- metapop, on 01/26/2008, -17/+100i am so pleased that ron paul is spaceman spiff. it is fitting that he is depicted as the most intelligent comic of all time- gosh, how i miss calvin & hobbes... i can just imagine him saying "take that, neo-con scum!"
not just dugg, favorited.- warlokaz2004, on 01/26/2008, -37/+26I think the point of Ron Paul as spaceman spiff is to show Paul's just an inch away from tin foil hat conspiracies
- BassCadet, on 01/26/2008, -38/+7An inch away? He's right in the middle of it. LOL @ Diggers who wasted the last 6 months of their lives supporting a crackpot theorist. It's no wonder his message is received so well by bigots and the lowest common denominator.
- warlokaz2004, on 01/26/2008, -29/+4true. His campaigns a buncha 9-11 truthers (whom he refuses to rebuke), anti-NAFTA whackos, Bilderberg theorists, gold standard evangelicals and Isolationists. All Ron Paul needs are the Flat Earthers and his whacko confederation will be complete
- warlokaz2004, on 01/27/2008, -4/+1oh look, -20 diggs, the Ron Paul coneheads have been hard at work
- FTLJohnson, on 01/27/2008, -0/+2Actually, pressing the bury button on blatant ignorance isn't really all that hard... I just clicked it three times in a row.. click click click on the three comments above me in this thread... It took me less than a full second to do...
- kodax, on 01/26/2008, -6/+35Ha ha...your country's economy is spinning out of control and your individual liberties have been stripped away and the only candidate that is addressing this is being mocked by the media...thats so funny!
- Beveridge89, on 01/26/2008, -3/+3Not find it a bit ironic for someone living in a dictatorship to be worried about US affairs? I would be worrying about 2047 if I were you.
- metapop, on 01/26/2008, -4/+3@ beveridge89
are you kidding me? the U.S. is going to be ruled by a dictatorship at the rate we're going much sooner than 2047. - Beveridge89, on 01/26/2008, -4/+6Of course it is. You know, i'm actually getting a bit sick of how many people are so egocentric tht they have no idea that real tyranny exists. Hong Kong is already undemocratic, albeit a benevolent and liberal one.In 40 years, that will all change. The PR China can legally apply whatever rule they want over it. It essentially has a giant timer over it, before free thought and individual liberty are destroyed. But right, the US is worse.
metapop, you or I don't know tyranny. Tyranny means we could probably be arrested and convicted for what we have just typed. The World is a lot bigger and a lot worse than the US. Get over yourself. - ChaosMotor, on 01/26/2008, -1/+9Real tyranny exists HERE and NOW, where protesters are resigned to "Free Speech Zones", where citizens are arrested for asking tough questions, where our "representative" government only represents the highest bidder. Just because it's worse elsewhere doesn't diminish the fact that it's bad HERE, and NOW. How much worse does it have to get before you care? "Buh, buh, but other people are woo-oorse!" So ***** what? Let's fix OUR problems, now, before we end up where the "other people" are.
- Beveridge89, on 01/26/2008, -3/+1Great, fine, but when someone claims it is worse, I have a perfect right to set them straight.
You think tyranny means only being allowed to protest in certain places? No, tyranny means shooting and arresting protestors point blank. Tyranny is not just questioning those who ask tough questions, it is their indefinite arrest, their being charged specifically for doing that. The fact is that they aren't on some scale, they are completely different.
You want to know why I dont buy this whole tyranny *****? Universal suffrage. You don't like your present representatives, you can elect new ones. You don't like the present system, elect ones who want to change it. From your point of view, it might be bad, but the good news is your easily able to change it. Thats the furthest thing from 'real tyranny' there is.
But why not 'buh-buh' and destroy the word worst, i'm sure that will make your argument a lot stronger. - GuitaristTom, on 01/26/2008, -2/+2Chaos Motor... protesters are put in free speech zones because they can become unruly and riot for one, and also because the rest of us have to go on with our lives and we dont need people like you getting in the way... would you rather be killed or jailed for your protesting, because that would be much more tyrannical
we're in no way heading backwards as a society, its just that sometimes you have to deal with problems in your own country when people decide they dont like it here, and while you are complaining, the government is trying to tend to your needs while also protecting and providing for you... thats much better than most other countries can say
- metapop, on 01/26/2008, -0/+9well- i suppose if that's what the people in the TV say, it must be right. go ahead and spell out all the "conspiracy theories" that ron paul has promoted for us, i'd love to see what it is you're talking about. don't bother mentioning the NAU, CNN tried that one already, then realized they've been selling it on their own network courtesy of lou dobbs.
- metapop, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1of course i didn't get any sort of response. i wasn't really expecting one, as there aren't any.
- metapop, on 01/26/2008, -0/+3perhaps, but this is a caricature, everything is over exaggerated.
- BassCadet, on 01/26/2008, -38/+7An inch away? He's right in the middle of it. LOL @ Diggers who wasted the last 6 months of their lives supporting a crackpot theorist. It's no wonder his message is received so well by bigots and the lowest common denominator.

