- bdfariello, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6@Roman: dugg you because your "full of them" was to reiterate the first comment that the country is full of wacko's and that karakh was proving that point. It seems there are many that didn't understand that.

- mrASSMAN, on 11/10/2008, -1/+3No he's right.. look at Tupac. That guy took like 10 bullets before he went down.
- MonTheBuds, on 11/09/2008, -28/+102Most of them were in the crowd at Mccain's rallys. Some of the blame would have to lie with Mccain if anything ever happened to Obama as his campaign were responsible for spreading lies like this: http://www.conservapedia.com/Barack_Obama
- NachoBusiness, on 11/09/2008, -4/+73Wow, that article is truly horrible. It should really be called neoconservapedia... that kind of partisan hackery is an insult to conservatives and traditional Republicans.
- kris33, on 11/10/2008, -6/+131"Obama will likely become the first Muslim to be sworn in as President, on January 20, 2009, and could use the Koran for this purpose as a Congressman did. "
"Obama is the first person having ties to a known terrorist to gain control over America's nuclear weapons."
"Obama has consistently shown himself to be an elitist who looks down on "ordinary" Americans."
"Obama is pro-abortion."
WOW, this site consists of pure *****. - ThsGuyRightHere, on 11/10/2008, -2/+48"...and could use the Koran for this purpose as a Congressman did"
Funny that conservapedia would mention this, when an email forward that almost certainly originated from someone in the Republican Party or the McCain campaign claimed that Obama was sworn into Senate using the Koran instead of the Bible (of course that wasn't true, that was a reference to a congressman).
Looks like someone is having trouble keeping track of which lies they've told. - maxgoedjen, on 11/10/2008, -1/+34Holy crap, that site is like encyclopedia dramatica, except they actually believe the stuff in their articles.
- eir574, on 11/10/2008, -1/+28I thought conservapedia was supposed to be an unbiased answer to wikipedia. How can people claim that (without laughing) when it contains such crap as things that *might* happen?
- mrsteveman1, on 11/10/2008, -2/+55conservapedia is what happens when ignorant hicks have access to technology
- groo68, on 11/10/2008, -1/+25I spotted one black person in the McCain crowd, I felt like I was the where's waldo champion.
- Ahnteis, on 11/10/2008, -0/+25>>and could use the Koran for this purpose as a Congressman did.
Sad thing is that this even matters to people. - chaon93, on 11/10/2008, -4/+8>>"Obama is pro-abortion." i think that one is actually true, that must mean they all are!!!
/sarcasm - fumar, on 11/10/2008, -5/+4@kris33
Obama is pro-abortion also known under the guise of the PC term pro choice.
In my opinion every politician that makes it to Washington is an elitist.
Obama does have ties to a known terrorist, William Ayres, its just those ties were from a long time ago.
The muslim ***** is just people being bigots/crackers.
The best is "Aunt is in the United States Illegally". Oh ***** now he's definitely unqualified! Most irrelevant point ever... - lamiaconfitor, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8Conservapedia is a joke, like Uncyclopedia, right?
- Angostura, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4fumar "pro choice" is not a synonym for "pro abortion". I don't "like" abortion, and I would hope that proper contraceptive education and advice can minimise the need for it. Nonetheless, there are many circumstances where an abortion is preferable to the wrecked lives that bringing a pregancy to term would cause.
- itsthebrod, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8LOL, oh yes, Conservapedia... The same "encyclopedia" whose article on evolution starts out with an image of Hitler: http://www.conservapedia.com/Evolution
What's sad is that unlike Encylopedia Dramatica or Uncyclopedia, this ***** is not trying to be funny. It's just downright idiotic. It's the internet's equivalent of the creation museum. - Digger1123, on 11/10/2008, -4/+2All but the first claim are true.
- NachoBusiness, on 11/09/2008, -13/+100This country is full of superfluous apostrophes too, apparently.

- hungryduck, on 11/09/2008, -17/+11Tighten security. There are so many really misinformed people out there.
- NachoBusiness, on 11/10/2008, -3/+21In the past few decades, most people who've made serious or quasi-serious attempts to kill presidents haven't been misinformed... they've been crazy. It's not really political ideas or ignorance... it's insanity.
- fuzzybeard, on 11/10/2008, -1/+8Also, bear in mind that damn near ALL assassination attempts that get so far as to have an agent of the Presidential Protective Detail call "GUN!" have been the work of *one* person. One seriously mentally ill person.

