I think talking straight to the American people is a great idea.... in public speeches... and in debates as long as what you are talking about is germane to the question at hand. Sarah Palin is sitting on the largest oil reserve in the world. That's why she was the perfect pick. All that oil and Hillary voters.
McCain may have stooped lower that George W. Bush if that could be possible.
People asked me if I thought that Barack Obama could be the Anti Christ. I said, "Oh no because George W. Bush has to have a monopoly on that one."
Oil and Hillary voters is the only reason Sarah Palin was chosen.

I'm not questioning whether McCain was an honorable veteran; he is one. I just want to know what war Palin was talking about.- thegrantman, on 10/03/2008, -1/+14I laughed out loud when I heard her say that.
Vietnam wasn't exactly what you'd call a win. - frygar, on 10/03/2008, -1/+12McCain knows how to crash jets and get captured by the enemy. That's the kind of leadership our armed forces needs! /facepalm
- NeptuneZen, on 10/03/2008, -9/+2Vietnam wasn't a win but it came close to quote wikipedia:
"On March 15, 1973, U.S. President Richard Nixon implied that the U.S. would intervene militarily if the communist side violated the ceasefire.[125] Public and congressional reaction to Nixon's trial balloon was unfavorable and in April Nixon appointed Graham Martin as U.S. ambassador to Vietnam. Martin was a second stringer compared to previous U.S. ambassadors and his appointment was an early signal that Washington had given up on Vietnam.[125] During his confirmation hearings in June 1973, Secretary of Defense James R. Schlesinger stated that he would recommend resumption of U.S. bombing in North Vietnam if North Vietnam launched a major offensive against South Vietnam. On June 4, 1973, the U.S. Senate passed the Case-Church Amendment to prohibit such intervention."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War#Exit_of_t ...
Nixon won Vietnam and the democrats tossed it away on politics. This is exactly what we don't need in Iraq. We don't need some democrat to come into office and pull out all our troops, and when there is a huge bloodbath of secretarian violence to blame it all on Bush. Have you ever asked yourself why most of our military is republican? We know first hand all of the mistakes made by the democratic party in fighting wars. We also understand that the government does nothing efficiently. This is why we vote for republicans we want a smaller government and a strong military, and we want someone with a backbone to run it. - lostarchitect, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3I can only assume they mean the 1st gulf war? He was in the senate at that time.. But calling Vietnam a win would be really laughable.
- thegrantman, on 10/03/2008, -1/+14I laughed out loud when I heard her say that.
- Reynardine, on 10/03/2008, -0/+10The best that BBC could say about Palin was that she proved more competent than Tina Fey's parody. No, really. Her "strongest moments" purportedly came from making emotional appeals rather than answering questions:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7649888.stm - rento, on 10/03/2008, -4/+5I was underwhelmed at Biden performance. This woman was allowed to rebuild her image while Biden should have said exactly what she is worth.
What is wrong with the Dems able to put a compelling argument only outside debates?
If I would have been on that podium I would have told that she is not a keen mother by charging women for rape kits, denying violated teenagers a morning after pill even if the bastard was her father, letting her own state being savaged by crystal meth and taking 500mil of taxpayers money.
And what about her political knowledge Biden only questioned her on Iraq and she gave a fits-all answer which rimed with "I have no clue" but that was it. Biden was hitting McCain but the subject of the matter there was Palin.
WTF I am disappointed he still won but allowed Palin to rebuild her image on a highly visible stage, this should have never happened. Ignorant people and believe you me there are lots in US have seen this and probably thanking the redneck god for Palin.
*seriously pissed*- thegrantman, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3Biden was told not to be condescending towards her.The campaign managers didn't want him to appear as if he was picking on her.I think it was the wrong decision.
- SammyJr, on 10/03/2008, -0/+6I agree with your questions, but they might have backfired.
If Biden was too hard on her, it might bring out the sympathy vote. You know, the big bad old man coming down on hard on the mother of 5. Some people, for whatever reason, identify with Palin and they might feel that Biden was coming down on them as well. - daimposter, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1although Biden failed to to take full advantage of Palin's mistakes and inexperience, i wouldn't say he lost. He still easily won the debate by actually providing detailed answers to most questions unlike Palin who sidesteps some questions by using her skills with rhetoric. - evodude, on 10/03/2008, -2/+1Saying nucular implies a lack of understanding of even the simplest principles of the bomb. If you know that the bomb works by splitting the nucleus of an atom, then you'll know that anyone who says nucular is moron. Being that even vaguely knowing how the most powerful weapon in existence works is an important part of making a rational, informed decision on it's use, I would say that using the proper pronunciation is kind of a big deal.

