Bush heckled during July 4 speech
politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com — It's The Fourth of July, but not everyone was in a festive mood when President Bush delivered a speech Thursday at Thomas Jefferson's famous home, Monticello.

- Rally603, on 07/06/2008, -10/+4From an objective standpoint, it's not like they really had anything to say...
Unless you count screaming "WAR CRIMINAL" and "ZOMG FASCISM" over and over - and I don't. They were just being obnoxious. - Jonez176, on 07/06/2008, -2/+1Bush should have asked those people if they had anything to say. If they were just crazies yelling for the hell of it, drag them away. If they were concerned citizens, they deserve to be heard.

- ufia, on 07/05/2008, -29/+5I was about to side with the hecklers until I watched the video. Just a bunch of crazy America haters ruining the Fourth of July for everyone else. Bush seemed like a lovingly decent guy in comparison. I hope the protesters got executed.
- emkaysmith, on 07/05/2008, -0/+13You really got the spirit of the Revolution there, Jethro.
- EricSchC1, on 07/05/2008, -0/+10"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it."
-Abraham Lincoln - fajitamelt, on 07/06/2008, -6/+2EricSchC1
Yeah, they can do that by ***** voting and ***** like that, not acting like an animal. - overridemymind, on 07/06/2008, -1/+5That's exactly the way the founding fathers exercised THEIR revolutionary right....
They did it with voting, and then their tyrannical government said "Oh, we've been doing something bad? Oh, we're sorry -- we'll fix it immediately" and then everyone threw confetti, and set a dove free, and everyone lived happily ever after. The end.
Oh wait! There was a WAR! A bloody, horriffic war where people lost their homes, their limbs, their brothers, and even their lives! When it was all over, the founding fathers got together and pretty much attempted to design a government "By the people, for the people" -- but over time, that government has lost its way.
Yes, people are going to be violently opposed to the way our country is being run, and regardless of what the government does, there will always be opposition.
I'm not supporting screaming and acting like a complete jackass in front of the president to get your point across, I'm merely making a point that, on some things, just sitting back and voting is just not opposition enough. - overridemymind, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1A small adendum to my previous comment:
Sitting back and voting is not opposition enough sometimes. So write your congressman or your senator and tell them you're upset. Protest or march if you like -- don't ruin everyone else's day by ranting like a lunatic.
Cheers,
overridemymind - lbdinh, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1That's funny fajitamelt. You mean voting like the 2000 elections?

I never knew that the president was ever responsible for the deaths of soldiers in battle. You join the armed forces without a guarantee of survival. Tough luck. The president didn't kill you.
- Micetro, on 07/05/2008, -8/+4and you should read Liberal Fascism by John Goldberg, its pretty long so u may want to get started :)
- SuperMoses, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1It's a stupid book that relies too much on labels (ie: liberals, progressives) and ironically fails to understand their origins. Jon Stewart had the best line when eh interviewed Goldberg. "So, because Clinton calls herself a progressive it means she supports Mussolini?"
Someone needs to tell this idiot that words evolve and don't mean what they used to mean. Liberalism for example used to mean something completely different than what it means now. Same goes for conservatism. So tying "progressives" of today with fascist movements in the mid 1900s is a joke.

- hobophobe, on 07/05/2008, -11/+121"To my fellow citizens-to-be: we believe in free speech in the United States of America," the President said as the woman is detained. At least they didn't taze her, though.
Also, had to downgrade from the Flash 10 beta back to Flash 9 to be able to watch the video:
"This CNN.com feature is optimized for Adobe Flash Player version 8 or higher.
You are currently using Flash Player 10"- superkendall, on 07/05/2008, -21/+7They didn't "detain" here - they didn't even arrest her. They asked them to leave.
And for your info, free speech does not mean you have the RIGHT to interrupt the speech of whoever you dislike.- sarge96, on 07/05/2008, -1/+17Mmmmm... they kinda just grabbed her and pushed her out of the rally. And these days, how else can you get public officials to listen without doing something drastic sometimes?
- superkendall, on 07/05/2008, -12/+6You protest outside of where they are, or ask for a meeting. That's usually how real change happens, not ***** stunts that effect nothing.
- fluxion, on 07/05/2008, -0/+12just like they "asked" the guy in the uncle sam hat to leave by pulling him right down off his chair and pulling him out of there.