- slearwig, on 11/10/2008, -16/+4It's a shame we couldn't say the same if it happened to Bush, now isn't it?
- fuzzybeard, on 11/10/2008, -2/+15No; because then we'd be stuck with Bush's puppetmaster, Dick Cheney. After Cheney, Nancy Pelosi.
- ak666jk, on 11/10/2008, -5/+10I feel MLK did a lot more than Obama, and then all that he spoke of was kind of thrown away later, considering everyone's talking about Obama's race.

- WoundedCow, on 11/10/2008, -1/+37I'd disagree that this country is full of wackos, I think, for the most part, the USA is full of people who just want to go about their day, earn a decent living, raise a good kid or two, enjoy their two weeks off...the problem is that it'd take just one wacko who has some mental imbalance to give the rest of us a bad name.
- jeremyosborne81, on 11/10/2008, -0/+13"I think, for the most part, the USA is full of people who just want to go about their day, earn a decent living, raise a good kid or two, enjoy their two weeks off...the problem is that it'd take just one wacko who has some mental imbalance to give the rest of us a bad name."
That's pretty much EVERY country. - EarlOfLade, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3No, this country is full of crazy wackos, much more than in any other country I have lived and worked in. It's like stupidity put into system and researched into it's purest form and then taken to the streets.
- arcangelgabriel, on 11/10/2008, -2/+41I'm embarrassed to say that the 'coon' jokes are flying around the office.
I'm ever amazed at the smallness of people's minds when it comes to this stuff and I for one am pretty goddamn sick of this US vs. THEM *****.
Grow up America.- twitrock, on 11/10/2008, -0/+22Stand up to it and not just listen to it. Until everyone takes their part in making a stance...it will continue.
- groo68, on 11/10/2008, -1/+8I'm sure Obama's term(s) in office will do a lot to either dissolve racism or make it much worse. But if he does a good honest job, which i think he will, it should dissolve racism a huge amount.
- bejayel, on 11/10/2008, -1/+16I am in Canada and i have heard a few of these and i stood up for him. Fundamentalists seriously have no ***** clue.
Billy "Hey Joe, that ***** should be exterminated. God would have never allowed such a thing in this country"

