the Gannet company is very closely linked to the military-industrial complex. That they want to get rid of the only democrat who is against the wars that help the military-industrial complex getting ever richer is not surprising.
Also: The Gannett media conglomerate shares directors with Lockheed McCorkindale), and Cummins engine (James A. Johnson).

From http://www.namedpipe.org/ :
"Carolyn Washburn is pure Gannett material through-and-through."
"Carolyn received a Gannett President's Ring in 2001."
Which means she is a pure puppet of the military-industrial complex, does exactly what her bosses want.

Now to the awards for our top editors. This is the 14th year that we've awarded an Editor of the Year prize and the eighth year that we've awarded President's Rings.
This competition recognizes editors who have done the most to shape the progress and performance of their newsrooms.
The judges were John Curley; Doug McCorkindale, vice chairman and president; Gary Watson, president of the Newspaper Division; Dick Clapp, senior vice president/ personnel; and Phil Currie. - ISIfunded911, on 12/14/2007, -0/+18More from this analysis of the Republican debate with Washburn as the moderator here http://state29.blogspot.com/2007/12/carolyn-washbu ... :
"The problems went beyond Washburn's lack of mad moderating skillz. From the outset, Washburn announced that the candidates would not be discussing either Iraq" !!!
"Moderator Carolyn Washburn, editor of The Register, was determined to hold the politicians to a 30-second time limit for their answers." Which is what Chomsky always says about the corporate media: because they force everyone to answer very briefly, it is impossible to introduce new ideas to the public. That is a very shrewd way of censoring ideas that have not been marketed by the mass-media before.
And she "saw to it that none of the candidates engaged each other.", which makes it impossible for a candidate last in the polls to attack a candidate who is at the top of the polls. The perfect way ensure a status quo, to prevent any bad surprise, to control the primaries and make sure the candidates marketed by the corporate media long before the primaries (the candidates of the CFR aka the US oligarchy) win.- ISIfunded911, on 12/14/2007, -0/+12The end of that sentence was missing: "From the outset, Washburn announced that the candidates would not be discussing either Iraq or illegal immigration".
That was pure censorship, live and direct from Iowa, under the auspices of the military-industrial complex, as always with a lof of influence (and stocks) in the corporate media (just like the CIA).

- zoxx, on 12/14/2007, -52/+8I like Kucinich but he deserved to be excluded from the debate. All he had to do was have one bloody office, but he didn't so he was excluded. The Register is a good paper and Ms. Washburn does her job well--though the debate format was admittedly awkward, but it's not a Clinton conspiracy. End of story.
Go ahead, digg me down.- TwinTurboMike, on 12/14/2007, -1/+30Kucinich had an office, but it was apparently ran from a residence with a home office rather than a rented office space. I think it's justifiable to have a home office considering that Kucinich is on the higher moral ground in that he isn't taking boatloads of cash from corporations, etc. He's got to cut costs to still be able to compete. - sanic11, on 12/14/2007, -1/+22I will digg you down. Thats a ridiculous way to determine who gets to participate. Why should it be a requirement that someone pays for a storefront office. Obviously he's not bringing in the money the way others are, so if using a residency is the most efficient way for him to stretch his money, then more power to him.
Bottom line though, anyone who is paying attention to the Democratic primary knows that Kucinich plays a critical role in the debates by promoting the liberal perspective. He's the only one with distinctly different views from the rest of the group and his participation forces people to clarify their opinions. On top of all that, he's got higher poll numbers than Biden and Dodd. I'm not planning on voting for Kucinich, but denying him the opportunity to debate is a great disservice to the voters.

- laterthandawn, on 12/14/2007, -3/+88Carolyn Washburn should spend more time reporting the news and less time "modifying" it.
The fact that Kucinich -- not only an elected official with a long track history, but also a consistently applauded member of all the other debates (and a unique voice, so very needed in the democratic party) -- was excluded is a serious affront to democratic principles.- thawkth, on 12/14/2007, -0/+10This entire experience is an affront to democratic principles! The entire process, start to finish. The fact that Kucinich, Paul, and yes even Gravel have recieved ANY true attention is because of a STRONG, DEDICATED following determined to be heard.
It is the newly revitalized voice of the people, thanks in large part to the internet and the free flow of information, that gives the people a few options.