- m0tbaillie, on 07/05/2008, -1/+10Usually when you use *beta* versions of software it carries with it the notion that it may not be fully stable or universally compatible.
- hobophobe, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1I realize that, I was just commenting on the fact that CNN wouldn't let me find out it was incompatible or not (it probably would have worked).
That and the humor that "version 8 or higher" would logically include version 10:
n >= 8 where n = 10 yields true.

- lbdinh, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Free speech doesn't apply to private property.
Stop confusing free speech as saying anything you want, anywhere you want. They have the right to tell that lady to GTFO because she's in private property that Bush probably rented for the day.
Yea, I know, they forgot to put a sign out front that says "Bush fanboys only".
And if you still think you can say anything you want, anywhere you want, go ahead and go shout "fire" in a movie theater.- dgendreau, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2I wasnt aware that Monticello was private property. Sometimes poeple have to speak truth to power when they see the opportunity.
Most of us are getting a tired of it, but feel free to keep taking it up the ass from Bush if it makes you happy. - avasol, on 07/14/2008, -1/+1I find it difficult to see how anything your President does can be on "private property".
You mean the property you paid for, I take it?
The President works for the people. He's about as public as it can get. Yet, I think we can count the number of times Bush has been opening his mouth in public the last years on maybe 5 fingers, max.

If anything, it at least spoiled the mood of the event for Bush, tainting the "America is fine" image he tried to paint.
- JBish828, on 07/05/2008, -33/+9Freedom of speech can be practiced in a civil way. These people accomplished nothing and just wanted attention.

- jayb1rd, on 07/05/2008, -0/+9Yeah, because, I mean, look at Dick Cheney...he's a BARREL of laughs!
- Jeepinator, on 07/05/2008, -14/+8So you think that basically everybody should be able to yell and jeer at a man while he is giving a speech? That is probably the tackiest and least affective means of accomplishing anything. It makes the protesters look like fools.
- lisaawesome, on 07/05/2008, -2/+12When it's President Bush talking about how we love free speech in America then yes he deserves to be yelled at and jeered. I am generally miss manners and hate when people are rude assholes but this man does not deserve our respect. When our elected officials won't listen to their constituents when we are civil and respectful then what else are we supposed to do? Sit by the wayside while our country gets sodomized by a giant dick brigade?
- scrtyfrk, on 07/05/2008, -2/+4Well, I agree that the man might be a POS... However, how about some respect for the Office and the ceremony he was participating in while this happened?
- jigglebilly, on 07/06/2008, -3/+9How about some respect for the Constitution?
- dacman61, on 07/06/2008, -3/+7I agree... I'm sick of idiots being irresponsible and uncivil during speeches and such. Yes we do have freedom of speech and that is great, but stop being disrespectful. I don't care who it is. Don't be a goof and shout down someone. If you shout down and quiet those who give speeches then you are one who is infringing their right to freedom of speech. Grow up people!
- dgendreau, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3"how about some respect for the Office and the ceremony he was participating in while this happened?"
I'll start showing respect for the office of the president as soon as Bush does. How's that? - WallyAnti, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2Bush doesn't respect the free speech of others. He throws them in jail, establishes free speech zones, etc. So I would say this is fair play in the game he started. He should be shouted down at ever opportunity.
- WallyAnti, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1dacman
Something tells me you wouldn't extend that courtesy to some people in history.
Remember, that although you don't agree, to these protesters, Bush is a reincarnation of Hitler. Would you let Hitler speak his mind? I wouldn't because it's dangerous to humanity as a whole. - scrtyfrk, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1So we descend into anarchy to protect our republic? Where's the logic in that?
If the man is a POS and has failed in his duties, then have your representative in Congress impeach him. Of course, I am about 99.999% sure that your guy is also part of the problem and a POS just like mine.
This is one of the pitfalls of a representative government, that it takes a life of it's own. But it so much more preferable to mob rule. Then again, Washington for the last 40 years or so has been nothing more than mob rule as everything falls back to the people that elected these POS' and don't remove them from office immediately after messing up.
- jonnyboy1544, on 07/05/2008, -14/+5So the Dems putting those protesters behind is a proper interpretation of free speech?
- brokencrystal, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1What makes you believe they are Dems? Maybe they are just Americans who are sick of the immorality and the disregard for the Constitution of the USA by this administration. I am sick of this two party nonsense. We are all losing our freedoms and it doesn't matter if the dictator is Republican or Democrat, they need to keep their oath and follow the Constitution of the United States.
- scrtyfrk, on 07/05/2008, -13/+7Heckling the President of The United States is not execising your freedom of speech. It's showing why some people don't deserve it. What if this person was a diversion for something else.
Protesting in an orderly fashion to demonstrate your view point with civility and restrain does more to advance the cause of free speech and your own cause than yelling at someone from 50 feet away.
As far as I am concerned, she broke the solemnity of a ceremony that should be respected and remembered.- dacman61, on 07/06/2008, -2/+2Agreed.... I replied to someone earlier about being responsible and respectful in regards to freedom of speech and to not shout down other people from speaking.
- Barackalypse, on 07/05/2008, -11/+6Interrupting what someone else is trying to say hardly respects free speech. Its especially amusing that you totally miss the irony of this.
- HappyEngineer, on 07/05/2008, -4/+6The irony here is trite at best. Bush is not exactly repressed when it comes to speech. He has plenty of avenues to get his message out. If he wants prime time coverage of a speech then he can get it.
His words regularly make the news.
Protests have long been seen as an important form of free speech and they are not--and never have been--meant to be convenient for the person or organization being protested. - scrtyfrk, on 07/05/2008, -5/+4The most important part of free speech is understanding that it does not give anyone a license to say just anything at anyone and at any time they want. There's limits to free speech set in jurisprudence and common sense. Common sense here would dictate that in a solemn occasion it is not ok to heckle the President of The United States.
- brightshadow525, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2What scrtyfrk said especially applies when we're talking about the president... Ever heard of something called assassination...? Yea... It can happen... Keeping someone living is more important than letting someone disrupt a speech.
- WallyAnti, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1"in a solemn occasion"
Bush has no solemn occasions. - scrtyfrk, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1It's not solemn for the President but for the people being sworn in as citizens. Most take citizenship in this country as a burden and don't even participate. Some people, however, really want to be part of this country.
- HappyEngineer, on 07/05/2008, -4/+6The irony here is trite at best. Bush is not exactly repressed when it comes to speech. He has plenty of avenues to get his message out. If he wants prime time coverage of a speech then he can get it.

