Chris Matthews gets caught on camera saying what we all were thinking

Chris Matthews spent most of his airtime tonight talking about the breaking non-story about how Bloomberg is currently a non-republican and a non-candidate for president. In this blooper, they cut to him while he was cursing about not having non-footage for his non-announcement. Brilliant.- readthis, on 10/11/2007, -22/+13I can think of worse things I've said that I wish I hadn't.
- eatsushi, on 10/11/2007, -31/+13I don't give a *****, I support him more now. Not his company, him.
- DevinOlsen, on 10/11/2007, -8/+249"We're all over re-acting here and we're putting on *****. We have nothing to..."
"I apologize for that, I shouldn't of used that word on the air, I didn't think I was..."
At least he apologized for it, rather then pretending like it didn't even happen.- djohnmalkovich2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well, at least we know the "putting up *****" part is for certain.
- oxdeltaxo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+165At least he knows what he's doing, and he knows its all *****.
- griz, on 10/11/2007, -6/+77Oh man!! Stewart or Colbert need to have fun with this one.
- griz, on 10/11/2007, -11/+26"We're all over re-acting here and we're putting on *****. We have nothing to..."
I'm not sure that is what he says, it sounds like he says, "We're already acting here and putting on *****." - daeyeth, on 10/11/2007, -10/+137My respect for Chris Matthews just went up
- Mitchl, on 10/11/2007, -24/+12He better watch it. The FCC goons under Bushies orders will disappear him to Gitmo for using language like that on TV.
- nogeek, on 10/11/2007, -15/+6I don't see the problem either, the media are def making up *****
http://www.greenvoice.com - Infowarmachine, on 10/11/2007, -7/+45watch he gets fired now..
cause he admits that they are putting on *****, its true, they are putting on ***** - bigdaddyguido, on 10/11/2007, -18/+6of course he gets fired, you don't tell the truth on fox news, that's sacrilege.
- dclowd9901, on 10/11/2007, -7/+10"He better watch it. The FCC goons under Bushies orders will disappear him to Gitmo for using language like that on TV."
Cable isn't regulated by the FCC. He could suffer reprocussions in the form of social conservative boycotting by non-viewers threatening his advertisers, like Imus, but I don't think he'll lose his job over this slip of the tongue, and the FCC certainly won't penalize him. - DrDabbles, on 10/11/2007, -13/+4@DevinOlsen:
First OF all, the proper word to have used would have been "HAVE". Try getting it right next time.
Second, why should he apologize? If you don't like one word out of countless thousands spewed at you on a daily basis, and you decide you simply will not tolerate it, maybe you shouldn't leave your house. Ever. Because you never know when someone might utter an obscene word. - NecroSexy, on 10/11/2007, -10/+1Softball and its publicity stunt.
- SLSSNAKE, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23-Drdabbles
No, he doesn't have to apologize... but he did. He used language that some people might find inappropriate and would not have expected to hear on his program, so he apologized about it. There's nothing wrong with taking into account how others might feel when you say certain things. - krosk, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1http://www.duggmirror.com
- ashester, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I don't see why everyone is saying "at least he knows it's *****, that's good", if he knows that he is reporting *****, then he should ya know... do something about it. Sure he is just the one on camera and yeah, he was talking to someone about it, but that still kinda shows an irresponsibility. i dunno what he could do about it, but more then just report a non-story.
- kbeast, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Fire him or suspend him like Imus, O&A and everyone else.. once everyone is gone from TV and radio, lets see how the ratings do since the only thing left to listen to is crickets.
This day and age with 'reality tv' so popular, guess what, this is as real as it gets. - BlackCow, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Why should he have to apologize for using the word, its a ***** word people. It meens poopy.
I'm so sick of the USA.
- LakeshoreBaby, on 10/11/2007, -8/+194Wahahahaahahhahahahahah. Man, even the media knows they are full of *****. Hahahahahahahahahaha. Nice story.
- Alegoo92, on 10/11/2007, -26/+3I have a crush on u
- unmarked, on 10/11/2007, -6/+40Not so much the media, but Chris Matthews.
Whatever his political views, he does try to break through the politician double-speak that is so prevalent in our society today. He keeps grilling and grilling, trying to get an honest response. Sometimes he succeeds, sometimes he fails -- but at least he tries. I wish there were more folks like Chris Matthews, especially in the White House Press group.
- SilentSpyder, on 10/11/2007, -68/+47I resubmitted this in the video section where it belongs.
- PathDaemon, on 10/11/2007, -7/+62Can't... decide.... how... to mod!
Video belongs in video section... but poster is complaining about story... whining bastard... but nobody uses video section!!! AAAHH! - NSMike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+33Just put him at +0. We all know he's right, but yeah, the complaint is annoying.
- PathDaemon, on 10/11/2007, -7/+62Can't... decide.... how... to mod!
- diggingbar, on 10/11/2007, -11/+2Hahaha.. That has to hurt.. lol
- beatphats, on 10/11/2007, -6/+172Why do people apologize for saying the truth, but don't when they lie?
- hdenton, on 10/11/2007, -2/+92To keep their jobs.
- winnch, on 10/11/2007, -5/+128He didn't apologize for his comments. He apologized for using profane language on daytime air. The right thing to do.
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4Being honest is out of style didn't you know? ***** is the new honesty!
- rarson, on 10/11/2007, -8/+7Why the ***** is it "the right thing to do" to censor yourself on daytime TV? Real people use words like "*****" and "*****" all the time. I know this from experience. Ignoring the sheer ludicrousness of getting offended by a certain sequence of sounds, it just doesn't make any sense for us all to change ourselves and become a different persona simply because we're in public. If you don't like watching cuss words on TV in the middle of the day, then change the ***** channel. The FCC is obsolete, we should really just get rid of it.
- DrDabbles, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Because people are *****. Sorry, I just couldn't resist using the word.
- JohnnyXmas, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8He apologized for using the foul language, NOT for telling the truth.
- thebrakelights, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1HAHA right?!
- chopenik, on 10/11/2007, -37/+8*****............ I don't get it. Whats the big deal again?

