Giuliani associated with crooked opportunists, unqualified to be President
democracynow.org — An interview with Wayne Barrett, author of “Grand Illusion: The Untold Story of Rudy Giuliani and 9/11", shows how crooked and deceitful Giuliani is, his opportunism, his anti-terrorism facade, his poor decision making ability, and just how bad a president he would be.

Giuliani's pick to be NYC Police Chief was recently charged with serious corruption crimes. This police chief had qualification deficiencies.
Giuliani made dozens of poor decisions ... such as the location of their emergency response command center, locating it within a known terrorist target center (in WTC7). Since the command center had been destroyed it impaired the city's response on Sep 11, 2001 and contributed to the confusion.
The radio system used by NYC doesn't allow cross communication between agencies. This deficiency was noted after the 1993 WTC bombing, and Giuliani did nothing about it, and it contributed to the confusion on Sep 11, 2001. More of the first responders could have escaped had they been able to hear the evacuation orders, but they didn't hear the order because of the deficient radio system.- MisterEX, on 11/16/2007, -11/+3Mistakes are most easily pointed out after they happen.
- MacEnvy, on 11/16/2007, -2/+14Yeah, but most of these were also pointed out to the Mayor's office BEFORE they became an issue on 9/11, and were ignored. It kind of takes the wind out of Giuliani's "look what I did to protect NYC" argument.
- norman619, on 11/16/2007, -8/+3How? He didn't do what he says he did during 911?
- MacEnvy, on 11/16/2007, -2/+15He didn't do ***** before or after 9/11. Standing on rubble does not a leader make.

- bratpack8, on 11/16/2007, -2/+6If it's those two, I'm either not going to bother voting in this sham or write in Ron Paul.

- JoeVet, on 11/16/2007, -5/+3Just because the front runners of the two major parties are not ideal is no reason to vote for a clear lunatic who's goal is the total trashing of our current system of government. What we really need is leadership to get our government back to serving the people. We don't need to completely dismantle it.
- jjacksonRIAB, on 11/16/2007, -0/+3The problem I see is that people keep voting along party lines instead of choosing the right man for the job *at the time*. Right now our government is too big because both parties keep increasing its size and scope. What we need for now is someone who will keep saying no to the pork and taxpayer fleecing, and to really put a dent in it would take longer than 4 years.
But instead of choosing our leaders wisely we're more interested in the bandwagon stereotyped approach. Let's just keep in perspective that the presidental term is only 4 years, and the president is not a monarch. RP couldn't possibly dismantle the system in that amount of time, but at least he could prove a worthy check against our currently unrestrained Congress.

It is really terribly written and reasoned. "Why hasn't he given back contributions from racists?"... because he would have to screen every person that donated to him, and that is pointless.
For *****'s sake people, if you don't like Ron Paul, why don't you mention his positions? Bring up things like his wanting to dismantle government programs, get rid of Income Tax, pull out of Iraq, etc. Bring some real points to the table, not this "he is supported by racists" *****.