***** hypocrites. - toetagger, on 11/10/2008, -1/+8Tell them to stop or they''ll be reported to HR. Period!
- pnunn, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1It is not ok just to sit there. Every second you remain silent they think you might agree. Be ashamed and be vocal about it. Silence costs this country far more than a few short arguments and dirty looks at the water cooler.
I say it not just as an observer, but as someone who is not speaking with family members and certain neighbors after standing up to them on similar issues. It sucks- but at least they know there's one more person who thinks they are retarded. Please help me make it a million!
- LaXXPlaya911, on 11/10/2008, -19/+12the funny thing is everyone acted like mccain was more likely to die, which was ridiculous because he is completely healthy and most people at least live into their eighties today, when really obama was far more likely because so many people will want him dead.
- groo68, on 11/10/2008, -1/+11McCain may potentially have been fighting cancer, he looked like he was anyway.
- bhaity, on 11/10/2008, -3/+30rather have biden than palin as president
- mrraven200, on 11/10/2008, -0/+12McCain is not "totally healthy" he is a 72 year old 4 time cancer survivor just about on deaths door. We are very lucky he didn't win the Presidency. I crossed over from Green the first time since 1992 and voted lesser of two evils because Mr. death warned over + Moosolini was more than I could stomach.
- soogy, on 11/10/2008, -9/+18You really think George W. Bush doesn't get this many death threats? Please, half the country thinks he's a ***** moron who cost them in some way, be it money, a job, a family member, a friend -- something. At least some of those guys must have threatened Dubya.
The media just sensationalizes this because Barack Obama is black. He's just as secure as Bush is, if not moreso.- ubuwalker31, on 11/10/2008, -4/+24I'm sure that G.W. got a lot of death threats, but I'm positive that they didn't all come from domestic terrorists like the KKK, Skin Heads, etc, who actually follow through on their threats.
- IndigoMoss, on 11/10/2008, -0/+13I'm going to have to agree with ubuwalker31 on this one. Most of the people that would actually threaten Bush are people not likely to do anything, such as hippies. There's a lot of hate groups out there that really and truly want him dead. They're pretty much terrorists who profess to love Jesus, but in fact, are everything Jesus DOESN'T stand for.
I mean I dislike Bush a lot, and I'm sure many Diggers here do also, but I don't think we'd see any Diggers suicide bombing/headshotting from the grassy knoll.
At the same time, I think he'll be pretty safe. Secret Service now a days is absolutely amazing compared to even 15 years ago. - bigbangbuddha, on 11/10/2008, -2/+6Hmm let me sum up what I'm hearing:
Death threats vs Bush = Hippies, too stoned to act.
Death threats vs Obama = Rednecks, too dumb to succeed.
Sheesh, good thing Nader didn't get in, he'd be in real trouble.
/s - mrhedges, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6I doubt Bush received 500+ death threats before he was officially in office.
- itsthebrod, on 11/10/2008, -3/+4Most of the people that dislike Bush attempt to use their brains to criticize him and their words to show disapproval. Most of the people that dislike Obama are insane, racist nutjobs who lack brains and instead want to show their disapproval via assassination. Big difference.
- dsmx, on 11/10/2008, -1/+4G.W.B. has cost the US trillions of dollars, bankrupted the nation, destroyed the US image abroad, tied up the armed forces for potentially decades, increased terrorism here and abroad, destroyed environmental regulations, destroyed the value of the dollar and to cap it all off people still think he needs to be in office.
- diggduggjoe, on 11/10/2008, -36/+8I will guess, if Obama gets killed, it will be a lone black man!
The man of hope has oversold and when he fails to deliver, we will see how well his supporters take it.
Obama is a CFR lackey. Will will not leave Iraq and we will still be on track to fascism. His socialist selling points are just part of a bait and switch. - ngmcs8203, on 11/10/2008, -8/+11He does, but the secret service is already doing a pretty extensive job at keeping him safe. Check out the photos of his secret service team during the campaign. Guys in the back of SUVs with machine guns, guys searching for possible snipers, etc.

- dsmx, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6A terrorist is a convenient label that governments use to describe anyone who doesn't agree with them.
- pnunn, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1I thought a terrorist was anyone Sarah Palin doesn't like...
- robbiedo, on 11/10/2008, -2/+13I am less concerned for his safety, which I hope the SS takes care of. I am more concerned about a "Timothy McVeigh" case of domestic terrorism. Especially, a case of domestic terrorism designed to appear of foreign origination designed to weaken the president.
- slezzzter, on 11/10/2008, -10/+3SS? Really? I think it's still a little too soon to refer to the protective service of our government as the SS.
- Charlotte_Web, on 11/10/2008, -14/+13Funny, diggers were largely unconcerned with all of the death threats that President Bush received. There was even a movie made about the assassination of Bush.
- TheOneTrueGod, on 11/10/2008, -6/+8No wonder. George W Angriffskrieg killed quite a few US-citizen when he and Blair conned the world with their WMD lies.
- dBLiSS, on 11/10/2008, -2/+6Funny... whenever some starts a comment with "Funny" it's usually some comment where they point out how smart they are for noticing something the "other side" did.

I am not trusting that these assholes will not try to "*****" the will of the American People. We already have 500 facts now as evidence to the contrary. I wish we lived in a world where that was not so. But we know otherwise.
I AM trusting the UNITED STATES SECRET SERVICE! Please don't let us down... please. http://www.secretservice.gov/protection.shtml

Its because of statements like that Obama gets called a Messiah. - rpgmaker, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2I couldn't have said it better myself. fenny45: you obviously have NO idea what catastrophe would ensue in America (and throughout the world) if a recently elected President were harmed. Obama's historic election would only exacerbate the effect.
And let me repeat ,,, one more time... Obama is not our Messiah. He is our PRESIDENT.
Are we clear?