- WiseWeasel, on 10/11/2007, -12/+7mumble mumble mumble well, we're all acting here, putting on ***** (pause) Welcome back to Hardball...
- TenebrousX, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23First he says "We're all reacting here and putting on *****, we have nothing..." then he is told the camera is rolling and he starts the story. At the end (after the clip) he apologizes for saying *****, explaining that the newsroom is hectic
- crimson117, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8"We're all reacting here and putting on sh!t, [but] we have nothing to [offer?]... Welcome back to Hardball..." (and he goes on to talk about Bloomberg's announcement, etc).
Then after the cut he says "I apologize for that, I shouldn't have used that word on the air, I didn't think I was. Things are breaking around here, we're trying to get the story on the air, a breaking story. Of course that was Brian Williams interviewing New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg last night..." - WiseWeasel, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Upon further review, TenebrousX is right, he did say reacting... my bad. Digg TenebrousX's transcript up...
- PathDaemon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7"We're all reacting here and putting on *****. We have nothing goi[ng on(?)]— Welcome back to Hardball…"
[Later]
"I apologize for that. I shouldn't have used that word on the air, I didn't think I was. Things are breaking around here, we're trying to get this story on the air. A breaking story, of course. That was Brian Williams…"
[edit] gosh darnit. Should'a reloaded. - ryancxx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Sounded like overreacting to me, not all reacting.
- griz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Sounds like "We're already acting" Implying that they are making this ***** up as they go along.
- dezmo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i heard "We're only acting here and.."
- djohnmalkovich2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Seems like he said: "We're already acting here and putting on *****, we have nothing going on...."
- aceg1357, on 10/11/2007, -89/+7MSNBC's Mathews' left wing bias and unprofessionalism are becoming more apparent by the day.
- an0nymous, on 10/11/2007, -4/+42This is a demonstration of left wing bias? Explain, please.
- arbulus, on 10/11/2007, -4/+26Left wing bias? That's a laugh.
- disciple83, on 10/11/2007, -13/+3For an0nymous:
I think it's pretty hard right, but this blog is purely dedicated/kinda conspiracy-oriented towards left-wing bias.
http://www.newsbusters.org
Sometimes it's interesting, but I often times have trouble figuring out WTH is going on. I don't keep up as much as others. - luther70, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14Like when he was caught on tape thanking Delay for helping him out and making commentis on Hilary like "Nothing worse than a woman know it all". Yep liberal bias
- LiquidAardvark, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Matthews seems to dislike most on the right and left. I don't see that as biased at all.
- neuropsychguy, on 10/11/2007, -9/+26I'm moderately conservative (which on Digg is equivalent to "extremist fascist with a severely impaired IQ who not only religiously believes whatever Kool-Aid FOX News injects into him but also is so detached from reality that he should be shipped off to a commune for crazy conservatives in Alabama after being imprisoned in Guantanamo (before it is shut down)") but I don't really see what this has to do with liberal media or bias.
- bovox, on 10/11/2007, -8/+15Matthews is actually a consistent Moderate. However, I don't expect little-minded left/right extremists to understand what a Moderate is.
- SelfAbortion, on 10/11/2007, -11/+10Matthews is as much of a douche as any of the other pundits out there.
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Nice to see how you feel being honest and speaking your mind is not being "professional."
- aceg1357, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1norman619
If you think swearing on the job is professional, then I don't know what to say. And if you have ever worked in a professional setting long enough to not get fired, I'm surprised you don't know what true professionalism is. I guess your bar is lower than mine.
- dpaul87, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1What we all were.. WTH.
- Easty, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15How quiet is that video? I can't hear a thing without setting my speakers to stupid loud..
- szembek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Yeah, no *****.
- TridenTBoy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh whew, I thought I was the only one. For some reason I was like, why the ***** is it so quiet?(Had to boost my headphones to like 100% to hear anything)
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Bloomberg only became a Republican to run against a Democrat for NYC Mayor AND get Rudy's recommendation.
- bovox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5he did quite well running for mayor already as a republican. as i recall, he won as a republican. he doesn't need to change his label for that. the only reasonable explanation for him to change his label is for national politics.
- whahaa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5another very reasonable explanation might be that he is just fed up with the republican party.
- unrequited, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9"we're all reacting here and putting on *****... we have nothing to offer --"

