- SheilaNoya, on 05/14/2008, -7/+11Dick Cheney personally went to Mississippi to drum up support for the Republican candidate. His "scare tactic" was that the Democratic candidate (Travis Childers) was too much like Obama and they both shared the same values. To Dick Cheney's utter surprise, the people LIKED Obama's values and voted for Travis Childers, the Democrat.
Cheney's smear tactics backfired in his face, but I think we should all send him a "Thank You" note for helping the Democratic candidate to win. - inboxnews, on 05/14/2008, -2/+14How many defeats must the GOP suffer before they get it? Reduce the size of Government, Cut spending, Stop printing money, Build the Fence, Enforce existing laws. On and on. It's not rocket science... think Reagan!
- SheilaNoya, on 05/14/2008, -7/+7Your first 3 points are right on target, but building the fence and enforcing existing immigration laws is not like Reagan. Reagan gave full amnesty to all illegal immigrants and did nothing to stop the flow of more of them coming here. His successor, Bush Sr., also increased H1B immigrations and did nothing to control the border.
Although I'm an Obama supporter, it was Bill Clinton who finally beefed up border security with his "Operation Gatekeeper" program. Bush Jr. scrapped that program right after he took office and started telling us how we needed more "Guest Workers" from Mexico.- inboxnews, on 05/14/2008, -3/+5After granting amnesty Reagan later realized it was a mistake. That's the Reagan I was referring to. Another thing, the amnesty plan then and now was the dems idea. If you really care about that you would not be supporting Obama.
- SheilaNoya, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4The amnesty plan we have now started with Bush Jr.
The topic wasn't even on the table until Bush made it a huge issue by trying to push his "Guest Worker" plan through congress so corporate America could have cheaper labor.
- SheilaNoya, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4The amnesty plan we have now started with Bush Jr.
- katie212, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1correct, that is true that it began with New neocon bush trotsyite leftist liberals who are NOT conservatives at all.

- elhaf, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3I have voted for Republicans in the past, including both my state's senators, my local rep, and Bush the first time around. He lost me at WMD (they weren't there, it was a lie to war, that became obvious when Saddam didn't USE the damn things if he had them). Now I am voting Obama, Rick Noriega, and whatever Democrat challenges my local rep. Nothing the GOP does between now and November can change that. Your first three points and last one would be a good start, along with "Restore the Constitution" and "Stop the spying and lying". Some of us (ex) Republicans do care about the bill of rights, you know, and not just the second amendment. It is impossible to stop illegal immigration in a climate in which it benefits everyone involved. See "A Day Without A Mexican". Also see the time they did actually enforce immigration law in Nebraska. They were shortly kicked out when all the factories were threatened with closure.
- Terr01, on 05/14/2008, -2/+2Wait, the same Reagan who was President? Because that guy had no effect on the size of government (or rather, slimmed it quickly at the last minute after making it bigger for quite a while) and INCREASED spending.
Heaven forbid the most basic facts and statistics ever get in the way of of a convenient myth.

- dan.stryker, on 05/14/2008, -3/+5He won because he is a "CONSERVATIVE Democrat"... Same for the dem in LA that won a "republican" district. Same for the IL district as well...
- elhaf, on 05/14/2008, -1/+4Yes, well the point is that "Republican" as a brand is shot to hell. Maybe these neocon fools are finished once and for all, and NO ONE will let them back into their party. Conservative, fine, neocons ***** off.
- banderwocky, on 05/14/2008, -1/+10Maybe it's time for the Republican party to close shop and start up a new one under a new platform, name, etc. They are damaged beyond repair.
- amightywind, on 05/14/2008, -1/+6The same argument could be made of the democrats, and Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia's rejection of Obama elitist liberalism. With Hillary gone all of these states may be coming back home to the GOP. The leftists cannot win without them.
- elhaf, on 05/14/2008, -1/+2Nice try to pretend that the Appalachian states' overt racism is actually a blow against Obama's 'elitism'. Laughable. If you want the Hillbilly vote, you are welcome to it.
- neognostic, on 05/14/2008, -2/+1Drinking during the day again I see, your inebriated logic follows no path to enlightenment.
- Terr01, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Riiiiight, Hillary's the salt-of-the-earth one... Pfft.
- banderwocky, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1I think it's a viable solution. It isn't declaring defeat and sulking off into a cave or anything. They are going through their "Re-Branding" as it is put, and facing a massive up hill climb. Other political parties have successfully pulled this strategy off in other countries. Disband the party, re-unite under a new banner and new face.