If the people allow him to have all this power, like you are giving him, he has the ability to single handily do what he wants to the country with little to know opposition because the people just assume what he is doing is right. Never mind checks and balances...you are just giving one guy way to much power...
Do I think he will do some great things? Of course. Do I think that it takes more than one president to change a nation. Of Course!

- winnestow, on 12/07/2008, -0/+1"The issue is no longer whether Obama was born in Hawaii or Kenya. I personally believe he was born in Hawaii. But with his paternal grandmother claiming he was born in Kenya, and simple research showing he could NOT have (legally) been enrolled in school in Indonesia as a youth unless his mother renounced his US citizenship, plus the passport matter, the onus is now on him to prove he IS an American citizen. Or, it soon will be.
The matter of standing will be moot once he signs an executive order, or a piece of legislation, or his White House issues a regulation....Any taxpayer or soldier or even a federal worker will automatically get standing by arguing that he or she is being impacted by a decision of a man not constitutionally fit for the presidency. Or, that a decision of a “foreigner” cannot be enforced upon them. There could literally be a million cases filed next year in courts all over the nation. And why not? Why would anyone in the USA voluntarily pay taxes to a government led by a foreigner? The last person to try this was King George III.
Obama is the only one who can stop all this and simply by releasing his birth certificate for public viewing NOW. In my 59 years I’ve had to show my birth certificate to various people a half-dozen times and it was painless. The idea that the president has a right to privacy that you or I don’t have is a perversion of the law of the land. You can say this issue was “sitrred up” by opponents of Obama but that fact fades into irrelevance as millions of cases arise ONLY because this arrogant man resists the simple production of an innocuous public record as basic as his birth certificate.
(Not to mention the potential problems that arise in regards to overseas dealings, at which time foreign governments are likely to argue that treaties and agreements with the USA are now nullified, etc.)"