- sazai, on 11/16/2007, -2/+3Not supporting Israel doesn't make you racist. Blaming the entire black community because 1/3 of their men are in jail is.
- imacoder, on 11/16/2007, -2/+1It is the compass' nature to point north.
- Humptydank, on 11/16/2007, -1/+2Would you expand on that? It sounds interesting.
- imacoder, on 11/16/2007, -2/+1It is the compass' nature to point north.
- Humptydank, on 11/16/2007, -1/+2Why should the Jewish influence be out of our foreign policy? There are 4 million Jews in this country.
There are 2.5 million Episcopalians like me in the US, yet 11 out of 43 US Presidents have been my faith, and 43 out of 43 have been my ethnicity. That's much more suspect regarding secret influence than anything related to Jews.
We set up a system of access to our government that I feel is flawed, but for now everyone with money has access to it. AIPAC, an organization frequently singled out by the "Jewish cabal" crowd that is, for all intents and purposes, a lobbying organization, has a total operating budget reported to be between 13 and 15 million dollars.
In contrast, AARP *spent* $36 million just on lobbying efforts in 2005. In just 2006, the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association, and the American Pharmaceutical Manufacturer's Association together spent $55.3 million dollars on lobbying efforts.
Not counting AIPAC (because they're not a registered lobbying firm), pro-Israel lobbying spending's biggest year was 2005, where four groups, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the American Jewish Committee, the American Jewish Congress, and the Zionist Organization of America, together managed to rack up only $2.4 million.
Add that to AIPACs efforts, probably substantial, but we'll give them credit for, say, $10 million, and is that this overwhelming Jewish influence everyone is focused on?
An approximately $12.4 million+ lobby helped sustain $2.52 billion in aid to Israel last year, directly addressing one of the primary concerns of 4 million Americans and a general concern of many more. A $91 million lobby is influencing health care policy in this country, however, which represents $2 trillion in total spending, 10% of the GDP, which doesn't seem to inspire nearly the hyperbole as the influence of The Jews, even when it directly costs us money, as it did in its victory over allowing Medicare to negotiate pricing for prescription drugs
So I'll be honest and say that I'm suspicious that there's a racist element in discussions on Jewish influence and aid to Israel, but even if not, I'd suggest you start focusing on the people who really control our government, and who are actually taking substantial amounts food out of your mouth as a result.
Oh, and one last question. If the constant back room scheming of the Jews has resulted in the $2.5 billion we gave to Israel last year, whose constant back room scheming resulted in the $1.8 billion we gave to Egypt? I haven't noticed accusations of widespread Egyptian influence, besides that who King Tut thing in the 70s. - thecoolestguy, on 11/17/2007, -1/+2What he means by Jewish influence is ISRAELI influence. It's fine if Jews want to shape domestic policy, but if Jewish nationalists want to shape American foreign policy to benefit a foreign nation that should be opposed by other Americans.
- sazai, on 11/16/2007, -2/+3Not supporting Israel doesn't make you racist. Blaming the entire black community because 1/3 of their men are in jail is.
- gkiltz, on 11/16/2007, -2/+0The last person "Qualified" in the ever so humble opinions of people such as yourself was the late Lyndon Johnson, who, in addition to a lot of other things is famous for the following:
As a Senator from Texas, Lyndon Johnson voted against EVERY civil rights bill that came to the floor of the Senate, he did not miss a single vote on that issue, no matter how loaded he was, and he voted "NO" on every one!--As President of the US, Lyndon Johnson SIGNED EVERY civil rights bill that made it to the President's Desk. In those days there was a way that laws could go through without the President's signature(Still theoretically possible, but because of the way congress works now very rare!) There were a couple of them where he could have gotten away with that, and didn't do it! HE WAS LATER RUN OUT OF OFFICE IN DISGRACE!

I happened to think Giuliani would make the second worst U.S. President ever (just slightly better than GWB, and I live in New York, by the way), but he is unfortunately qualified for the job.
According to the Constitution, which is the only authoritative reference on the subject, he can be President since he was born in the U.S., has been a resident here for more than 13 years, and is older than 35. Until someone passes an amendment that excludes a__holes from the presidency, we're all screwed.
Yeah, I know that's not what you meant by "qualified".- JoeVet, on 11/16/2007, -1/+4Any fool can tell you its not the constitution that decides who is qualified. Its who's got the biggest bank account that matters.

that pretty much makes all of them unqualified. Sorry, you don't get seriously considered for President unless you have won at least one state-wide election (Senator, Governor). This means you are surrounded by hags even if you yourself are (reasonably) clean. Please don't bring up Paul, Richardson or Huckabee. Nice folks with decent messages but no chance of winning (flame away RP lovers, it won't change the outcome!).
I wish we'd stop talking candidates and start a campaign focused on money. How about an amendment requiring level public financed campaigns and restrictions on paid political speech? Require all networks that receive any benefit from the public coffers (OTA broadcast, utility pole access...basically everyone) to provide reasonable and equal free time for political advertisements during a set season. Set restrictions on how much money a candidate or PAC can spend in the run-up to an election.
Yank the money and you'll yank much of the corruption. Such a system would also open up the game to more than two parties.