First of all, I didn't say WE end up using nukes - I said nukes might end up being used - BIG difference.

Because that can only happen if McCain is in the White House? Seriously WTF is that about?
You might as well make an asinine claim like "when Obama is sworn in, all the world's enemies will lay down their guns and embrace each other with love".
@evodude
Much like pronouncing it to-mah-to rather than to-may-to implies a lack of understanding of even the simplest principles of food and nutrition. Pronunciation has no bearing on anything. If that was the case, people in New England don't understand the concept of a car, or a yard.
Apparently some people love nitpicking.

Not defending it...I'd love to see the GLBT community get their deserved rights...and I'm not even gay.
But, the Obama/Biden side is definitely more hospitable towards gay marriage than McCain/Palin would be.

- MrTea, on 10/03/2008, -0/+7What they need to do at the official (govt.) level is take the whole religious aspect out of the whole thing by calling it a civil union and let couples and their friends call it whatever they want at the social level.
- chadsmith729, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Very well said. Arguably one of the best comments on this entire page.
- pavanb500, on 10/03/2008, -0/+7Another thing..he clearly outlined how they should have rights and such, but she carefully worded her answer..the only part she said she agreed with was the lack of marriage part.
Additionally, even though I don't even think I can name a single homosexual friend/co-worker (I lived in Iowa...diversity vacuum), it still annoyed me that she used the word "Tolerate" many times on the issue...basically implying that she'll put up with it because she has to.. Than and she's a slunt.
- OrdinaryPanda, on 10/03/2008, -5/+77Government should never be in the business of marriage. Marriage is a title of a union bestowed by a church. Everyone should be getting "Union Certificates" from their local gov't, and getting MARRIED at their church. If a gay couple can find a church willing to marry them, that is their prerogative, IMO.
- sugarazor, on 10/03/2008, -0/+20Fine with me, then we need to eliminate all forms of the word "marriage" from government. If gay people have to call what they do in their bedroom a "civil union," then so does everyone else.
- kinseyincanada, on 10/03/2008, -0/+13well fine then tell your damn government to make civil unions legal then.
- chaosblade77, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5I thought Civil Unions did allow for homosexual couples, at least in some states? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, but a guy I know brought up a point about how very few gays actually care to see "Gay Marriage" legalized, since a non-religious alternative already exists.
It was a while back though, so I don't remember the details. - sugarazor, on 10/03/2008, -1/+4A couple states allow civil unions, but the contract is void if they move to another state. So if you're married in Massachusetts and your spouse is hospitalized in Kentucky, you can't visit them.

a. The legal union of two people in a romantic relationship.