It's the last hope for our freedom. - groovsmyth, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3Alan Keyes was included in the Republican version, overlooked by "Nurse Ratchet" for a chance to speak, then portrayed as "throwing a tantrum" by reporters for asking that he be given 60 seconds like the other candidates instead of the 30 seconds "allowed" by Washburn. - samthurston, on 12/15/2007, -1/+1peak oil is a myth created by the oil companies in the 70's to get government support for their expansions into the nuclear power market. - amesolaire, on 12/14/2007, -1/+15I won't say I like it, but I can't say I'm surprised either. It seems like the voters have no say in this whole charade anymore. Elections are no longer a race for your vote on who do you think is best qualified to make important, informed and rarely straightforward decisions. Elections are now a race for sponsors between trained artists playing well rehearsed pandering acts. Just notice the the nice correlation between funds raised and polling "scores" (this is all official data):
http://www.whitehouseforsale.org/index.cfm
I'm not saying correlation equals causation, but the thought that there must be at least a feedback loop involved is inescapable. And this feedback loop does not lie in the same plane as the interests of the average voter. It is a win-win both for the corporations and for the candidate, and the voters are not part of this equation. For the corporations, with lobbying and bundling it's easier to buy legislation than to modify your business. For the candidates it's easier to please a bunch of corporations than to please a whole nation. And for the people it's easier to sit idle and rationalize the choices being made for them by the media, than to start rethinking the whole situation from the ground up and doing something about it. See, it's all about the path of least resistance. It's only natural.- thespiff, on 12/14/2007, -2/+3I hate to criticize you since you come from the right place. I agree that the media picks the president these days. But I'll tell you what the correlation between money raised and polling scores indicates. It means that people donate money to the candidate that they like. So of course the more popular candidates raise more money.
- amesolaire, on 12/14/2007, -0/+8I appreciate that. Please, feel free to criticize. As long as we thread rational waters, I accept criticism as a constructive, positive force. And of course I agree with your conclusion. But is your premise that the media has no role in determining who people end up liking? You can't like someone you know very little about, can you? Are you saying big corporate donation money are entirely spent on emotional motives? Do you imply that very *few* people make their own minds about who they support based on how electable s/he seems to be? Yes, your statement is shallow. It reflects a lack of interest in a person's capabilities, track record, and anything else that candidate has to prove his worth. Did I mention that he PUSHED FOR LAWS TO BAN MIND CONTROL DEVICES IN ORBIT OVER THE EARTH??
You want to take back your comment about him not being a loon now? - jurnei, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2The good Washington and Media do awful things to folks that have the potential to threaten their security of politics as usual. Look closely at what the candidates stand for/ have done/say and vote for what matches closely with what you believe.
Look at what you said above "I like the guy. I like most of his policies." Wow, that was big. What's stopping your consideration, what the media reports?
Today, once again members of the House Judiciary called for the impeachment of Cheney yet it is very hard to find on the internet.
- snkscore, on 12/14/2007, -5/+0Are you insane?
- snkscore, on 12/14/2007, -5/+0Dude... come on.
The whole point is that he ISN'T a qualified candidate. The debate setup rules months ago to define what a "qualified candidate" is, and he didn't meet those qualifications.
Think about it this way, does Dennis have a shot in hell of winning the nomination? No, of course not. But neither does Biden or Dodd, but those 2 could be VP. Dennis have 0 chance of that. So there is no reason to have him in the debates. None.- jurnei, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3He's not a wimp, that's for sure. I see him as much more courageous than the other candidates. Can you see Clinton or Obama speaking strongly at this time? No, they are just flapping their lips and hoping that no one hears anything offensive in the empty air so they still have a chance. That's wimpy in my book.
- TrevaLVF, on 12/14/2007, -1/+5I suppose, it's easy to assume that he's a loon if he has not been given much of a chance to prove otherwise.
- snkscore, on 12/14/2007, -5/+3At first, I thought the "excludes Kucininch" part was a joke, but I realize now it isn't.
There are few things that piss me off more than idiots getting angry about something they have no idea about.
When they setup these debates, they decide on criteria for deciding who will qualify for the debate. Kucinich didn't meet those qualifications (because I believe he didn't have a campaign office in the entire state).
Stop crying about it, this lady had nothing to do with keeping him out.
The only one who kept Dennis out of the race was Dennis. He should have had a campaign office if 1) he wanted to campaign in the state and 2) be included in the debate. - Stereotype77, on 12/14/2007, -1/+9I'd hit it......with a baseball bat.
- londubh, on 12/14/2007, -2/+2What a hillary! If you must know what a hillary is. It's someone who's not quite a bitch and not quite a *****. She's a little of both.

She's a cog in this corrupt system, and she needs to be taken in back of the woodshed and beaten with an Axe handle.
Her being in power has ***** to do with it, she's a *****, and you feel sympathy for her because you might be one too.- hittnrun, on 12/15/2007, -2/+1You are one bad-assed 12 year old. Who-Rah!

- wolfiemouse, on 12/15/2007, -1/+1A friend at wrote this and am passing it on:
Today is the day to make history! Please donate to the Kucinich campaign! (Go to Kucinich.us)
We all know Dennis proudly fights to defend our Constitution. What a better way to show our support and appreciation than making a contribution to his campaign on the anniversary of the Bill of Rights (today)!
If you are not old enough to vote, your voice can still be heard by making a donation!
Please take time today to inform everyone you know about Dennis and ask they make donations as well. Email them videos or sit them down at your PC if you have to. It is all up to us to fight for the country we want. -
