Bill Vs. Barack
newyorker.com — When Hillary Clinton ’s Presidential campaign was launched, in January, 2007, her supporters feared that Bill would overshadow her, as he had when they both spoke at the funeral of Coretta Scott King, a year earlier. Now the constant fear is that he will embarrass her.

- 1gunners4, on 04/28/2008, -11/+10What about those of us who are scared that a "President Obama" would begin massive regulation of financial and international trade markets, put in a whole-sale homeowner buyout, and increase taxes to the point that the economy tumbles into oblivion?
I love that he wants to make the government transparent once more, while holding everyone in the old administration accountable for their actions, yet every time he opens his mouth about the economy and regulation and buy-outs, it makes me cringe.- mcquitty, on 04/28/2008, -10/+11Be careful, you brought up issues. Bringing up issues may cause you to get dugg down.
- MrErr, on 04/28/2008, -2/+3What about our budget deficit and the falling value of the dollar? I would rather have some regulation and higher taxes if they could balance the budget and prevent the dollar from falling. I think if the government only spends the money they have, then people will hold the government responsible for its policies, because any dumb policy will cost tax-payer. But with a budget financed by borrowings from China, the Government feels it can do as it pleases.
- 1gunners4, on 04/28/2008, -1/+3I'd be curious to hear how he plans to balance the budget while buying out the risky home-owners, closing free trade markets, regulating the financial markets, and raising taxes in a recession. Last debate he got nailed when he said he would raise the Capital Gains tax and it was pointed out that revenue went up when it was originally lowered, and we very well could be in the same situation. Limiting spending and boosting the economy works far better for cutting into the deficit than increasing taxes and increasing spending (withdrawing from Iraq will cost more than staying there currently does, so pulling out of Iraq won't save money until about 5 years, meaning that can't be counted on).
- mcquitty, on 04/28/2008, -1/+4I am all for balancing the budget. In looking at Mr. Obama's energy positions, all I found was spend, spend, spend.
His goals are laudable. I can't figure out where he is going to get the billions needed while not creating a tax burden on the middle class. He lists several goals, but most are going to cost billions. Nine of his energy policies require new spending and new government programs. Why should the federal government try to create locally owned bio-fuel centers? I want efficiency. I don't care if it is owned by a local man or a corporation. Inefficiency is bad.
He wants to tax energy companies. Ok. Nice. Who pays those taxes? ExxonMobil? Nope. The average citizen pays the taxes for every corporation. This will be a tax on the middle class. The only difference is ExxonMobil and Chevron will be collecting it.
He wants tax overhaul. Great. Who thinks he is going to get it? Let me see, there's this large government agency, called the IRS, who will oppose it. How about CPAs? Intuit? H&R Block? Tax attorneys?
I want pork spending to stop. But he doesn't address it. He wants farm subsidies, but only to small farmers. I am sorry, if farmers can't compete, then don't compete. If you can't plant something and make money off it, then don't. And don't ask the government for money to not grow something, either.

Nope. He had the good fortune to have a congress that wouldn't do what he wanted, and the market was able to adapt to the status quo. If he'd succeeded at any of his major policy initiatives, he'd be just like Jimmy Carter.

- stonewaljacksn, on 04/28/2008, -8/+12Clinton ruled as a President, and anyone who disagrees should not be voting for Barack Obama. You are a blind hypocrite if you do. Who gives a ***** what people say, Bill Clinton actually WON the damn thing and we got to see his actions. Barack is a the kind of middle way/moderate Democrat that Clinton was and is. So go ahead, keep talking all your ***** about Bill Clinton, but if you are voting for Barack and doing so I can only imagine that you were born in 1990 and have no clear recollection of the Clinton administration, and thus get caught up in seeing him as some vague Darth Vader type villain. Give it up kids, a Clinton-esque Democrat is who you will be voting for either way come November, so you probably shouldnt be hating on the guy.
- 1gunners4, on 04/28/2008, -4/+5Obama is modeling himself as a moderate-democrat, this doesn't mean he necessarily is one. In 2007, he ranked 99 in the Senate for casting the most liberal votes (100 is most liberal, 1 is most conservative). Independents who really look into his voting record don't see a moderate, which is what he needs to convince people of, especially when going up against McCain (who's record supports his claim).
- apetrie, on 04/28/2008, -4/+5You are ignorant to what "moderate" means. Please educate yourself on the actual political scale, not the screwed up rightist insane scale that has been invented in the U.S. You don't have a a clue what liberal even means. If he is the MOST "liberal" senator its because you don't actually have any "liberal" senators.
- 1gunners4, on 04/28/2008, -4/+5I like how I provide numbers and you provide ad hominem attacks. Obviously, your oratory skills are only matched by your comprehension.
- apetrie, on 04/28/2008, -3/+4The numbers are completely irrelevant to my response. Also, "oratory skills" means public speaking skills, so you might want to edit your little form letter style response. It doesn't quite make sense as it doesn't apply to a written response and I haven't made any speeches. You should work on it a bit so the next time you want to make yourself look intelligent with an insult and someone else look dumb, it'll be more effective. Good luck with that.
- 1gunners4, on 04/28/2008, -1/+1Yet your ad hominems matter more than numbers? How so? Obama has the most liberal voting record in 2007 aside from one other Senator. The very definition of the Moderate is someone who either works with both sides or tends to vote either way. Obama does not do that. If you wish to argue semantics more, at least provide your own support.
- 1gunners4, on 04/28/2008, -4/+5I like how I provide numbers and you provide ad hominem attacks. Obviously, your oratory skills are only matched by your comprehension.
- vertexoflife, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2That study, by the National Journal, was incredibly flawed. Obama more liberal then Ted Kennedy? Yeah. Right.