2. A wedding.

does anyone see anything even remotely relating to any religion in there????? - inkswamp, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3> Marriage is a title of a union bestowed by a church
Really? You mean you can get legally married without ever involving the government at all? I've never heard about this. Care to elaborate? - bdit1200, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1Marriage is over-rated. I tried it once. ...take the civil unions.
- jdmCrush, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Do you really think it's the job of religion to say weather or not two people who love each other can get married?
Seriously... - mnemy, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1Excuse me, but I will not get "Married" in a church because I am not religious. And I will be "Married" because that is what this society calls a commitment to be with your significant other for the rest of your life.
Saying marriage is a religious term is retarded and extremely close minded. Gays should be allowed to "marry" as well. Does it somehow devalue your "marriage" when same sex couples have the same title? If it does, you're extremely self-centered and a bad person.
- algaeturd, on 10/03/2008, -1/+4Well, neither does Fox News.
- soot, on 10/03/2008, -3/+20Technically, "marriage" is not the federal government's business to tamper with at all.
What they can do, and what Obama and Biden want to do is to strengthen civil union laws so that gay couples can recieve the same benefits of and be seen the same way in the eye of the law as married couples. But marriage in itself is a construct of institutions such as the church, and not of the state.. - Berkana, on 10/03/2008, -1/+20As far as I could tell, Biden was for granting gay couples visitation, property, and inheritance rights, but wasn't for calling it "marriage." If the rights are there, whether people call it marriage or not is really inconsequential for any gay couple who takes part in civil unions.
- Velnich, on 10/03/2008, -0/+7A civil union is better then nothing, but there's no good reason not to call it a marriage if you are going to take it that far. Best solution is to leave civil unions to the government to be offered to gay and straight couples and for "marriages", people can seek their houses of faith.
- AppleMacStud, on 10/03/2008, -33/+3Thank God. That is a good thing. Two men swapping fluids is gross in every sense of the word.
- BoSuu, on 10/03/2008, -0/+7I find it a bit gross as well, but that doesn't mean I don't support gay marriage.
- AppleMacStud, on 10/03/2008, -14/+2LOL. So you find that smearing sh*t across your face is gross but that doesn't mean you would object to using it as tooth paste?
Wow, you can't make this stuff up. ^__^ - fadeddragon, on 10/03/2008, -1/+1No he means hes not an intolerant *****.
- plhearn, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3Wow what a horrible analogy. No reason gay people shouldn't be able to get married. Not like its gonna make a difference about whether they do gay stuff or not. You're just a homophobe.
- SilentRamble42, on 10/03/2008, -1/+1I love that I just got to report AppleMacStud twice.
- AppleMacStud, on 10/04/2008, -1/+1Good luck with that one sweet cheeks. I've been reported hundreds of times. ^__^
Oh and by the way... you're blocked. :)
- Mujokan, on 10/03/2008, -2/+17No-one who supports gay marriage will get within spitting distance of the White House.
I know, I tried. My case comes up in six weeks.- BoSuu, on 10/03/2008, -1/+4sadly you are right :(
- AppleMacStud, on 10/03/2008, -23/+1That's good to hear. I hope you and the other sodomites fail every time. :)
- Mujokan, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3lol
Supporting gay marriage doesn't make you an inhabitant of Sodom, or even of Gomorrah.
If you don't like it, you should support gay marriage. I think most of us have found that once you get married the sex drops off something frightful.
- NecroDigg, on 10/03/2008, -23/+6Neither do I. ***** *****

NecroDigg reported. - NecroDigg, on 10/04/2008, -1/+1@VanishingLex, in that case I reported you for infringing on my right to have an opinion.
- VanishingLex, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1I didn't infringe your right to have an opinion. You don't however have the right to express an offensive comment on somebody elses website where the terms prohibit it. Unless you run digg that is....
- nedzeve, on 10/03/2008, -1/+1At least they don't admit it they support it. On the other hand, neither of them admit to being homophobic.
- yacks, on 10/03/2008, -1/+7Actually read the transcript of the debate.. Biden is not for gay marriage in terms of the government regulating it and does not think the government has any say in it..
BIDEN: No. Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage. ***We do not support that. That is basically the decision to be able to be able to be left to faiths and people who practice their faiths the determination what you call it.*****
The bottom line though is, and I'm glad to hear the governor, ***I take her at her word, obviously, that she think there should be no civil rights distinction, none whatsoever, between a committed gay couple and a committed heterosexual couple. If that's the case, we really don't have a difference.***
Palin rebuttal
IFILL: Is that what your said?
PALIN: Your question to him was whether he supported gay marriage and my answer is the same as his and it is that I do not.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/02/debate.tran ... - inkswamp, on 10/03/2008, -1/+1Be careful about judging politicians for what they say during debates. They sometimes have to parse their words to a ridiculous degree, and during presidential elections especially, a candidate must be cautious not to say anything that will chase away potential voters from the other party. I'm certain that Obama and Biden are both far more open to the concept of gay marriage/rights than McCain and Palin, but he's not going to be too emphatic about that when he knows that Republicans are watching the debates and many are looking to vote against more of Bush's policies. The last thing he wants to do is scare them off by appearing too liberal on that issue especially.
- jacquesm, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2yes, because of course you want the voters no matter what your stance is ?
Come on, grow some backbone and get a principle (or two). Democracy is all about stating your views and then getting people to vote for you because of your views. Excessive parsing of your words may increase the vote by a bit but it really makes the word-parsers look like they would do anything to get voted in to office, especially twist about their stance on subjects.
There ought to be a law against that. - inkswamp, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1> Come on, grow some backbone and get a principle (or two).
Not sure why you're attacking me for that. I have plenty of principle, thank you very much, but what I described is sadly part of the political process, for better or worse. And much of the blame shouldn't be put at the feet of the politicians, but rather at the feet of the fickle public who *will* judge a candidate primarily for one or two statements they don't like instead of looking at the details and trying to understand their policies and positions. Why attack me or some word-mincing candidate when it's largely caused by a batch of voters out there waiting to pounce on the wrong thing said about gays or abortion or guns? I agree it's ***** stupid, but there's a lot of people out there doing it and politicians have to deal with it.
- jacquesm, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2yes, because of course you want the voters no matter what your stance is ?

