- CloakandSwagger, on 10/12/2007, -35/+8Rudy had to set his profile to private!
I guess that's what happens when you're a maritally unstable crossdressing member of the "morals" party, and have a nasty record of neglecting 9/11 victims and their families.
I'm not the least bit surprised that Obama is the most popular by an exceedingly large margin.
Even if people weren't receptive to his position on the issues or drawn to him by his sheer charisma, he's got prettier faces on his top 16 than the other candidates.
Anybody know if Rupert Murdoch is lingering somewhere in Hillary's friend's list?- doctorfungi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+61If MySpace friends are anything to go on, I fear the day that Panic! at the Disco gets into Presidency.
*Shudder* - alphaborie, on 10/12/2007, -15/+0stop flaming.
- ipodsweatshop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow, I hope not. Talk about the least common denominator...
- mr1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Anyone know if Tom is running for President?
No one else would have a chance against him if it were up to his MySpace "friends" - catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+680,000 of his 81,000 friends are most likely spam bots. I'm an Obama supporter but this is the reality of myspace. I doubt whoever runs his profile is checking for spammers when they accept friends.
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Who's making the t-shirts. "I added Barack Obama on myspace"
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Will MySpace members be old enough to vote by 2008?
- kutza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm just waiting for someone on here to admit they have more myspace friends than Obama...
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Judging from list, it appears Democrats are more hip among the MySpace set than Republicans, with Barack Obama being the clear front runner."
I'm surprised that there's any young Republicans who even know how to use a computer... - mdhauke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2lol @ Myspace
If anything, it's a measure of who the worst candidate is. - funhouse1970, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cloakandswagger - right on! don't understand the digg down
"Rudy had to set his profile to private!

Totally agree.

- fsaldana09, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0Maybe not a predictor of success, but sure as hell makes it clear what they're doing on their pda's.
- ManFading, on 10/12/2007, -3/+83It would mean a lot if 14 year olds could vote! lol
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Look at a random page on Obama's or McCain's friend list, the average age is about 23. The range looks like it's typically 20-32 year olds who are the ones on MySpace who care about politics.
- ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Yeah. Too bad young 20-something people are the least likely demographic to vote, eh?
The fact that young people like Obama means nothing in the grand scheme of things. - WarpFox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@ily
Actually, this last election saw the biggest increase in young voters in decades.
http://people-press.org/reports/pdf/300.pdf
Report only covers up to 2004 however, I believe. Great info though.
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2But who will Tom vote for?
- RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+69Good God. If Myspace friends is a predictor of success, than this country is much worse off than I had feared.
- gen2ux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18I second that. This is so pathetic.
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'd hate to think that the demographics of the (informed) voting public are represented on MySpace.
- lieutenantmudd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I like how Giuliani's profile is private. What's the point?
- furryplanet, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4he has something to hide :P
- jferrari, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7he is smarter than the rest.
- CloakandSwagger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@ lieutenantmudd
Point is, Rudy has to set his profile to private because he can't be transparent on the issues that are lingering from his past.
He's going to get attacked from the right for being maritally unstable and crossdressing, or his position on gay marriage etc. etc.
And that's the party of which he's a member.
Then he'll get attacked from everyone else on any other number of issues, but mostly for his mistreatment of the 9/11 victims and their families.
- OMGWTFROFLMAOx2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Because this is all you really care about, not the actual article (which doesn't really say much anyways):
Barack Obama 81623 Friends
John Edwards 16012 Friends
Hilary Clinton 5492 Friends
John McCain 2579 Friends
Mitt Romney 2944 Friends
Bill Richardson 1784 Friends
Ron Paul 1670 Friends
Dennis Kucinich 1425 Friends
Joseph Biden 1279 Friends
Christopher Dodd 494 Friends
Rudy Giuliani - Profile Set to Private- mhockey14221, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Rudy seems like the only one who knows how myspace should work
- brufleth, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5I can't help but suspect Mitt Romney of padding his friends list. Nobody likes that guy. Even Republicans in his home state of MA have grown to dislike him.
- furryplanet, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15I think you have the wrong Ron Paul myspace site... There are more than that one..
http://www.myspace.com/congressmanronpaul has 4668 friends. The one thats in the artical has 1670. So its more like 6338 if you add up both myspace sites. So RON PAUL is number 3 in the list above Hilary, and below Edwards!
Just thought I'd point that out.
VOTE RON PAUL 2008!- starcrunchfx, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10Ahh, the conspiracy to show Ron Paul in a negative light continues...
- MikeSD34, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8If and only if you could account for the fact that some people aren't shared between that list. But given that someone can befriend both accounts, that number is less than accurate.
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Uh, question:
What is Ron Paul's platform? - quux, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4@Fordi,
Kind of like a Libertarian (yea!), except he doesn't want women to have the right to an abortion.
Basically, he doesn't have a snowball's chance. - kurtu5, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9His platform is the constitution. Imagine that.
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5I just finished reading up on his platform, his chances, and such.
Ron Paul has many views I disagree with and many that I don't. The ones that I do agree with outweigh those I question. Specifically the abolition of income tax and a central bank, the return to the gold standard, and such are very good ideas. His position on abortion is stupid, but then, Bush has had stupid views on abortion for years and look how far he's gotten in doing something about it.
Unfortunately, the liklihood of his even getting nominated are slim to none. Next best thing: Obama. Sure, he's an entirely different political animal, but there are a LOT of changes to be made; statistically, Obama's more likely to get elected, and his views have similar merit in my eyes. I'm a democrat (in party only; it's a politically better thing in Philly to be a democrat), so that's who I'll be going after in 2008's nominations.
If Paul were nominated against Obama, I feel that the changes Paul would implement would be of higher priority than Obama's, so I would vote for Paul.
This won't happen, though. In presidential elections, it's the lesser of two evils, not the greater of two goods.
@kurtu5:
"His platform is the constitution. Imagine that."
This is a meaningless statement. Every would-be president's platform is 'the constitution'. I wanted details and you gave me a broad generalization. Thanks for nothing, parrot. - 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As there are a few Ron Paul myspace sites it is an easy mistake to make.
- kurtu5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Wow angry much Ford?
No there is not a single recent president that I can recall that wanted to return to constitutionaly based principles.
So his platform being the constitution is fairly accurate. Or should I had added "originalist" to keep you from calling me a parrot. BTW, a parrot of what exactly?
Most modern presidental candidates say we should do X or Y or Z, but X, Y and Z are not exactly the purvue of the executive branch nor based on constitutional principles, well if you don't count the abuse of Executive Orders.
However, he wont get anywhere. Especially on his originalist view on central banking. Anyone remember what happened when "Bull Moose" was encouraged to run by the bankers to stop Taft from coming in to office thus guaranteing that the central bank friendly Wilson(or more specifically Col. House) get into office?
- furryplanet, on 10/12/2007, -19/+5I think you have the wrong Ron Paul myspace site... There are more than that one..