- BarbArt, on 07/05/2008, -21/+36I spent a festive Independence Day with family and friends, BBQ, & fireworks. There was a lot of laughter and sharing. Much of the conversation was about the upcoming election, and thankfully, most of that was excited talk about electing Obama. Now, watching this video, I am reminded about the many times this past 7 years that I have been embarrassed by what comes out of the White House.
I am so proud of what's happening now and look forward to the changes that are coming. I have been embarrassed, angry, and ashamed. I haven't had a good opportunity to protest, but I've damn well wanted to.- o0dhacker0o, on 07/05/2008, -19/+3Aw...poor liberal
- Waiting2awake, on 07/05/2008, -3/+19"I haven't had a good opportunity to protest, but I've damn well wanted to."
Me thinks you lie. The time to protest is when something wrong is happening, you clearly knew something wrong was happening - you CHOSE not to.
Lets not have anymore excuses for anyone. The US is in the mess because the US population was laying down on the job. American soldiers have been killed, because American civilians were too pre-occupied with talent shows to care about why they were being sent to fight. The buck stops at the American civilians. A.K.A you.
I hope you are right about Obama - I don't share your feelings. But your choices are what brought your country to this point, and choices will either condemn you there, or get you out of there...
The only question is whether Obama is willing to lead change - or is he, like the democrat congress prior to him, merely saying what the public wants to hear?
- Jeepinator, on 07/05/2008, -2/+5Politicians will always say what hte public wants to hear. Anybody who thinks otherwise is naive.
- rockon573, on 07/06/2008, -0/+6www.revolutionmarch.com
- BarbArt, on 07/06/2008, -0/+5It's more complicated than that, simpleton. I have skin in the game, so protesting is a bit difficult with a son in Iraq and family members divided. He's there on his second tour, after receiving a Purple Heart for wounds suffered in Fallujah in 2004.
And yes, I have been preoccupied. During the time that George Bush has been in office, I took care of another son who was diagnosed with cancer at age 10. He died when he was 14, in his first year of high school. This would be his first time to vote.
http://www.dannyklancher.com/
My point is not to evoke sympathy. There are many paths to making a difference. I educate myself and others, and advocate for change. And the older I get, the more I realize I have a lot to learn.
I disagree with the worrywarts who see Obama's movement to centrist positions as selling out. His platform from the beginning has been to reach out to Independents and Republicans. How the hell could he do that by sticking with the left? All good candidates anger their base... - kuppoppo, on 07/06/2008, -6/+1Hey friend, it's because of President Bush that you're able to enjoy your Independence Day with fireworks and BBQ. You should be thanking him, you ungrateful sack of *****.