We surely have more things to worry about right now than a "Who's Who" of getting married.

- ChinezePanda, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1They even said it themselves.
Their religious views do not reflect the constitution of the united states nor would it influence it.
Peoples personal choice is their own choice.
It is why we separate church and state - dalnet22, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Marriage is defined in religious context as man and woman. That will never change. What could change is the legal contract binding two people together being separated from matrimony. Allow marriage and legal contracts.
- harajukukei, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2marriage is a church thing.. its not the government's business to say who can and can't be "married". As long as everyone is given the same rights, gay people can only argue with the church. All of us, gay or straight should be recognized legally as a civil union when we decide on a life partner. The idea of "marriage" should be uniquely a church matter, and have no bearing on us from a legal standpoint.
- jacquesm, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3I've been married, never saw a church on the inside. I think you're wrong.
- jdmCrush, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2It's a political thing. McCain clearly is against it, but if Obama/Biden was for gay marriage, it would loose them the race- it's not a battle worth fighting for them. Sad, but true.
- Gemfinder, on 10/03/2008, -3/+41I agree, it's sad to hear that Biden was against it but keep in mind he's staunchly Catholic. And if past history is anything to go by, I'm sure the Mother Church is getting ready to do a Kerry on him, "Denounce abortion or we'll deny you the sacraments." Not defending it...I'd love to see the GLBT community get their deserved rights...and I'm not even gay.
- magoghm, on 10/03/2008, -3/+38Sarah Palin: "It is a crisis. It's a toxic mess, really, on Main Street that's affecting Wall Street. And now we have to be ever vigilant and also making sure that credit markets don't seize up. That's where the Main Streeters like me, that's where we would really feel the effects."
A toxic mess on Main Street that's affecting Wall Street? That explains why the taxpayers should bail out Wall Street :)- OrdinaryPanda, on 10/03/2008, -0/+11I noticed that little jujitsu flip on responsibility for this mess. The banks made the rules and lobbied for playing this close to a fiscal cliff, not "Main Street" folk.

- financedude2, on 10/03/2008, -2/+1Just like McCain kept saying he'd increase the tax dividend (he meant deduction, supposedly.) He said it at least twice as well as referring to it as the "child divident", which ought to be dependent as it can apply to those who aren't children as well. This lack of comprehension in even the basic tax law makes me believe that this ticket (because it's obvious Palin doesn't know anything except for energy rhetoric) lacks any financial knowledge. I lost a lot of money this year. The Republican party won't get my vote this year.
- Ultage, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4Shes a ***** millionaire! Main street my ass...
- wendelgee2, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4The fact is, her sentences are a vomited stew of buzz words. Anyone actually trying to parse them will find ALLLL sorts of contradictions, errors, and non sequiturs. But that's not how it works. The buzzwords tap into a pre-existing narrative, so we think we understand what she's saying, when in fact she's said nothing at all.
It's a hell of a racket, really.

- zmjone2992, on 10/03/2008, -0/+9Dude we own online polls.
- DiggityDugged, on 10/03/2008, -2/+8Yeah, places like 4chan definitely ruin their authenticity, but what's scary is that, despite heavy foulplay by 4chan, the MSNBC poll tonight remained the same. Biden was at 52% of the poll votes for well over an hour of foulplay. Are there really that many Palin supporters out there to cancel them out? Scary.
And while I'm on the topic -- I highly dislike how MSNBC's poll has 4 options -- Biden, Palin, Neither, Tie. I'm sure tomorrow they'll just mention Biden winning with 52% of the vote, not mentioning that Palin only had 38%, not the implied 48%. So misleading.- financedude2, on 10/03/2008, -4/+1How does Neither and Tie equate to a Palin vote? That's not misleading, only the fact that it's not an accurate scientific poll because of the sampling method.

