- sigmaman2, on 10/29/2008, -3/+60That's what I love about this campaign. Everyone appreciates everyone else in it, from the top to the bottom and back, from the old to the young and back, etc. Charles deserves to see this campaign succeed.
- JDoorjam, on 10/29/2008, -2/+73John McCain can keep Joe the Plumber. This volunteer, Charles, who never shoved his way into the spotlight, and is volunteering to help secure a future he's not sure he'll even live to see, is the true heart of what this campaign is about.

- GiggleStick, on 10/29/2008, -15/+9Joe the Plumber was playing in his front yard when Obama showed up on his street, which is kind of like shoving your way into the spotlight, I guess.

If you did some research, you'd find that Joe [not named Joe] the Plumber [not actually a plumber] doesn't even live in the neighborhood where he asked Obama the question, and you might also mention that he fought his way through the crowd and shouted his question at Obama repeatedly from a distance.
- Reaper2806, on 10/29/2008, -0/+46I'm not american, but this election has captivated me. If I could cast a vote, it would be for Obama, not because I agree with his policies (I do but it's only a bonus), but because I believe in the man. He sees each person he meets as an equal, he sees their humanity and their struggle and considers them all as much as he can when he makes his decisions. If I could hand pick my leader, I don't want someone who will do what I think is the right thing, I want someone who'll try his hardest to do right by as many people as possible. Say... 95% of the country.
I remember something I read in one of his books, when a man said to him something along the lines of "Well I still don't agree, but I can see you've thought about it."- Rahodeb, on 10/29/2008, -3/+9"Well I still don't agree, but I can see you've thought about it."
I also feel that way about the Obama campaign, and the optimism is infectious. However, I firmly believe his policies, as well as those of John McCain, are a very large step in the wrong direction for this country. No amount of hope or good feeling will change that.
We need a return to a smaller, more fiscally responsible government, respect for the constitution and limitations of governments intrusion in our lives. - keithloughnane, on 10/29/2008, -0/+6Couldn't vote either until i bought shares in Diebolt now i can vote 250 times.
Seriously though the person in the oval office affects the world. I'm in Ireland,

- ElderBieler, on 10/29/2008, -10/+1While I don't doubt the sincerity of people like this or Obama voters in general I strongly believe that most have bought into his campaign based on ideologies and "feelings." Not actualities and facts.
The fact is; Obama stands for increased social programs, bigger government and redistribution of wealth. All things every American which has interest in the American dream should stand against.- meese, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3ElderBieler -
Do you you even have solid definitions or facts behind your claims? McCain, and the president he proudly says he campaigned for and supported - George Bush - increased the federal budget more than any president before him.
Oh wait, he's a "conservative Republican" so that doesn't count, at least according to Fox News.
Not to mention that McCain isn't against progressive taxation - he's not a flat-tax guy - and therefore he's for "redistribution of wealth". Oh, and Sarah Palin said that she's proud of how Alaska "shares the wealth". I guess you'd like to ignore that, right? - Railz, on 10/29/2008, -0/+5"All things every American which has interest in the American dream should stand against."
Funny, I thought America was based off the foundation that there was no set truth. - ElderBieler, on 10/29/2008, -1/+1@meese: I never said I supported McCain or agree with all the choices Bush has made. Why do people do that? Instead of addressing your points on a candidate they immediately go to, "well the other guy..." And as far as increasing the federal budget, the Iraq War was almost completely responsible for the increased demands, so to compare Clinton vs. Bush era's is completely inaccurate.
While I'd love for McCain to be a flat-tax guy, he at the very least acknowledges that the current system rewards people for not advancing themselves through social programs, rebates, and subsidies. Obama supports those things and even wants to ADD tax refunds on taxes they don't even pay (federal for those under 31K. The problem is that poor people aren't poor because of taxes, and certainly a $400 annual tax savings will not make the difference. Many are poor because they lack the education, training, and most importantly the desire/ willingness to sacrifice and to work hard.
@Railz: What the hell are you talking about? The entire basis for our Constitution are that there are "truths" which we subscribe to and believe in. Have you ever taken a Political Science or National History class? I'm not being condescending, have you?
We believe that we have a right to pursue happiness without restriction or hindrance from the Government. That every person has the opportunity to take advantage of the American dream through self merit and sacrifice. Obama says it's the governments role to push people through the classes. It's the governments role to give people subsidized grants and loans so that they can advance themselves. There is not one person in this country today that can't become a millionaire. Dedication, sacrifice, work ethic, education, and perserverance will make you a rich person regardless of color or background. Sadly, Obama doesn't beleive that. - Railz, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1@ElderBieler
Indeeed I have, the constitution was the law to govern the land, but the founding fathers rarely saw eye to eye. Thomas Jefferson believed no Government is the best and his polar opposite John Adam wanted a land governed solely by laws. The constitution isn't the truth, just the outline, the laws for the government to follow. Also, if you haven't noticed, the Supreme Courts purpose is to 'interpret' the constitution, and its interpretation changes depending on the whose in charge. Hence no truth. - aliendisaster, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2@ElderBieler