- VegasKill, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3Definitions of ***** on the Web:
* crap: obscene terms for feces
* *****: obscene words for unacceptable behavior; "I put up with a lot of ***** from that jerk"; "what he said was mostly bull"
* jack: a small worthless amount; "you don't know jack"
* a coarse term for defecation; "he took a *****"
* *****: insulting terms of address for people who are stupid or irritating or ridiculous
* denounce: give away information about somebody; "He told on his classmate who had cheated on the exam"
* damn: something of little value; "his promise is not worth a damn"; "not worth one red cent"; "not worth shucks"
* stool: have a bowel movement; "The dog had made in the flower beds"
http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
* ***** is a vernacular word in Modern English denoting the feces, the solid byproduct of digestion. It is an old and native English word, but following the Norman Conquest, Norman, Anglo-Norman, French, and Latin terms for many common objects and bodily functions began to be seen as more distinguished than native words, and thereafter feces became the accepted English noun, to defecate became the accepted English verb, and ***** was no longer used in polite company.

- janeuner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11It isn't him saying "*****" that is the story here...it is the rest of that sentence:
"We are overreacting and we're putting on *****."
He was talking about the Bloomberg story, and he knew that no one in America really cared. - norman619, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Isn't saying ***** ok now? Didn't the courts rule since the president said it then it is ok for others to say it?
- fuzzynyanko, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5They allowed the word "*****" on the air but with certain conditions. As soon as it was allowed, everyone was making excuses for saying "*****" on TV, even Dan Rather. South Park parodied it by saying it around 200 times in an episode.
- CrazedGeek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Relevant link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_Hits_the_Fan
Also, not to be a correctness... person, but they said it 161 times.

- Twinked, on 10/11/2007, -9/+4Buried for being extremely lame.
- jweinraub, on 10/11/2007, -10/+8Wow he said ***** on TV. Who the ***** cares? Why are people so obsessed over stupid four letter words? We all say it anyways so who gives a crap?
- winnch, on 10/11/2007, -9/+4Judging by your language, I doubt you'll understand this, but there is such a thing as professionalism in journalism and broadcast. Profane language is not a part of that. It's a choice we make as a society. Furthermore, when it comes to daytime air, I don't want my kids around a TV where they can hear that sort of thing.
- Treoinmypocket, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Possibly for the same reason you chose - just now and instinctively - to use the word "crap" instead of "*****".
- SelfAbortion, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Censoring television is much better and easier than being a parent who is willing to discuss how language works with children.
- rokinroj, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12"I don't want my kids around a TV where they can hear that sort of thing."?
Right, because I'm sure your kids sit around and watch Hardball. And do you seriously think that if they happened to be passing by the television that they would have even picked up on it? I had to replay the video several times to get the dialog, and I was specifically listening for it. If it weren't for everyone running around repeating what he said this too would be a non issue. - shredswithpiks, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2saying ***** on daytime news is not inappropriate simply because of the children. it's just inappropriate.
however this guy wins the day for being honest with himself.
- LoonyOnTheGrass, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3It's going to happen sometimes whenever you spend half of your business day in front of a camera. His best quality is that he's tough, but sometimes he lets up and throws a couple of softballs. Overall, one of the best programs on network news.
- winnch, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Agreed. Hardball with Chris Matthews is a phenomenal show.
- mbthompson, on 10/11/2007, -7/+6Chris Matthews is and always was a loudmouth jackass. This is just more evidence of that.
- bovox, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8wow. i actually respect him more.
- ericdano, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4Who's Chris Matthews? He works for what? They still have a network? Oh.........
- jason469, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2Before anyone starts crying about left-wing or right-wing, know that Chris Matthews is a long time Conservative Republican. He's stated it before on MSNBC, ***** I wish I could find those videos. Watch him speak of any candidate (Democrat or republican) and he'll start off with "you know, I'm a conservative, and my family votes republican........"
I don't care where he stands, I do like watching him interview people on Hardball because he grills them hard.- afx114, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7You do know he was a speech writer for the Carter administration, right? Last I checked Carter was a Dem.
I'm not saying Matthews is a lefty either, but to say he's a "long time Conservative Republican" isn't exactly true.
He's the type of guy who floats whichever direction the wind is blowing... - DRINKxREDxBULL, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5No he is not.
He used to work for the Democrat Party.
So stop lying. - FlaG8r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2He used to work for Carter, but I think he left the Democrats. I know his brother is an elected Republican official in Pennsylvania.
- afx114, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7You do know he was a speech writer for the Carter administration, right? Last I checked Carter was a Dem.