- tiff54, on 07/05/2008, -6/+9"I am so proud of what's happening now and look forward to the changes that are coming."
What changes are coming? Let's be specific. Yes, Obama wants change...but what change? All I hear is blah blah blah Change! blah blah blah Change! The only change I see coming is the loss of freedoms, loss of money, and moral decline.- wtrwlkr, on 07/05/2008, -2/+3I think you're confusing the administration of our future president with that of the present one.
- kuppoppo, on 07/06/2008, -2/+3Well, if you *actually* had intellectual curiosity and simply didn't pretend to have it on a website, you would have read the policies of each of the candidates, knowing full well what the "change" specifically involves.
- tiff54, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0Yes, well I have, and to sum up Obama's policies I've come to the conclusion that Obama's big change amounts to SOCIALISM no matter how you slice it.
- Barackalypse, on 07/05/2008, -4/+3Hope you didn't make any telephone calls, because Obama is supporting the FISA bill which lets the telcoms get away with helping the government's warrantless wiretapping scheme. Of course I doubt your family actually talked about Obama's legislative accomplishments, because none of his supporters actually seem to know what bills he's actually introduced (I hate him and can tell you he co-sponsored one that creates a federal fingerprint registry as part of the mortgage bill).
- kuppoppo, on 07/06/2008, -1/+3Did you actually read the mortgage bill? The federal fingerprint registry introduced in the bill requires fingerprinting for working within the mortgage industry. Currently the state and federal government requires fingerprinting for many jobs including physician, teacher, police, firefigher, and paramedic. The FBI is currently investigating hundreds of mortgage lenders for illegal business practices. Don't you think we need a little accountability in this industry?