- rignopolis, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1As long as your willing to include war heroes and hockey moms in your list of "ordinary people", I'm with you. The problem is people on both sides love to label people and forget that at our core we're all Americans. If we get to the point that we can't be proud of the country we live in - even when we make mistakes - we are in real trouble.
- tomdiggsit, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3Of course, we embrace our heroes and love our hockey moms, too, but Palin and McCain are self-labeled to draw attention to a division, to say that war heroes and hockey moms know best. Ordinary people don't have to say they are ordinary. But Charles represents the message of the Obama campaign to me -- you have the power to change. We can't wait for saviors.
We can only hope for enlightened guides. - rignopolis, on 10/29/2008, -0/+0If people are inspired by Obama to change for the better, more power to them. Don't discount those who are not so inspired by labeling them as divisive. Hopefully Obama inspires people to do what they can for themselves - and not become more dependent on the government. He is about to tax "the rich" to pay for the programs for the poor.......but that never works. The rich will avoid taxation to the best of their ability. They will retire early, they will invest less and work less hard. When they have LESS MONEY, he won't be able to TAX THEM as much. And that is when the MIDDLE CLASS gets screwed by Obama.

In tragic contrast, McCain is hiring black canvassers at 10$ per hour who actually support Obama! The women explain how embarrassed they are but they need the work.
http://www.newshoggers.com/blog/2008/10/mccain-sho ...
Two women walk out of John McCain’s Mid-West headquarters carrying a pile of voter canvassing sheets, one sports a baseball hat declaring her a “team leader” of the Republican campaign. And both are black — an unusual sight in an election where Barack Obama’s support among African Americans is almost monolithic.
Are they volunteers? They look at each other sheepishly. “Not exactly,” replies one. “We work for an employment agency,” says the other. Who are they voting for? “I don’t want to say,” says the first woman. “Obama — of course!” whispers the braver of the pair.
They laugh, then look over their shoulders at the office behind them. “Don’t give him your name, he’ll put it in the paper,” says the cautious one, explaining that they cannot afford to lose their $10-an-hour (£6) jobs. “This is embarrassing. We’re doing this because we have to live. At least none of our friends can see us. We’re from Chicago — like Obama.”- MediaWeasel, on 10/29/2008, -3/+36That's very telling, that he has to tout for people from an agency to come and work for him.