Unless you forgot your /sarcasm tag on your post.- metapop, on 01/26/2008, -1/+2i didn't miss anything. this is a caricature.
- TVarmy, on 01/26/2008, -1/+20Ron Paul took Kucinich's ride. :(
- rz8472, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1Is the PFO armed with "deadly" "lasers"?
That would be awesome. - tommydubya, on 01/26/2008, -5/+0Ron Paul definitely should have been Popeye. He makes the exact same expression whenever someone attacks him in a debate.
- ricperry1, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1I would have liked to see RP cast as The Lone Ranger. But I can live with Spaceman Spiff.
- rentmitchum, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1But I liked Huckleberry Hound.. =(
- warlokaz2004, on 01/26/2008, -37/+26I think the point of Ron Paul as spaceman spiff is to show Paul's just an inch away from tin foil hat conspiracies
- TaintedWisdom, on 01/26/2008, -29/+9Being a Ron Paul fan I'm not sure if the depiction of him as being the alter ego of Calvin is truly positive. Remember that they are just "fantasies." Hopefully, thats not the intentions of this artist, and is more towards Calvin's "Defender of freedom and liberty!" :)
- nospinhere, on 01/26/2008, -4/+7holy ***** you need to get a life
- metapop, on 01/26/2008, -0/+7i'm a RP supporter, learn to take a joke. stop giving geekchic fodder for mocking you.
- Castellan, on 01/26/2008, -0/+4Sometimes a cartoon is just a cartoon.
- geekchic, on 01/26/2008, -55/+63You can't win on this one.
If the picture missed out Ron Paul, there would be howls of protests and dubious claims of media bias.
As the cartoon does include Ron Paul, the supporters will complain that the image is not suffficiently flattering.
The rest of us though - wont get our knickers in a twist over a mere cartoon and will just point at the RP fanatics and laugh.- ufia, on 01/26/2008, -22/+34Depicting Ron Paul as a cartoon is very offensive. The author should apologize, or he will face the consequences.

- micropublisher, on 01/26/2008, -5/+24Hey, I support Ron Paul, but come on! If you can't take a political joke then you don't want you your guy elected. Then you'll have to live with four or eight years of political ragging.
- bxblox, on 01/26/2008, -5/+6How much for a ride on your pretentious train?
- metapop, on 01/26/2008, -4/+14don't be ridiculous- as i said in my comment above, i think this is great. the only thing i'm disappointed about is your stereotyping and blanket generalizations. "the rest of us though- won't get our knickers in a twist..." you're an idiot.
- Sinnic, on 01/27/2008, -0/+5So I take it you missed the first comment (by a Paul supporter), who is obviously and vocally in favor of the depiction of Paul present in this cartoon? And the fact that he's been dugg up 59 times? While I think metapop has sufficiently exposed the inanity of your comment, I'd feel remiss for not calling you an idiot myself.
- geoboy, on 01/27/2008, -1/+6It's amazing how your sweeping generalization of Paul supporters even gets dugg up.

- Frostman3D, on 01/26/2008, -21/+44That's all fine and dandy, but let's see those democratic candidates. Hilary is worse than all the Republicans combined.
- ThE0eNiGmA, on 01/26/2008, -9/+41Seriously? Have you seen Huckabee or Giuliani? Either one of them is worse than Hilliary, and I am not even a Hillary fan.
- cderry, on 01/26/2008, -22/+6Huckabee worse than Hillary? Wow, thanks for making my day and it's only 8:10 a.m. here. I always enjoy a good laugh when someone makes a horrible statement like that.
- bot001220, on 01/26/2008, -4/+14Read up on some of his quotes regarding evolution, homosexuals and the (illegal) war in Iraq. There are more, but that could be a starting point for you.
- senatorpjt, on 01/26/2008, -5/+9Yeah, the difference is that I believe those are really his positions, which is why he's better than Hillary. Hillary will say anything to get elected.
- jcm267, on 01/26/2008, -6/+4That (legal) war in Iraq was voted for by Hillary, and Obama won't exactly just pull the troops out tomorrow.

- DeadRooster, on 01/26/2008, -3/+74Batman is totally wrong for Giuliani--he should be either Count Chocula or Simon Bar-Sinister.
- MillionsLivio, on 01/26/2008, -0/+21911-Man depicts him fine.
- chris9902, on 01/26/2008, -1/+13He should be Robin since Robin has no real super powers expect a cell phone... oh, no bars....