- TheEngineer2008, on 05/14/2008, -0/+17If the GOP keep up its big government, nanny-state ways (like the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act), they'll continue to lose elections.
- amprather, on 05/14/2008, -1/+8Cheney's visit to "help" the Republican candidate was a joke. The Democrat candidate had already painted the Republican candidate as being in the pocket of Big Oil, so what does the White House do? Send the man that is the very face of Big Oil's influence on the Republican Party.
To make things worse, Cheney showed up during rush hour traffic, so they had to close major roads and get thousands of people (VOTERS!) stuck in huge traffic jams burning up the $3.50 and higher gas in their cars. All of this the DAY BEFORE THE ELECTION!!!
In the first runoff, the Democrat only was ahead by 1%. This time, he won by 8%!! THANK YOU DICK!!!- TheEngineer2008, on 05/14/2008, -0/+5Awesome comment!
- GanjaGirl, on 05/14/2008, -1/+4I'm from Mississippi, and I find it ***** hilarious that the anally stuffed hardcore Republicans in this state have finally relinquished some control in our local government. This state needs a big change, though, so I hope this bodes well.
- Bronnster, on 05/14/2008, -1/+5Not surprising at all. Dugg for proving a fact.
- SoyJames, on 05/14/2008, -2/+2bwaaaahaaaaahaaaaaaaa
- Minarchian, on 05/14/2008, -2/+8LOL!
Now, aren't you neo-cons happy that you want to nominate the Trojan Horse, McCain?
You've made your beds and now you'll sleep in it... Har har har!
The only chance you loser neo-cons have is that Clinton gets the nomination, then every one and their brother will come out to make sure that Commie bitch stays away from the WH. There's no difference between McCain and Obama, so if Obamarama gets the nom....you neo-cons will still win, cause you're a bunch of damned liberals yourselves.
This Nov it's going to be a political bloodbath. You neo-cons are going to go down in history as the ones who caused the downfall of the Republican Party. Which I would bet it's what you've wanted all along.- Herkimer56, on 05/14/2008, -4/+2Did you skip your meds today?
- zephyear, on 05/15/2008, -2/+1obama and mccain are worlds apart
if anything clinton and mccain are closer - katie212, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Right On Minarchian!
- uglyowl, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3It is disgusting that the Republicans are in the business of telling Americans what they can and not in their own homes using morality and religion as excuses, but behind closed doors are doing things far far worse. I have voted Republican from 1998 to 2006... not again unless they get back to small government in every sense. In fact I will go out of my way to help to make sure they don't get in.
- katie212, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1none of the candidates except Ron Paul are for smaller government,
- zephyear, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1i love how they said they're going to keep using the tactic comparing their opponets to obama
- katie212, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Obama is a liberal socialist...Clinton is a liberal socialist...McCain is a liberal socialist disguised with the word neoCONSERVATIVE(New conservative? = TROTSKYITE)...With these 3 so called "Choices" you get...."Welcome to Socialist AM3RIKA comrades". The dictatorship continues.
- JohnGalt72, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0I had to visit Childers website to see what he stood for, and what the term "conservative democrat" meant.
After reading, I figure these Mississippi voters are just fed up with Republicans, probably because of the Bush administration, so they vote for a Dem. Hence, playing right into the hands of this two party system.
If they really wanted to show displeasure with a conservative, should they really go vote for someone who believes in bailing out homeowners who made poor choices, at the cost of their own tax money?
I think not.
They should've voted "no prefererence".
