Bob Barr Thinking about Entering Presidential Race
ajc.com — On an Internet site called Anti-War Radio, former Georgia congressman Bob Barr confirmed on Wednesday that he ’s very seriously looking at joining the race for the White House as a Libertarian. Barr said a Libertarian candidacy would essentially be an extension of the Ron Paul campaign. Ron Paul tapped into a great deal of that dissatisfaction

I have a lot of respect for Barr being a native Georgian. I don't agree with all of his past legislation with the GOP, but this guy is far and away the closest thing to Dr. Paul we will have to vote for in November and I willing to bet Dr. Paul will throw all his weight behind him and endorse him after the convention and his campaign is officially over. This has some potential.

The whole point of RP staying a Republican was to increase his influence. If he comes out and endorses an LP candidate, he's going to get shafted on his committee assignments.

The current GOP disenfranchises Paul anyway and he has already said publically several times he will not endorse John McCain. Barr was a well respected GOP congressman for a long time until he got tired of the neocons destroying the party. He is still very respected by powerful conservatives. He spoke and introduced Dr. Paul at CPAC this year. Also when Paul released his early March video saying the campaign was winding down he had been meeting with Bob Barr discussing a potential 3rd party run with them sharing a ticket. I don't know but I think they may have decided Paul should stay in the race with the GOP push the message to help get some like minded people elected in the Congress and let Barr make the 3rd party run that Paul considered. Time will tell.

- XxtraLarGe, on 03/27/2008, -2/+7I'd vote for a house plant running as a Libertarian before I'd vote for Clinton/Obama or McCain.
- phenry, on 03/27/2008, -1/+4And you'd get superior governance from said plant in the bargain!
