- glibpaxman, on 06/08/2008, -0/+1Every day I am reminded that leaders are only as good as their staffs. You can hate Bush or love Obama, and you can put responsibility on both of them for choosing the staffs. But the Clintons show that staffs can work out in one instance and not another. Many of Hillary's tactical, strategical and even ethical blunders were direct consequences of her staff feeding her bad information.
My parents are good friends with the ex-CIA director Porter Goss, and because they heard from him that George Bush is a generous and decent human being they believe that he can do no wrong. I believe that Bush is a good person but many times it is the people behind the throne who make decisions and shape policy.
We need to be more aware of this when future Presidents choose their closest advisers. - Pherdnut, on 06/08/2008, -0/+1BS. A good leader takes advice from but ultimately sets the tone/direction of his/her staff and stays consistent with that because it's what they believe in. A bad leader allows the opposite to happen and lets "the experts" tell them what the American people want to hear and see. Total BS.
It's no coincidence that the winner had a "no drama" policy that resulted in a mere 2 firings of upper echelon campaign staffers, which is almost miraculous for a presidential campaign.
Hillary chose her staff unwisely and unwisely allowed herself to be ruled by that decision. If she had the right stuff, she would have been able to gauge the mood of the American public as well as its diminished capacity for *****. She should have recognized that her image was never really in question until she tried to bolster it with garbage.