- HansFriedman, on 10/03/2008, -7/+3Really? Its still about 60 to 40 for Biden, guess you cant say Fox isnt Fair and Balanced anymore.
- brstilson, on 10/03/2008, -1/+6Actually, what Fox does when a poll doesn't show the results they want is to heavily stress that it is not a scientific poll and has absolutely no validity whatsoever. Of course that leads to the question of why even have a poll in the first place if it's not going to represent real-life, but I suspect the average viewer of Fox News doesn't think that far.
- bjornski, on 10/03/2008, -1/+7It will be reported tomorrow as a stunning victory for Palin by Hannity, Hume, Cavuto and the "Fox Friends".
- bleh19799791, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2LOL I watched the Hannity show after the debates to get his SPIN on it and they were circle jerking on Palins STYLE, and telling it how it is and saying how Biden looked like he was sleeping? Freedom of speech is not welcome if Sean Hannity. cherub man or O'Reily have any chance to yell at them.

Buried as inaccurate.- BoSuu, on 10/03/2008, -1/+7I am confused. I am looking at a large majority of people in the poll supporting Biden. That being said, online polls about who won the debate have to be taken with a grain of salt.
- binky79, on 10/03/2008, -4/+2I support Biden as well. It is inaccurate because the title would lead you to believe that THE Fox news national poll is leaning toward Biden. Not some affiliate station. It's all in the phrasing. The title and description say "The" Fox news poll, not "A" Fox news poll.
- OpaqueMurdock, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5http://elections.foxnews.com/
As near as I can tell, its on the main site. The "detroit" button you see I think links to a blog on an affiliate site. its the "question of the day" so it may be gone soon and I think thats why the submitter took a screen shot.
- binky79, on 10/03/2008, -0/+12Go ahead and digg me down. I just went to http://elections.foxnews.com/ and sure enough at the bottom of the page the poll shows Biden ahead. My apologies to you BoSuu and to fjf314 for burying your story. Kill Me. No Funeral.

- DiggityDugged, on 10/03/2008, -2/+3One of two things about this poll is true. When the votes came in so fast, it gave an error screen popup to users, but only for votes for Biden. So . . .
A) Either SO many people were voting for Biden, that Fox's servers couldn't handle it, and some votes were lost. Or . . .
B) They rigged the servers so that people would vote for Palin.
I'm leaning heavily towards A), but it's sad when a supposedly reputable mainstream media site has such crappy servers that they can't even run a roll. MSNBC's poll has over 500,000 votes so far, whereas Fox only has over 100,000. Fox should be ashamed, they deserve their small readership.- powatom, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Since when was Fox News EVER 'supposedly reputable'?

- peter3118, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1The Drudgereport is a right-wing blog...so what do you expect? That is like going to michaelmoore.com and being surprised to find that democrat/moderate/progressive candidate won a poll on his site.
- brstilson, on 10/03/2008, -3/+6Two words: Dan Quayle
- IllBeBack, on 10/03/2008, -15/+11Are we counting local Fox affiliates as being "Fox News" now?
I don't think so. But I agree that Biden won, only because Sarah Palin is such a ***** stupid moron.
Every time she said "new cue lur" for "nuclear", thousands of my brain cells died.- Alienkid, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2On twitter Leo Laporte predicted that she would say "New cue lur"
- suburbanWMD, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3"Are we counting local Fox affiliates as being "Fox News" now?"

- Commodore84, on 10/03/2008, -10/+26I have a feeling moveon, HuffPo, Thinkprogress, Raw story, etc. sent out the link and asked people to vote, because she won the text message vote by over 80%.
- Digger1123, on 10/03/2008, -1/+5Exactly my point, and that was about 1,000,000 votes, not 42,000
- Asheis, on 10/03/2008, -1/+7Like American Idol!
By the way.. what text message vote?- kigcoopa84, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2CNN and MSNBC both had text message votes as well
- topsax, on 10/03/2008, -16/+5The media will not win this election. If anything the media will lose this election for Nobama. Until the fat lady sings there is not a damn thing the liberals or their BS polls can do about it. The more the media goes in the tank for the MEssiah the more the moderate Democrats, Independents, and Republican will turn out in force.

It is going to be a BIG fall for his highness the BO."- HangerBaby, on 10/03/2008, -1/+5Fail, you just made your entire post about hating left-wingers without mentioning one think Barack is talking about doing. We now know where you are in regards to education and bias.
- FredFredrickson, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2If you want people to take you seriously, link to real news, and don't come up with stupid nicknames for people, alright?