- ShadowMerchant, on 07/05/2008, -5/+1Get ready to cry bitter tears, then, when McCain trounces the empty suit by 12 points.
- leob, on 07/05/2008, -4/+1The whole liberal crying for "change" is getting old. Mr "I'll tell you what you want to hear" Obama is not the hyped up vessel of change that the left trying to convey. Your so-called messiah has no experience, no character, and no real plans but to make that next "moving" speech.
I don't understand how he can be for issues like partial birth abortion, same-sex marriage, anti-2nd amendment and then have a religious out-reach program. Wasn't he in the Midwest lately practically applying for the NRA? I have yet to hear a solid plan for this so-called change.
From what I have heard so far I am hearing: higher taxes, bigger government, socialism, and exchanging the values that make this country great for what Europe has to offer. - bigstinky, on 07/06/2008, -0/+5What I don't understand is how anyone would want another four years of the Hell the conservative right has put our once glorious county in. How can anyone stand up in praise for a douche like McCain? I want to see a Dem President, a Dem House and a Dem Senate. I want all of the rich off of Bushs' policies to pay way more in taxes even if I have to pay a little more. I want our soldiers home and an end to this ***** war. I want to see companies that send our jobs over seas to be taxed and penalized to the heavens. I want our country back. If McCain wins it's over for all of us. Are you happy with the country in it's current state? You must be rich then. Change is precisely what we need...And lots of it.
- Kyan, on 07/06/2008, -0/+11. "I want all of the rich off of Bushs' policies to pay way more in taxes even if I have to pay a little more." Fair enough.
2. "I want our soldiers home and an end to this ***** war."
Complete agreement.
3. "I want to see companies that send our jobs over seas to be taxed and penalized to the heavens."
I don't think this one will work. But I'd love to hear how you would like to penalise such companies. I mean, how do you tell an American company to not open a plant in another country? Do you then tell the Japanese to close down their auto plants in the US and take those jobs back to Japan? Or do you want the government to require all goods to be labelled "Made in the USA" and let consumers decide what they support - cheaper goods or keeping jobs in America? Oh wait...
4. "I want our country back." not sure what you mean by this, I'll put it down as rhetoric. - bigstinky, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2"I want our country back" means the country I knew and loved before the Bush regime took over. A country where the middle class still existed. A country where jobs weren't flying across the sea in favor of saving a buck. I have many many friends here in Detroit who've lost their jobs to India. Visteon is my prime example. My state of Michigan is being deluged right now. No jobs, houses in foreclosure, people getting laid off on a daily rate. Something must be done. It surely will not happen with another republican controlled govt.
If I had the power, I would tax any company that chose to close down plants and offices, putting Americans out of work in favor of sending those jobs elsewhere in order to save money. I have no problem with opening plants in other parts of the world if it does not mean we Americans would lose our jobs. You were barking up the wrong tree sir. As for saving money with cheaper goods? Where? With the price of gas these days everything has gone up...mostly bush's cronies bank accounts though. Life is good for them now. Let them foot the bill to fill the deficit we in this country face. They've had it good for a long time now. Big oil really needs to get slapped.
As I said, the rich are not hurt by this and support fully the republican-fascist, big business, big money policies. The rest of the country is being smashed down. It's only going to get worse should this mindset continue to exist.
BTW, I fully understand the business owner needing breaks or possibly face closing down...we in the auto industry can partially blame this on unions over bargaining and putting too much pressure on the company to over pay. This in the long run hurts everyone. Things need to be reevaluated.
I'm just a average guy, working my ass off to support my family. it's obvious to me that a republican gov. does not have me or many of my peers in their best interests. We're paying through our noses right now, it's time the rich start feeling the pinch. I will be out every day pushing and promoting Obama. It is time to end this insanity. He may not be the best man for the job, but that talking head douche mccain is every bit the liar chimp we have in office right now is. And I for one have had enough of it.

- superkendall, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2But it was not public, it was an event. That is the key. They could (and did) stay outside all they liked. They were not even arrested, just asked to leave the EVENT.

Let's not forget that, yes, there is a right to free speech, but there is also a need for that free speech to be carried out in an orderly fashion. Otherwise there would be chaos.

Other countries can see we don't all love this idiot we call president. - whitecranberry, on 07/05/2008, -5/+28Rules by Kings, Ruled by Corporations and Special Interests, WTF IS THE DIFFERENCE!?? You're all ***** slaves, the only thing that has changed is the face of your captor.
- ShadowMerchant, on 07/05/2008, -3/+0The difference is that Kings (and all governments) have guns. Corporations have no power over me except persuasion. Government-fellating left-wingers have a hard time understanding this.
- bigstinky, on 07/06/2008, -0/+5Oh yes they do sir. Do you enjoy paying $4.25 a gallon for gas? You righties think you have all the answers. Why do you all come across as dicks?
- ShadowMerchant, on 07/06/2008, -1/+0We do have all the answers. And we don't care if you think we're dicks. Dicks are typically correct. Why? Telling the truth makes people uncomfortable, and they respond by calling you a dick.
The price of gasoline would still be $4.25 even if we had a single nationalized oil company, I guarantee you. If it were set any lower by fiat, there'd be crippling shortages, rationing, and millions of man-hours wasted in gas lines, just as there were under the price controls of Jimmy Carter. (Now there was a *real* dick.)
I would rather be ruled by the Fortune 500 than by the stupid little children of the Democratic Party. - RyanW2050, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1o snap
- bigstinky, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1Typical dick response. Funny how the rest of the world disagrees with you.
Here's a list of dicks for you:
1. George W Bush
2. His dad
3. Cheyney...Biggest dick ever.
4. Nixon
5. You, Shadow Merchant because your mindset represents everything that's wrong in this country.
It's over for you soon. Enjoy the last days...That is unless your team cheats again. ***** douche.
Your truth is a lie to me. I'm not made uncomfortable at all by your rhetoric Shadow. I call you a dick because you sound like one. What a great representative of "team elephant"...You fit the bill. - obamayomama, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0Typical of bigstinky and his like to resort to name-calling and personal insults... party of tolerance indeed. And as for your "Funny how the rest of the world disagrees" comment, maybe the socialist Europeans you idolize do, but check with the former Soviet block countries that are now enjoying their first taste of democracy and capitalism. They overwhelmingly support the US and Bush because they know firsthand what oppression is.
- clayasaurus, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Same to you.