- NachoBusiness, on 11/09/2008, -1/+33I imagine he'll spend the next 4 years in essentially no environments where anyone who hasn't been screened is anywhere near him, or has a rifle angle at him. Bush probably only was in such a situation a handful of times in 8 years... scarily enough though, someone threw a (malfunctioning) grenade at him one of those times.
It's very hard to kill a president in modern times... Lincoln's secret service was basically just one guy, and since the time of Kennedy the secret service has really upped its control of who gets anywhere near the president.- Daniel591992, on 11/10/2008, -4/+37Seriously, is it just me, or is Secret Service one of the things that makes America awesome?
- IphtashuFitz, on 11/10/2008, -2/+17It's probably not as difficult as you'd expect. The M107 sniper rifle, which has been used by the US military for years, has an effective range of 2000 yards. That's over a mile. Granted, the chances of one of these falling into the hands of an extremist who wants to take out the President is pretty small, but even a good deer rifle can have an effective range of 500-700 yards, or approx. 4/10 of a mile. The only way to protect a person from snipers at such a distance is to keep the target covered at all times. The act of simply walking from a building to a car or helicopter or airplane can expose him enough for a dedicated assassin to have a chance. I'm willing to bet the Secret Service will be extremely careful in minimizing his exposure to any open areas for quite some time...
- NachoBusiness, on 11/10/2008, -0/+15I realize that there's the risk of snipers... but exposure to places a sniper can be is something the SS can and does control. You won't see GWB or Obama or any president rolling down the street in an open-roof motorcade nowadays.
So I still doubt it's all that easy to assassinate a president... in theory it could happen, but I mean, there have been more multi-million dollar movies made about people who come very close to killing the president in the past 15 years than there have been actual people getting close to killing the president. It just ain't that easy to do in real life. - ingodwerefucked, on 11/10/2008, -15/+5the only people who kill presidents are the government. the only true assassination (meaning NOT an inside job) was William Mckinley back in 1901. if obama gets murdered it will be because he wasn't willing to sign off on anymore bailouts.
- nilhilustfreder, on 11/10/2008, -2/+8@IphtashuFitz
A civie .50 Barrett will do the job just as well, and it's legal in every state but CA. In the hands of a skilled shooter, the range is probably better than 2 miles. Unlike some other diggers, however, I tend to doubt the existance of a skilled team of assassins plotting to kill Obama, who is really nobody's enemy. We've already seen the kind of people who do want him dead, and I think it unlikely they will be capable of making such a shot, let alone coming across an 8+ grand weapon and the opportunity to use it. - IphtashuFitz, on 11/10/2008, -1/+2@nilhilustfreder: It only takes one person with the ability to get one of those guns to be a threat to the President. No need for a "skilled team of assassins".
@NachoBusiness: Lee Harvey Oswald demonstrated that a lone gunman with a decent rifle can assassinate a president. That's why the president now drives around in a bulletproof car. However the simple act of walking from that car into a hotel exposes him long enough for a potential assassin to strike. John Hinkley Jr. proved that quite well back in 1981 when he shot President Reagan. With a good hunting rifle you wouldn't even need to get as close as Hinkley did. Hide in the woods 1/2 a mile from the hotel with a good line of site and you'd have a decent chance. There's little the Secret Service can do to protect against that short of keeping the president away.
Just sayin'... - nilhilustfreder, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5@IphtashuFitz
I'm a person with that ability. If you're over 18 and not a felon (or have a friend that meets both criteria) so are you.
Also, the job of the secret service is to notice the direction bullets are likely to come from (like woods, whatever) and move the president in such a way as to avoid giving someone a shot or, failing that, put something (like the president's car, a secret service vehicle, or a meatshield) between the president and the direction of fire.
I suspect he won't be doing a lot of driving around unsecured areas in a convertible, or doing a lot of anything in an unsecured area for that matter. - luseton, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5Usually before an open air appearance, US Secret Service will deploy a electromagnetic sweep around the area using military aircraft or helicopter to make sure the area is free of any unidentified weapons. I hope Obama will more technology to prevent anything from happening for at least another 4 years to 8 years. Obama is the best thing that has happened to the country in the last 24 years.
- kinseyincanada, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7@Iphtahsu yea because you know its so freaking easy to hit a person from a mile away.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcBhaIBdMRo&NR=1 - Andrwmorph, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2There are only a few people in the world that can hit someone from over a mile away (or at least that's what Mark Wahlburg said in the movie Shooter hehe).
- anarcurt, on 11/10/2008, -3/+8OK, a single person does not and can not murder a president. If a single person could really pull this off then I would imagine someone really upset about the way the nation has gone the last 8 years (and there are plenty of people in that pool) would have at least made an attempt at the current president. As it stands a pretzel has been the closest to threatening the life of our current head executive so I believe the lone wacko theory cannot work. As NachoBusiness pointed out it is very hard in modern times to even make a threat. If any attempt were to be made on Obama it would more than certainly be tied to an inside agency or a foreign power.
As a side note, no one man should be powerful enough that his death should matter to this country. We put way to much power in the executive branch.- IphtashuFitz, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5"a single person does not and can not murder a president"
John Hinkley Jr. came awfully damned close to singlehandedly murdering President Reagan in 1981.
On May 10, 2005 while giving a speech in Tbilisi, somebody in the crowd threw a grenade at President Bush. Luckily the grenade didn't go off. (And that was also a bit more serious than the pretzel)
One of the followers of Charles Manson tried to shoot President Ford in September, 1975 and would likely have succeeded if she had chambered a round in the semi-automatic she was carrying. Later the same month a second woman managed to get a shot off from about 40 feet away but a bystander deflected the shot.
There have been plenty of other attempts over the years:

- SecretAsianMann, on 11/10/2008, -7/+2I bet if that comment were spun around 180 degrees and you asked why someone couldn't have assassinated Obama or Clinton, all the little Diggers would be throwing one of their trademark whiny crybaby bitch fits.
- Trebis, on 11/10/2008, -1/+6So you would rather have Cheney as president? lol, buried.
- Volatile36, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6I don't like him, but I don't care what the president does, he's still our president. Take him to court and throw him in jail, impeach him, whatever. He doesn't deserve to be slaughtered.
That being said, neither do the Iraqi and Afghani people. Draw your own conclusions. - DigDugDigger, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1I think what he might mean is that if a president would be assassinated in recent times, it would have been President Bush. He's made a ton of enemies in the US and around the world who would love to make an attempt. So if it was going to happen to a President, I think it woulda happened in the past 8 years.
I think the Secret Service is trained and ready to respond in every possible way he could be attacked, from the nutcase scenario to more state-sponsored elaborate methods. I believe they are very good at what they do... sure a few nutjobs may make threats or even an attempt... but I think the Secret Service are better at what they do than the assassin is at what he's doing (or trying to do). - itsthebrod, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1And cue SS investigation on you in 3... 2... 1...
But seriously, as much as I despise Bush, I don't wish assassination upon *anyone*.
- da_bradler, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6I don't really think he has much to be scared about, have you seen a graphic of how large the presidents secret service detail is? including technical operatives(like those handling intelligence) the number is around 5000, the president of the united states is the most well protected person on the planet.
The secret service that follows the president around could repel a small army, so basically the only real threat is from random individuals who somehow threw bad luck don't get properly screened. You'd never be able to assassinate the president on a preplanned route, the only chance you would have, is if he needs to make an emergency trip to a place that the secret service hasn't been able to double check.- itsthebrod, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3In addition to that, the Secret Service can also request additional security and help from the armed forces (who are required to cooperate with any and all requests). So in essence, the president can also have a very large army help with his protection as well.

- gwohl, on 11/10/2008, -3/+3Well, I've been to the south, and I'd say the "Real America" comments have been pretty accurate. The south is easily much more intolerant than the north - you cannot dispute that. Saying that's generalizing is like saying that New England is a wealthy part of the country is generalizing - sure, not everyone in New England is wealthy, but its population is generally much more affluent than most other parts of the country. Same with racism/intolerance/bigotry in regards to the south. There may be some non-inbred rednecks in the south, but there sure are a much larger number of inbred rednecks in the south than in the north!

@ ReidFleming
"Guess what, we have 'socialist' programs all over the USA - police, fire, schools, libraries. Are those bad? Morons."
Guess what... all those programs you mentioned are funded by local governments and not enforced by a federal government law.. moron.. the difference is that the federal government should not have the power to create a system where it starts re-distributing tax money for any reason it sees fit. Read the constitution sometime and maybe you'll figure that out. - graeh, on 11/10/2008, -1/+3Hah - radical and a socialist.- that may not seem ridiculous when you get it from the partisan talking point dispensers, it may not seem fundamentally retarded when you discuss it amongst like minded friends and all nod in agreement.
But to the rest of the world - to people with educations - saying he's a "radical" and a "socialist" makes us feel embarassed for you, and only seeks to reinforce the stereotype of the ignorant nationalist.
Now - it's not surprising if that ignorant nationalist first gut response is "who cares what the rest of the world thinks"
As many of us on Digg have posted many, many times, go to wikipedia, type "socialist", press "enter", that's all it takes to inform yourself, that you apparently haven't even taken that little effort to educate yourself before saying stupid things like "xyz is a radical and a socialist" reflects really poorly on you.
I kinda wonder - y'know - how many people erroneously accusing others of being socialist actually take the advice and spend the 2 minutes it requires to find out what the term means and why their use of it is undermining their credibility. - Supergliding, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5I sure wish the media would play this youtube clip a thousand times... so us diggers wouldn't have to keep educating the idiots on here...

- tamman2000, on 11/10/2008, -0/+13Who said the sample was random?
- bruce86, on 11/10/2008, -1/+7yeah, you don't understand the meaning of random sample. The story was it was a group of conservatives feeling that way. More over, a group of overly tense conservatives that goto a massage parlor.
At least use comon sense when trying to debunk things - Aguyinachair, on 11/10/2008, -2/+7half of clientele=12 people. There's no reason for anyone to make that up really...
- barfooz, on 11/10/2008, -4/+1You people are pretty pedantic. Okay, so there's probably some bias towards strung-out wackos in the subset of the population that frequents massage parlors. And the story said that there was a conservative bias in the general population. So you've got a somewhat biased sampling of the overall population. Regardless, you're all gullible if you believe the OP. If 50% of conservative people with back pain want to see Obama dead, then he'll be dead tomorrow.
- Zyvo, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6My brother goes to high school in a very conservative area of California, and many of his classmates have been making remarks like this too.