- boombye, on 01/26/2008, -1/+5Batman doesn't have super powers either.
- senatorpjt, on 01/26/2008, -0/+8The Tick.
(from wikipedia): He is high-spirited, frequently obtuse, and prone to quipping odd, dim remarks and "inspirational" speeches filled with bizarre metaphors. His superpowers are nigh-invulnerability, which allows him to crash and bang about without injury (though not necessarily without pain); super strength (he can bend a steel girder with ease); and something referred to as "drama power," or basically a tendency for the Tick's powers to increase as the situation becomes more dramatic. He can also survive out in space without a suit and underwater without oxygen. Despite his nigh-invulnerability, in the animated series, the Tick is portrayed as being vulnerable to blows to the head, which often cause temporary brain damage. He is known for his nonsensical battle cry, "Spoooooon!," which he decided upon one day while eating breakfast (specifically, the cereal Drama Flakes).
Sounds like him, alright. - ostracize, on 01/26/2008, -0/+2Batman is from Gotham City after all.

- ladalang, on 01/26/2008, -13/+4Rudy is shown as a super hero, wow they missed that mark, I would more think he would be depicted as the Joker. And Ron Paul in a space craft? - kelt65, on 01/26/2008, -7/+5Guiliani should have been Nosferatu, not Batman. And as a vehement leftist, I disagree with the characterization that Ron Paul is loony. Although I disagree with him on many things, he is the ONLY republican candidate who is SANE.
- jcm267, on 01/26/2008, -4/+4If you think that Ron Paul is sane and the rest of the Republican field isn't then I suggest you up your meds.
- njcarlos, on 01/26/2008, -2/+4jcm...wait, I recall this comment from you: "That (legal) war in Iraq was voted for by Hillary, and Obama won't exactly just pull the troops out tomorrow."
Who is sane again? Oh, the neocon nut job, of course! Let me guess, you garner all your intellectual prowess from being spoon-fed by Mr. Hannity? Go sit in the corner you clown.- jcm267, on 01/26/2008, -2/+3Hello clueless Ron Paul supporter. Has Ron Paul come up with any realistic plan about what we should do about Islamic Jihadism or how he would go about abolishing the fed, the IRS, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Education, phasing out social security, etc? Has Ron Paul said who wrote those racist newsletters yet? Has he fired the white supremacist campaign worker in Michigan yet?
You're deluded if you think that Ron Paul is the sane candidate and the other Republicans are all crazy.

- kelt65, on 01/26/2008, -3/+5yes i think torture, wiretapping, war and whisking people away in the middle of the night is insane. And that is what the mainstream GOP (and mostly the Dems as well) support.
Yes, the mainstream is insane.- jcm267, on 01/26/2008, -2/+3Well McCain definitely opposes torture. Who are they whisking away in the middle of the night? Islamic Jihadists who aren't even US citizens? We are in a war that was started by Islamic Jihadists whether you like it or not, deluded one.

- r3574r7, on 01/26/2008, -8/+5Of course no "Democratic Candidates as 'Toons" because let's face it that would be buried in less than five minutes, and since the most of the idiots on digg are in love with Obama
- munen123, on 01/26/2008, -1/+1r3574r7 no we are in love with fools like you
- TheKeithD, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1...you misspelled "Ron Paul".
- grampajoe, on 01/26/2008, -4/+0Is it wrong that, with the exception of the two whose names are written out, I had no idea who these were supposed to be? Or is the cartoonist just really bad at drawing?
- munen123, on 01/26/2008, -0/+3no i think its lack of imagination on grampajoe's part. the rest of the world seems to get it.....
- Scheissen, on 01/26/2008, -5/+1lol look at all the itnernet nerds saying omg ron paul suks. Go vote for you democraptic candidate while I go for freedom.
- schrutefan, on 01/26/2008, -4/+3Shouldn't it be Kucinich in the UFO?
- amoo3, on 01/27/2008, -0/+2Because he is definitely a Republican.
- Tikisam, on 01/26/2008, -1/+3I can tell which one's Romney, but I can't tell if it's supposed to be a specific character. Richey-rich maybe?
- MajorLeague, on 01/26/2008, -1/+1That Romney is amazing because it's multidimensional. He is clearly obsessed with money but his look (in the cartoon it's his cuteness and in real life his handsomeness) is mindlessly endearing. I love these!!
- cartoonmonkey, on 01/26/2008, -0/+0Matt Wureker is a genius, fantastic cartoonist! Politico is lucky to have him!
Great caricatures!! - axiao, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1can someone explain to me the ron paul bits? i dont get the whole space cadet thing, or is there another way of looking at it?
- Audhumla, on 02/07/2008, -0/+0he is completely insane; his head is in space
- up2nogud247, on 01/27/2008, -0/+0as the republicans say...
"One word: A Mazing!" - ricperry1, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1I would have liked to see RP cast as The Lone Ranger, but that's just me.
- kopf1988, on 01/28/2008, -0/+1*whisper* raise taxes *whisper*
Nice, btw. - ironpirate, on 02/03/2008, -0/+1popeye is going to be president
- Dudeee, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1stop catorgizing rp supporters as all the same were all individuals and i thought this cartoon was very well done and funny. and i support ron paul
