- bearebel, on 11/03/2008, -0/+5Marriage was around long before the bible. If a person wants to marry another person, that should be their choice, provided they are of legal age. The problem with the Republican party is that, while they claim to be fierce individualists, their policies seem to be going the way of restricting individual liberties. I say vote no on Prop 8.
- charm803, on 11/03/2008, -0/+2Prop 1A High Speed Rail Bonds:
NO
As a great idea it sounds and a great investment for our future, our $14 billion deficit shows that we have other priorities to worry about. I don't appreciate government slashing funds for schools or programs for teens, yet wanting to build this high speed rail. We currently have great systems in place, which I've used. This is not a fully thought out plan as it stands. Needs more work before launching this.
Prop 2 Farm Animal Confinement Standards:
YES
We should be beyond barbaric. This is the new millennium.
Prop 3 Children's Hospital Bond:
NO
It would allocate $980,000,000 for 8 private and 5 U.C. children's hospitals. We currently already have $750 million in bonds that were approved for this very matter, and $300 million still remain unspent. Let's allocate those $300 million before adding to California's budget deficit.
Prop 4 Parental Notification of Abortion:
NO
Not everyone comes from a loving home, and this can put the teen in more danger.
I am for preventive measures. We need to protect our teens and invest in contraceptive education. (We all saw how abstinence only programs have failed.) Do I approve of abortions? Of course not! But this is beyond abortions, this is about the safety of the mother.
Prop 5 Nonviolent Drug Offenses, Sentencing & Parole:
YES
When I went to rehab for my depression, I was around alcoholics and drug addicts. Rehab works. We need to separate the druggies from the murderers. Getting them help and a lifestyle change would be a benefit to our society and not a burden to tax payers.
Prop 6 Law Enforcement Funding, Gang Penalties:
NO
Cops do not deserve more funding if they are willing to support yes on discrimination (prop 8.) Cops are there to protect and serve and should be the least discriminatory people out there.
Prop 7 Renewable Energy Standards:
NO
I would like to vote yes on this, but it so badly written that it would monopolize the industry and years from now, energy would be the commodity oil is now. This is truly a bi-partisan effort, as both Democrats and Republicans are opponents. Even the Green & Libertarians are against it. In concept, it sounds good, but in paper, they need to go back to the drawing board.
Prop 8 Same-Sex Marriage Ban:
NO
It is UN-American to treat Americans are second class citizens.
It is UN-Christian to judge.
It people truly wanted to preserve marriage, divorce would be illegal.
Prop 9 Victims' Rights & Parole:
NO
We already have similar laws in place that involve the victims. This would add unnecessary tax payer money to amend a law to itself. It's too similar and all it does is hinder justice to serve itself out.
Prop 10 Alternative Fuel Bonds:
NO
Another potential monopoly that would only benefit corporations. These are great in theory, but if we are to not rely on foreign oil and make the switch to renewable energy, it can't be from one large company getting all the benefit. Boone Pickens, I'm talking to you!
Prop 11 Redistricting:
YES
The commission must include five Democrats, five Republicans and four of neither party. Nancy Pelosi is against this. Sorry, Pelosi, you lost much credibility when you took impeachment off the table. It's obvious that Pelosi does not have the best interest of Californians or Americans. This sounds like a fair compromise, yet Democrats are against it. I'm voting yes, suckas!
Prop 12 Veterans Bond Act:
YES
It authorizes issuance of $900 million in bonds to create a fund that assist veterans who are purchasing farms, homes and mobile home properties. Veterans should be treated as royalty for risking their life for peanuts. If I see a homeless veteran again because this does not pass, I will truly see that America really is about greed.- buckpower, on 11/03/2008, -1/+1YES on 1A

If passed,
This sends a clear message to kids:
It's ok to have as much unprotected sex and as many abortions as you like, and your parents will never know of your high risk behavior.
This isn't about protecting kids from the alleged issue of "Parental abuse", which is not the norm, but this is about protecting children from being abused sexually by older adults, and protecting children from high-risk behaviors.
There's nothing in the measure that says parents must consent, this is only for notification.
So basically under this law, if passed, a sibling, peer or adult can rape a female child, get her pregnant, and the parents will never know of any abuse at all, and the abuser will get off scott free, and is free to do it as many times as they want.
A child is just that, a child, NOT an emancipated minor, and the parents have the right to know if their child is pregnant no matter what the cause.
Vote Yes, and protect our children from predators.
Vote no, and watch abuse, high-risk behavior, increase.