The fact of the matter is both Bill and Hill will say and do anything to win back the Whitehouse, Both are masters of the flip flop, When Hilary started this campaign she said many times that the people should decide. Now she thinks that the Super Delegates should over turn the popular vote and AWARD her the Whitehouse. Do I really want this person answering the phone at 3:00am. Hell NO! - stonewaljacksn, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1YOU ARE VOTING FOR A PARTY NOT A CANDIDATE. Just because you all have your pride wrapped up with Obama you refuse to realize that he is ALL FOR THE SAME PRINCIPLES AS THE CLINTONS.

- chrissku, on 04/28/2008, -3/+23It really upsets me that the media is portraying this as a close race. Hillary CAN'T catch Obama in the popular vote or the pledged delegate count. The only thing she is doing is hurting her own party. The media is aiding her effort by trying to convince voters that this race is still up for grabs. It's not.....Obama has won the nomination. This whole thing is turning me off from politics.

- PopcornDave, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's in the media's best interest to keep this going as long as they possibly can because it's the juiciest story they've got to sell ADVERTISING TIME and that, unfortunately, is what most all the media is about anymore.

- flink405, on 04/28/2008, -8/+3Go, Hillary, Go!
Why is Obama afraid to debate Hillary? What better way for the whole country to see why he should be President by debating her 1-on-1. No moderators. Just Hillary vs. Obama.- ender7074, on 04/28/2008, -5/+1Because the man can't speak off of teleprompter. Thats why. Oh and the fact Hillary mopped the floor with him last debate. You Obama people better pray that they don't make him debate. You will see what a pile of crap he is then.
- chrissku, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2Afraid? No....you see they have had 22 debates already. The voters know where they stand. Lets get this charade over with now. The sooner Hillary drops out the sooner the Democrats can actually prepare for the real election in November.
- MrErr, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2Because Hillary does not debate policies or government. She likes distractions.
- PopcornDave, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Obama *should* take the debate if only to ask Hillary why she always wears pant suits and does this make her think she's more able to compete in the masculine world dressed like that.
There's no reason for Obama to debate her, no matter what the Clinton supporters say. The person in the lead decides when and where they're going to debate. It's not just Obama, it's every political candidate known to man. - plhearn, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Obama has lost to Hillary in every debate thus far. He knows he can't beat Hillary in a 1v1 debate so his camp will just keep making up excuses as to why a debate isn't important. Quite frankly, its obvious that Obama's campaign is going downhill fast. He couldn't deal with Hillary picking on him before and now that the media has him targeted its more pressure than hes able to handle. Hillary has been ruthlessly hounded up until this point and it hasn't slowed her down one bit. Its a good thing these candidates get scrutinized by the media because the weaker candidates like Obama need to be weeded out.
- ender7074, on 04/28/2008, -3/+5Awwwwww, darling Bill is not the big lib savior anymore? How fast you guys change your tune and turn on your own. Its great to see how the libs operate.
- mlrigsby, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Bill Clinton is not and never was a liberal savior. He is and always has been a moderate conservative posing as a Democrat. I blame Bill Clinton for much of the huge rightward swing in American politics in the last 10 years.

- Homerr, on 04/28/2008, -2/+5It's all about the integrity, stupid. The Clintons have none.

- chrissku, on 04/28/2008, -2/+2...and the Republican party is full of integrity right? Like for example Bathroomstahlhomosexual Gate? Was that an example of Republican integrity?
- JointVenture, on 04/28/2008, -2/+3I'm actually starting to believe that there is a part of Bill Clinton who doesn't want his wife to be president.