The cry of "socialist" and "tax and spend" is barked out because people are uncomfortable with it. Look at McCain chant about Obama's "spread the wealth" comment.
It's *****. It works with the uneducated, uninformed, already-decided masses. Do you know how many people in this country make over $250,000 a year? More people die in car accidents than make that much.
So what's it really about? It's about the Republicans selling "The American Dream". Sure, you might not be wealthy now, but you will be someday. Just keep working hard, voting republican, going to church, eating apple pie, and putting your hand over your chest during the pledge of allegiance during baseball games. You'll get there eventually, bucko! Then they give them a friendly pat on the back while the other hand steals their wallet.
If the democratic policies have been labeled "tax and spend", why haven't Bush's policies been labeled "spend and spend"? He cuts taxes (WHICH COSTS MONEY) and still spends more money. Our national debt is out of control, our deficit is ridiculous. Remember how we used to have a surplus?
Oh - we got that back though. I don't even know what the ***** I spent my $300 on, do you guys? Even the $600 I got earlier this year went straight to credit card debt (from paying my tuition which went up 15% over last year).
How about a little help? I don't want much - I don't want a handout. I just want it to be easier for people to do the right thing. You want to sell me that American Dream so badly? Put it on a lower shelf so maybe I can reach it. Take it out from behind that glass cage. Spend less on Advertising and maybe do some real R&D on it.
You want more people to own homes? Great. Don't just give people with bad credit loans - give them the knowledge and tools they need to fix their credit. Do you know how hard it is to deal with credit agencies? How their arcane and mysterious system works? If something shows up on your credit report it can ***** you - and you can't do anything about it quickly - it takes months. Literally, months.
So how about this.
-Mandatory personal economics classes in public schools from elementary upwards. (FUNDED)
-College tuition reimbursement for graduates who offer to teach or otherwise serve in public schools for a few years after their graduation. (FUNDED)
-Lower tax rates for the lower and middle classes.
-An Executive branch that respects and honors science and knowledge instead of dismissing it and creating doubt where none exists. Stem Cells, Climate Change - give me a break.
...I should probably try some decaf... - yacks, on 10/29/2008, -1/+5Joe the Plumber is not a hillbilly piece of trash.. He's a Washington Piece of Trash.. He's an In-law relative of Charles Keating of the S&L Scandal that McCain has links to..
http://jrichter.newsvine.com/_news/2008/10/16/2006 ... - Latentk, on 10/29/2008, -9/+1***** you. What right do you have to insult, let alone DIG into his personal life? All he ***** did was ask questions that pissed off the liberal, college student majority, and therefore is being destroyed piece be piece because of it. I ***** hate how ignorant and arrogant you ***** Diggerals are. This is absolutely absurd. Do not ***** insult a man simply because he expresses another opinion different from your own. This election is making me sick, seeing just how ***** mind numbingly, stupendously, and absurdly ignorant you ***** Liberals can be.
- MikeMitchell, on 10/29/2008, -0/+4Hey Latentk - Joe The Plumbers a piece of *****...deal with it!
your response is not only hypocritical, but ill informed.
- DarkprinceArmon, on 10/29/2008, -0/+5Charles the Volunteer. It needs its own TV spot. This is what we should be seeing on the campaign commercials.

- johnfuzz, on 10/28/2008, -4/+29Beautiful!
- StumpTowner, on 10/28/2008, -6/+136It makes me so happy to know that Charles will see Barack become our first African-American President --imagine his pride on election day. I'll be proud, too.
- centerblack, on 10/29/2008, -2/+30Who the f*ck is digging you down?
IMO it will say a hell of a lot about how far our country has come. Schools in this country were still segregated only 60 years ago. This guy Charles lived through the depression and the civil rights movement of the 60's and now in 2008 Obama may (hopefully) be elected President of the United States of America.
Racism, bigotry and ignorance are all characteristics that must be purged from our country. Any man or woman should be able to run for President and be judged only on their merits, not superficial characteristics like the color of their skin.- ragley, on 10/29/2008, -1/+7good question, I dugg him up and it didnt register for some reason, wtf?
- patrflav, on 10/29/2008, -1/+6possibly because some queef dug him down after you loaded the page but before you voted

- pimpofpixels, on 10/29/2008, -3/+9Obama is nothing like McCain. McCain is the son of an admiral who was also the son of an admiral. McCain is a Blue Blooded son of an Oligarchy who's privilege has dragged him through success in spite of his demonstrable incompetence. McCain, would be everything that Bush has been, a hollow figure head atop a corrupt administration which robs Americans of the wealth freedom and dignity.
Obama represents a change from 'scapegoat' politics to 'unity' politics.
Obama represents a change from writing policy for the lobbyists to writing policy for the people.
Obama represents our great nation exercising democracy to take back it's government, overthrow corruption, and renew our hope that things can get better.
That's the change we've been fighting for.
That's the change we believe in.
That's the difference in this election.

What is Digg?
The Digg Toolbar for Firefox lets you Digg, submit content, and keep track of Digg even when you're not on the Digg site. Download the official