- VSKBadCRC, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2Maybe it's just me, but when I go to the video link it goes straight to some CNN video about democrats being split up about the war and decisions surrounding it. Was this video removed?
- mohsenxp, on 07/05/2008, -3/+20I love how politicians play the 'ah yes, this protestor can do what he/she wants and I don't mind because we have freedom of speech' card which ALWAYS receives an applause from the crowd (***** sheep) which drowns out the protestor. Irony? Maybe.
- GhostyBoy, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Whoa...can't be true. It makes Bush seem clever.

- blackbamboo, on 07/05/2008, -12/+3so will code Pink protest Obama if he become President and still does not pull the troops from Iraq? Ofcourse not because if you say anything about Obammy you are a racist. Can't protest the messiah or say anything bad about his pastor, or ask why his wife is so angry at whitey, or ask exactly what a community organizer does or is? Can't protest Obammy or you = racist. Obammy is the messiah! these code pink bitches are nothing more than Hitlers Brownshirts. Foot patrols for the coming Facisam where you get to keep your capital but they get to tell you how to use it and what to produce!
- tiff54, on 07/05/2008, -3/+0Exactly! The US is going down the crapper because "sheep" are not willing to do the research behind the candidates before they vote.
- Diggnabbit, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5Yes, people will protest Obama when he becomes president.
People have already asked all of the questions that you're saying they don't/can't ask. So what was your point?
(Of course, the questions have been answered quite reasonably, which you would know if you cared to look for answers instead of just slinging random attacks at faceless caricatures of people with whom you disagree.) - wtrwlkr, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3"these code pink bitches are nothing more than Hitlers Brownshirts"

"Here, in America, We believe in free speech."
With the first impression of Bush saying that, I got the idea that he was saying he had the right to give free speech. And yet that lady was pulled out of the crowd. So surely he wasn't talking about her rights.
Bush has though, on more than one-hundred counts given himself the right to be a dumbass. Even in the category of speech giving.- ez12a, on 07/05/2008, -4/+6more likely she was pulled out for disrupting the event. She had nothing more to say than "war criminal".
if you were there trying to enjoy 4th of July as it is, how annoying would it be to hear "war criminal, war criminal" over and over again. she made her point, now she should sit down!
as for me, i shot off huge fireworks (licensed) for a crowd of at least 1000. if someone came running onto the field with a banner about Bush i would chase him/her off and tell her to GTFO. let everyone enjoy the 4th in peace.- KnightHawk2277, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Anytime is a good time to remind Bush hes a war criminal.
- ez12a, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1i'm not pro-Bush, what i'm saying is to let people enjoy the 4th of July as a holiday. People dont get a day off from work to be reminded what a bad president he is..they already know. If she was left repeating her phrase, someone would have eventually slapped her silly from pure annoyance.
i totally agree with norm7's comment. couldn't have said it better myself.
- norm7, on 07/06/2008, -0/+0Yea, i'm all for heckling Bush, but saying that he doesn't have a right to pull her out of the event is foolish.
If protesters were just allowed to drown out speakers without being removed, then no one would be talking except for protesters, and heckling isn't exactly conducive to the highest level of dialogue. He has a right to free-speech too... unfortunately.
- ez12a, on 07/05/2008, -4/+6more likely she was pulled out for disrupting the event. She had nothing more to say than "war criminal".
- solid12345, on 07/05/2008, -13/+5People yelled this same exact crap about Nixon and Reagan
"He's a Nazi! He will turn America into a fascist country! They are going to start World War III!"
And it never happened.- Diggnabbit, on 07/05/2008, -1/+9It didn't?
- emkaysmith, on 07/05/2008, -1/+16Well, Nixon was forced to resign. Remember? Reagan was more subtle, though his actions were just as illegal. He was also "prettier" and more photogenic than Nixon. And his administration led to the present xenophobic imperialism, so, yeah, I'd say we're now well on the way to a thoroughly authoritarian state. And if McCain and his arrogance and ungovernable temper get into office, we're gonna slip another few rungs down the ladder.
- Anonchrist, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1/sarcasm *

- p0s3r, on 07/05/2008, -17/+3Good thing they didn't say "*****" or "Fag". Because they would've not only been arrested, they would've been flogged and put in prison for hate crimes.