- banderbe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38How many friends does Britney Spears' MySpace page have?
Maybe she should be President.
This is possibly the dumbest thing I have ever seen on Digg.- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Mayhap you didn't see the Killer Wedgie article?
- psych0fish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@banderbe
you must be knew here.
- thefirelane, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9>Is this a predictor of success?
no, my bet is that "money" is a predictor of success.
Next question- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've heard that's a myth. At least, Freakanomics made a pretty good case for it.
- quux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So did Ross Perot.
- joaob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Obama's page was not created by him or anybody associated with him....in fact the creator is just now getting support from Obama's committee.
i had to delete Obama as a friend after receiving a bulletin with an Amazon ref link encouraging me to check out the book.- RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I deleted Obama as a friend after he tried to take my 2nd amendment rights away.
- Lyph4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9The majority of MySpace users are between the ages of 12 and 17. Seeing as how they cannot vote, this means slightly less than Jack *****.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -4/+717 y/o 's will be able to vote in 08' and some 16y/o's also
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11FTA: "Judging from list, it appears Democrats are more hip among the MySpace set than Republicans.."
No, Republicans just have better things to do with their time than screw around on Myspace.- jodokast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Or maybe they just don't know how to use the internets.
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No, it's just that the Republicans' fat, wrinkly asses can't fit through the internet tubes.
- civperc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11most of the people supporting these guys via the net won't actually go to the polls. they'll be too busy reposting chain letters...
- Calann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Good thing George W. Bush isn't trying to get elected again, all of his MySpace friends have removed their names except for his dog Barney.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13We need a way to sign up as sworn enemies.
- RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I wish Digg had this feature as well.
- chijim70, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I really like Biden... I hope people get wise to the fact that he is the only guy out there with a real understanding of and real solutions to the mess we are in overseas. He's very likeable just as a guy too.
Other candidates might be likeable etc. but I haven't heard any of them give any real clear to understand exactly what they mean statements about thier understanding of, nor plan for, our future. Just broad generalizations etc. Same old political ramblings of a better US etc etc.- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the only person who should be trusted as having a clear solution for Iraq needs to be a general in Iraq. Our boys in Washington don't know *****.
- kaiser44, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1just a few more assholes spreading lies and propaganda on you tube.,
- skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1A couple of his myspace friends are kinda hot.
- DraconWolf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Wow, these guys have nothing on Tom. I guess once you conquer myspace all you have left is the USA.
- forgottenhope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Tom is a default friend. Tom is not that cool.
- jferrari, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Quite clearly you should vote for Rudy Giuliani, he's the only one intelligent enough to set his profile to private.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5None of these guys made these Myspace profiles fans did
- thinkstoomuch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Someone tell me why we give a flying ***** how many myspace friends the next leader of the free world has?
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They just announced the NWO policy yesterday. All future laws and policies will be made via popular vote using myspace as the medium.
- SteelChicken, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Myspace is full of vapid whores. Dem's like to pander to vapid whores so this seems logical.
People who think dems are cooler because of it? Well you're a *stupid* vapid whore.
(I also hate republicans so its not party bias)- RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2MySpace is this elections "Rock the Vote".
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I take offense to that; I'm a whore with quite a bit of substance, thank you very much.

Most conservatives, such as myself, aren't into the whole social networking scene. Most people who are online and into the whole myspace thing are young progressives with a more liberal mindset....
This would be the main cause of the numbers you are seeing. - squarehalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Is this a predictor of success?"
No. No it is not. - Awesome1234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Is this a predictor of success?"
I think if people read the article, they would sense the author is being ironic. - kolobcreek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Barack Obama.... Still a hundred million votes short of a victory. And he has a lot to prove before the election.
- FizixMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1A presidential candidate having a MySpace page is a reason for me NOT to vote for them.

Thank you- mdhauke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"vote for someone who has leadership skills and a high level of intelligence"

- kaiser44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well that leaves out all the dems and most of the repubs, 3rd party or libertarian =losers. So i guess we have to wait a little longer for the candidate to appear.