- kanojo1969, on 11/10/2008, -1/+15The death threats have nothing to do with him being painted as a radical, socialist or whatever. it because he's black.
I actually had a conversation today with some moron whose reasoning went thusly: "If we've elected a black man as president, that means we aren't racist any more. And if we aren't racist any more, we should be allowed to call them '*****' in the same way they call each other that."
It's starting to seem that electing a black man is reinvigorating racism in parts of the country.- kelly, on 11/10/2008, -5/+1"it because he's black."
That statement alone is racist. Why can't there be people that are so incensed with a politicians agenda that they would would be so bold to commit such a terrible act.
Obama's policies are very much on the extreme side of the left. His blackness is the least of his worries.
- kelly, on 11/10/2008, -5/+1"it because he's black."
- TempusEdax, on 11/10/2008, -0/+12I was at the election party for Pete Olsen, one of the few Republicans to win a seat in this election (don't ask why, it's a long story) and this attitude was not only common, but openly expressed. There is no shame among this segment of America, and its disappointing and embarrassing to the rest of us. I doubt that any of the people I overheard saying these things would ever take action themselves, but they would be openly happy and or satisfied with the outcome. That's ***** up. Even at the moments where I am angriest at President Bush, I don't wish him dead. Impeached and imprisoned, yes. Dead, no.
Do your part to offset these assholes, and keep an open mind no matter what. Hopefully if the will of the country stays with him, and the secret service stays on its toes, Obama will get to see all four (eight!) years of his presidency. - krustaceo, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1get her to snap some necks

I pray that I'm wrong. - MindTrigger, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3I hear the same things where I live. I'm in a rich part of SoCal, so there are a lot of republicans here (and anywhere else you find concentrations of money).
I haven't had anyone of them cone straight out and say they want him to get shot, but they dance around it. Most of the time they just say, with a smile or grin, that it's only a matter of time before it happens, or that they wonder what kind of gun will be used. You know......they want you to think they are joking, but they clearly aren't. It makes me sick, really. As I have mentioned in many other posts here, I had no idea racism was so alive and well in republican circles until this election. These are the same people that cannot tell me a single reason why McCain should have been president, other than spouting the lies and propaganda his campaign put out there. Most of which was completely debunked, had they bothered to do any research on the candidates.
This is another reason I am a registered non-partisan (independent). The republican party has become a cesspool religious nuts and backwards thinkers. I know there are still some good O.G. republicans out there. I hope you guys can join forces with Ron Paul's people and get back to republican basics. As happy as I am that Obama is our president (voted for him in the primaries and Nov 4th), I do see the need for philosophies that oppose across-the-board liberalism, especially when it comes to fiscal policy. I encourage *everyone* to register non partisan if they are free thinkers and see the merits of both sides of the political table. This will also allow more room for a 3rd party to get into the mix.
Voting on party lines has become a crutch just like religion has. If you are willing to vote for some politician without knowing anything about him, simply because he's on your ticket, you are a waste of oxygen.- smileystar78, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1I heard many people express desire for George W. - nilhilustfreder, on 11/10/2008, -0/+14I think he's better off showing the world he's not afraid of assassination (while still adhering to the utmost security measures, of course) than to spend his presidency, Cheney-like, cowering in a bunker somewhere running the country by telephone.
If, God forbid, he is killed, the resulting outrage couldn't possibly be good for anyone who would have reason to kill him.- Bith8654, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Well that's assuming someone stupid enough to try and kill the President is going to have the insight to think about the repercussions of their actions.
- nilhilustfreder, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2If they want to kill him, chances are they intend it to have certain repercussions beneficial to them or their cause. I'm suggesting that it is unlikely any of Obama's enemies could gain from his death, because of the certain public backlash towards anyone even tangentially linked to a hypothetical assassination.
I wouldn't necessarily describe such a person as stupid, deluded is a better word.