- Dustin00, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Yawn. Big deal.
- HouseofEl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I think this has been coming for a while. Matthews as of late seems to really be pissed about what he is reporting on. I sense a lot of frustration in his commentary. I think he is just as disillusioned as everyone else in this country now.

amazing. Good things there are true reports like Jon Stewart to keep things real.- whahaa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0sigh...
- tinselt0wn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wow. Jon Stewart is a comedian. not a reporter. His show satirizes the current state of news reporting, but is he a real reporter? no

- zeiben, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3His street cred just went through the roof. Well worth the bazillion dollar fine.
- DrDabbles, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There is no fine. It's not a publicly available channel, so he gets to say things like that. FCC rules do not apply.
- DrDabbles, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You know, I say we stop pandering to the people that can't take the word "*****". TOUGH *****! Grow the hell up, people. If you don't like it, stop watching. And, frankly, it's a pay-for channel here in the US. That means the FCC rules do not apply. So he can legally say a hell of a lot more. The station owners simply don't want him to.
- YouAreFun, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1That's not true.
- urbannomad23, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5at least he gives a damn, unlike reporters from FOX news.
- Goofymantk, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0I think he is actually saying that "We're overreacting" instead of "We're all reacting", I know at least I have done the same and messed up some pronunciations when I was angry or agitated. As I listen I can hear how either would work, but since the latter makes no sense to me given what he's talking about, the former is what I think he's saying. if you listen closely you can here the 'r' from over, but it's kind of lost if you're not listening for it, I guess.
- DaygoWop, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I vote Chris Matthews for president! Haha!
- YouAreFun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12The only information I can give here with out losing my job is the fact that almost every single (decent) pundit knows this is *****. When they are off the air, you hear them say it OVER and OVER again, how stupid they think this all is. They decided to put the news in with the profit-making aspects of the company and so they are all copying the Fox News money making style. Absolutely EVERYONE involved knows that it's *****. I have heard every pundit you can name (not on Fox News) say how much ***** it is.
Chris Matthews is actually one of the nicest, level-headed of all of them. He's amazing to the people around him and an all around nice guy. He's not stupid. He knows that this ***** isn't news. Everyone knows. Thank Fox News for this shift from News to Entertainment.
Enjoy. You're the country that is watching it.- Shadowhawk22, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2In all fairness, America is divided between the people who like Fox news, and those like myself who despise it. They are just yes-men for the President, liars, and crooks. What Chris was saying in this incident was that they didn't have enough information on this story yet, and were just bs'ing it. That is what they all do now... Remember the election coverage when they "call" a state, how Fox called it first from just speculation, and then the other news networks followed... People need to ban Fox news from everything in their life. Enough is enough. We should also ban any other network that carries on this BS attitude, I am sick of it.
- MisterFlaut, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"In all fairness, America is divided between the people who like Fox news, and those like myself who despise it."
Wrong.
America is 80% ***** stupid.
Need an example? American Idol.
Most Americans don't know any better, so don't pretend like they do. They're all ***** sheep, and are contributing to the decline of this country's already unstable prosperity.

- webonics, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Chris Matthews rocks! He is no ***** kind of guy. He has inspired my interest in American politics more than anyone else since first seeing his show nearly four years ago.
- jae1227, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1He's said "*****" before. But the funniest is when he says "*****" on the Don Imus show. He says it how it is.