- mohsenxp, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2I think the worst insult for Bush is to just call him by his name. No other insult is befitting.

- Rotzooi, on 07/05/2008, -3/+17Why we haven't gotten rid of this ***** of a President, I'll never understand. Had this been a European administration, the government would haven fallen three months into Bush' presidency.
We respect the Office of the President way too much - and Bush abused that respect.- ShadowMerchant, on 07/05/2008, -2/+2" Had this been a European administration, the government would haven fallen three months into Bush' presidency."
Had your auntie been born with testicles, she'd have been your uncle.
My ancestors left Europe behind, and I am glad they did. We need no lessons in statecraft from the continent that brought us Bonaparte, Louis XIV, Hitler, Lenin, and Stalin.- mohsenxp, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1I agree. Too many people swear an allegiance to the flag thinking it means to the president!
- SpinningHead, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2That continent also brought us the enlightenment which was the seed of our experiment in democracy.
- Sailcats, on 07/06/2008, -3/+0"Had this been a European administration"
...we'd be living in socialism (or worse), have a birth rate in the tank, be losing our culture to other cultures who demand we bend over backwards for them, we'd lack the morality and the will to stand up for what is right, and generally lose our freedoms.
If you want that so badly, just move there. We're not changing the USA into that.- BedPost, on 07/06/2008, -1/+4You're right. Fascism is the way to go.
- SpinningHead, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2Last I checked it was this country that was surrendering its freedoms to fear mongers like Bush. Of course were not so immoral as the Europeans are. The way they work to make sure every kid has a shot at a decent education even in poor neighborhoods is just disgusting and how dare they funnel tax dollars back into the community instead of the noble forthright oil companies.
- Rotzooi, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1I moved there 5 years ago, and I'm glad I did. My quality of life has improved enormously - I'm choosing to be a doctor on normal Euro pay, instead of inflated US pay. And loving it.

- mohsenxp, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2what would you do? Go on FOX news and wait for someone to actually give you airtime?
Request to speak to the president?
What other way is there for an average person to get his/her voice heard?- obamayomama, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0You could set yourself on fire... just a thought.
- SpinningHead, on 07/05/2008, -4/+33She couldn't have picked a better location than Monticello. Jefferson's ghost was probably smiling as she heckled the tyrant.
- Brad324, on 07/05/2008, -0/+31the real news should be that the rest of the crowd sat there politely. This man has treated his citizens with nothing but contempt. He deserves no respect.
- DiggGeek24, on 07/05/2008, -2/+15This is a bad way to protest.
The best way to protest is be professional when I protest I wear a suit and tie. - BillE3, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6I thank my lucky stars that we do have the freedom to speak out on any subject. Some have better manners about it than others, but all of us have the protected rights to speak out. There are places on this earth that you dare not speak out in public against your leadership. When you try to speak out you are removed from the public forum and they simply remove your head to end your voice. I deeply appreciate all the thousands of people that have died to protect our freedoms and rights. Millions of people all over the world have died because they spoke out against the leaders or the church. It is still happening, such as in Kosovo.
- SpinningHead, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2People also need to remember its a right easily lost when not exercised or when politicians instill people with dogmas that say your neighbor is not a patriot because they don't march in lock step.
- crackberri, on 07/05/2008, -15/+2Democrats believe in free speech only when it aligns with their incoherent views.

- ImperialRome, on 07/05/2008, -8/+2The President of the United States is the head of the Federal government, meaning, he is the chief executive of the coalition of fifty state governments that comprise the Union. He's not your representative, he doesn't answer to your will. He's elected by the fifty states, through the electoral college, precisely because of nutjobs and moonbats who would have him removed or impeached because he did something to their displeasure.
The Government of the United States is not some bannana republic that you can choose to overthrow because you don't like the policies. Either work to change those policies through your elected representatives, of shut the hell up. This isn't a democracy.- voteforblank, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1You ever hear of a ***** REVOLUTION!