I thought the joke was funny, just pointing that out. Even South Park picked up on it. - DotGet, on 11/10/2008, -4/+5For spaghetti's sake, why the ***** do people digg down serious responses? This is a news discussion not some shallow ***** forum. Digg pisses me off nowadays. - eastmanweb, on 11/10/2008, -1/+6We, the rational ones, need to be the President's "Jack Bauer." The success of Jack Bauer is based on his ability to communicate with the right people in a timely manner. The majority of us have a mobile device. We need to be prepared to use them to contact the authorities if we overhear something or see something suspicious. When we elected this President, we were making an investment in our Country. We must protect that investment.
- anotherjack, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Yep, every single one of us is responsible for protecting our new President.
- luseton, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2"We must protect that investment." Very true and profound.
- DotGet, on 11/10/2008, -1/+4I dugg you down in hopes that you would return to the discussion. It's nothing personal.
My point is not that vigilance isn't important - simply that "Jack Bauer" was a ***** tool. I don't care how much you enjoyed the show, it was a tool. There has never, ever, ever, ever been a 'ticking timebomb scenario' in which a man must be tortured to find out information or, say, 100,000 people die. Never. Look it up. Yet, it happened SO many times on that show.
On Fox.
Starting when? November 6, 2001 - just two months after Sept 11.
That's plenty of time to write a script, draw a storyboard, and film a pilot. It appealed to the fears of every man and woman who were in shock after Sept 11, during the time when the nation needed to be cooperative with "alternative negotiations". Such *****, when it's been proven in studies that torture does not produce near the results as formal negotiations. The fact is that if a man is willing to kill himself in the name of god, he is willing to be tortured to death. Or kill himself as soon as possible.
Point is, 24 is propaganda. That's all I'm saying. I don't mean to get in the way of digg's humorous tirade, or sour the mood, but I think serious talk is important. Yes, to Fox it was just ratings - but consider the fact that it meant the exact same thing for Bush/Cheney. Approval ratings of torture went through the roof after pop media scared people into thinking it was necessary. Last I checked, 30-something percent of the population believe torture is okay under certain circumstances. It's ridiculous. The only thing torture ever did for the human race was contribute another fetish. - widman, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Please, no more of that madness. 24 has a very deep sick message. Just read what's the creator's view:

Although he is a supporter of President Bush—he told me that “America is in its glory days”—Surnow is critical of the way the war in Iraq has been conducted. An “isolationist” with “no faith in nation-building,” he thinks that “we could have been out of this thing three years ago.” After deposing Saddam Hussein, he argued, America should have “just handed it to the Baathists and … put in some other monster who’s going to keep these people in line but who’s not going to be aggressive to us.” - vptel, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2he's prob in the shower, after all it's been 6 days already!

Companies reshape themselves to follow the market all the time.- stormywest, on 11/09/2008, -3/+3True, but dugg his comment for being concerned about the PTB.
- bjhath, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6Circuit City shouldn't be included as a victim of the economy; they were sinking before the economy took a dump.
- Jonh, on 11/10/2008, -0/+12Now that's my kind of conspiracy. Joke aside, if Obama is killed it will be very hard to know for sure who did it.
- DangerCollie, on 11/10/2008, -1/+9Yeah, I'm more worried about the soon to be unemployed Blackwater goons. Although I think anyone seriously thinking of trying something might want to consider how the ATF found out about the two stupids in TN. The ATF called it a tip, but I believe the tip came from the NSA.
All the tools Bush put in place to spy on Americans are now at Obama's disposal. Besides, the Secret Service doesn't play political favorites and they don't dick around. The ones in suits are only the ones you see.
Funny the right wing never worried about anyone whacking Bush, though few presidents have deserved it as much.- jcfisher3rd, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Bush had a vice-presidential insurance policy.
- jraymilton, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Obama does too. Biden's a turd, in various ways, just like Dick.

- jargonaut, on 11/10/2008, -2/+2Obama was put there just like every other President. That said, just because the powers that be wanted to get him in doesn't mean they wanted him to stay there. Creating conflict is their specialty.
- ad33lshahid, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1yea, after bush ruined public opinion what better way to create "hope" than to have either a black president or a woman president. Whats next? Lieberman? possibly-- then the transfer of power overseas would REALLY be complete
- Gemfinder, on 11/09/2008, -2/+14Restructuring is not the same as gutting. America's private sector is suffering now, too, big or small and everything in between.
