exception to the Gang of 535" on Capitol Hill.
Check this out:
He's never voted to raise taxes.
He's never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war
NOTE: Paul is the ONLY Rep. candidate to vote against Iraq. Clinton, Biden, Hagel, Edwards, etc. voted for and has since flip flopped like John Kerry...which cost him the 2004 Election.
As if these salient points aren't enough, Ron Paul wants to:
- Bring our troops home from Iraq & end the war
- Secure our borders from terrorism
- Stop illegal immigration & no amnesty for illegal immigrants
- Get rid of the IRS for fairer taxes for you
- Limit big government in your private affairs & lives

I'm so sick of this EVIL that runs this country and this Orwellian state we are living in VOTE RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT it gives me comfort in knowing that there is still hope for our country and this election will be the most important election in HISTORY we have to stand up this is what our liberties stand for and they are at stake THERE IS EVIL and the bible even tell us that the beast will rise from the sea (a group of people/ POLITICS) this is REAL people we have to realize that the next evil in the world wont be a Hitler like fascism this is a age of technology exploding and the new fascism comes with mind control its in the t.v. its everywhere you go we are all subliminally being told what to do and we sit here and watch our enemies take over our OWN government!!

- nokla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7cGt2099 - So far Obama hasn't said anything. He's easy to like. Paul has laid his cards on the table throughout his entire career. We know what we're getting. Obama's record doesn't even remotely compare to Paul's. For one, Obama voted to renew the Patriot Act. That alone should disqualify any sane person from supporting him.
- Mik1984, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@dshpls,
Does somebody pay you for doing this?
No?
What a pity :o
That means you are simply hopelessly dumb!

- jeanette3654, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14burtonbe:
Ron Paul also refused the bloated stretch limo they offered him to arrive at the debate in favor of a smaller low key vehicle. I remember years ago seeing a story that featured the mega Mercedes Benz, Beammers and Lincolns etc all the congress critters had parked in their parking spots. Then they had a photo of Dr. Paul's wheels in his parking spot side by side next to all these other bazillion dollar rides! It was a pale green Ford mid size of some kind, don't remember the model. His reason for this was the fact that we pay for their wheels and he wanted something that was reliable, and fuel efficient and no more!!!!! That's how Dr. Paul first came to my attention and it's just been uphill from there! - dukeeeey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17America needs to choose the next president very carefully. We simply can not have another Bush or Clinton in power.
Ron Paul 2008 !! - jmgregory, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I read the transcript earlier and appreciated it, but wow, he is so much more compelling when you actually hear the conviction in his voice!
- eichenlaub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Dr. Paul pwned the other candidates as the only true conservative vying for the position of POTUS.
As a member of the LP, if he got the nom, I'd proudly vote Republican for the first time in my life.- nokla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4cGt2099 - Bill Richardson is probably the closest thing the Dems have to a libertarian. Considering that the the Republicans have a bonafide libertarian party member running in Ron Paul, and a whole field of libertarian party candidates, it's going to take a little more effort on the part of Democrats when it comes to respecting our right to self ownership. If you're really interested in discussion of who the most libertarian candidate is from a Democrat's standpoint, just go here: http://freedomdemocrats.org/node/1469
Even as Democrats they prefer Paul over Richardson though. My wife is more of a left-libertarian (she was raised by a whole family of staunch Dems) so I'm aware that his positions on immigration and abortion are not ideal on the face of it. As I recall, John Kerry had the same view that the federal government shouldn't dictate the legality of abortion and that it should be left up to the states, so it'd be silly for anyone who supported Kerry to reject Paul on that issue.
As for immigration, we live in a nation of laws. If the people genuinely believe our laws to be too strict with regard to immigration then we should change them (many Dems are tough on immigration due to their protectionist instincts toward blue-collar workers). Paul would not preside over massive round-ups of illegals, he'd just take away the incentives for breaking the law by removing their federally funded entitlements.

- ChrisDoucette, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I wouldn't vote democrat. I don't think there are any candidates in both parties that are better than Ron Paul.
Ron Paul is simply the best choice. - 1nflux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Ron Paul is the man. Elected to represent the people, and actually doing it, not in it for his or big businesses interests. I salute him and what he stands for, but I am afraid the United States is too far gone for the majority of people to see that Ron Paul is the only kind of leader that can save their country.
- BrotherButch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10 It's important. Ron Paul 2008.
In your heart you know he's right... - antiNWO28, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9at last a man who will restore some pride
- Drew07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9He has my vote...though I missed the debate last night but from this recap clip...seems he came off really really strong and positive. I've decided to vote for Ron Paul MONTHS ago when I first heard about him and did research on him. I believe if he wins this election....America will go back to it's proper form rather this war state.

Actually, I did call; they insist Dr. Paul is in if he shows up. The lady that answered the phone was
REALLY pissed, so I'm not the only caller. Dr. Paul paid his Debate fee, and will be there. - nokla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If it weren't so common for groups to shaft and censor legitimate candidates then this sort of backlash wouldn't happen. Can't fault people for being proactive. If SC GOP were smart, they should turn on their southern charm and try to get donations from the callers for Ron Paul and the rest of the SC GOP. Bush 2 carried on Clinton's agenda. When it costs a half a billion to run a presidential campaign, Candidates turn to the money sources: Multinational Conglomerates. These contribute rs own the banks, the newspapers, Television and Radio. They also own the arms manufactures, the shipyards, and everything else. Whose bidding are these candidates going to be beholden to?
Investigate Ron Paul if you dare! His only backing is the people. He scares the crap out of the establishment Military industrial complex. As president he would have the power to reverse much the un-constitutional advances these globalists have shoved down the peoples throats over the last 3/4 of a century. Wonder why none of the media covers him? Why was his name taken off ABC's poll of last nights debate.
If you want four more years of the same ***** that we have been seeing for decades, vote for anyone! Democrat or Republican no matter. They will just keep following the script that their masters have written for them to perform.
