- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -23/+10I doubt this will make it to the front page.
It is very informative, which is why it *should* make it to the front, but it isn't inflammatory or provocative in any way.- NotPerfectDude, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2The information itself is great. There could be a case made for the pictures being slightly provacative, if a person wanted to look into those types of things.
- unununium272, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Problem is though, they don't include Gen. Wes Clark. He is probably more likely to run than Gore, to tell the truth.
- slothchunk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5cool resource. they should expand it to encompass what they've said on key issues
- laplacian, on 10/12/2007, -8/+42only Republicans and Democrats? At least *pretend* we have more than 2 views in this country and list the 3rd party candidates.
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -19/+15OBAMA 2008!
- verifex, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Hey look, the republicans have 12 old white men versus the democrats 6 old white men.
(Dean Edwards and Mike Huckabee aren't that 'old' yet)
I, for one, would like to see this country represented by someone with a different perspective then just another old white man. I think change is good. I support Obama, Hillary or maybe that Dean guy. - lzfootball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That's interesting that verifex thinks that race and gender are the only things that can influence a point of view. It shouldn't matter what race or gender they are, as long as they are right for the job and right for me.
- verifex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@lzfootball
You are right, race and gender are definitely not the only things that influence someones point of view. However, it is disingenuous to discount them as not important, especially in this day and age. And I'm not so simple-minded as to say that Obama or Hillary or any of the others "deserves" the presidency simply for a characteristic they have such as their race or gender. However, we are lucky enough to have presidential candidates who have both the different perspective, and great qualifications for the job. - wintermd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Democrats are floundering because in reality, they don't have a policy on Iraq. They know that the American people's first choice is victory, but that is the one option that, for them, is not on the table.
They would like to surrender - d00ley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@wintermd - You watch too much T.V. and listen to too much radio.
- NotPerfectDude, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2The information itself is great. There could be a case made for the pictures being slightly provacative, if a person wanted to look into those types of things.
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18yikes! I'm going to be able to vote in the 2008 elections.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Awesome. Now we all just hope you go out an vote.
- Shawnosaurus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I hope you do end up voting. I don't care who you vote for as long as you vote =) If you don't vote you can't bitch about anything political, ever.
- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24You better vote or P diddy is gonna bust a cap in your ass.
- missinglink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28By all means, vote. But before you do, inform yourself.
- SlackerCSB, on 10/12/2007, -16/+8It would be nice if Digg added an option to allow you to filter comments out by age. I'd love to filter out a lot of the fanboi and liberal crap.
- RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I agree with missinglink. Please inform yourself on the issues you feel are important, then make your decision.
- skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I wish they would lower the voting age to 17.
- kelbear, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Agreed, you should vote. But DO NOT VOTE if you are not informed. Doing so actually dilutes the power of rational decision-making in the voting process. Random votes are not needed, so be sure to read up before the day hits.
- super_spyder, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2This may sound bad, but i don't vote mainly because my state (california) ALWAYS votes swings democrat, and thats the way I would have voted any way. Now if i lived in ohio, or forida or something i would vote, or if it was changed to a direct election rather than a representative one again i would vote but it just seems pointless for me to vote in my state.
- Misesean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"If you don't vote you can't bitch about anything political, ever."
Au contraire - it'd be more sensible to say that if you DO vote, you can't bitch about anything political, ever. (If you vote, you're implicitly accepting the proposition that voting is a fair way to make decisions, therefore you have no right to complain about any decision made in that manner. Those who don't vote are the only ones who have a right to complain.) - forgottenhope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I do not believe voting counts to the full extent as most may argue. As the 2000 elections shows, the majority and the more votes did not win Al Gore the election. However the majority of the country that voted for him, their votes didn't count. They simply did not count. If they did Al Gore would have been president.
The freedom of speech is granted to every American, whether or not they cast a vote. No were in the laws of our country does it say people who do not vote can not speak out.
If people could hear ron paul speak, they would not be sure, is this guy republican or democrat. Why? Because what he believes, does not come from party punch lines, instead he gets his beliefs derived from the constitution. - Area417, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1First time voting? Good for you. A site that can help you with your decision is Project Vote Smart.
- bSimms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was just looking for something like this last night. Wikipedia is good but not as comparative amongst the candidates. Thanks
- ngmcs8203, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Another great resource is http://www.ontheissues.org/ if you are looking for more information.
- PhantomBantam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hmm. I just took the test on ontheissues.org. Apparently I shouldn't vote for anyone in 2008.
- AnotherCanadian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25democracy is in a sad state when candidates have to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to have any chance at presidency. and when so much of that money comes from corporations, it makes you wonder who really runs the country
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14You left out (and some of these may change, but based on past performance) being white, male, married with children, and a professed Christian.
- Retuobak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I can see democracy being in a sad state because of the fact you have to raise a lot of money to win, and in doing so, you'll be owing a lot of people. But I don't see how democracy is in a sad state when you "have to be" white, male, married with children and Christian. Obviously, the majority of voters values that in America, and thus it conforms with the democratic process. In my eyes it's not a good thing that those things are 'requirements' many voters have, but democracy just plainly is the voice of the majority, and the majority seems to want a white married Christian male president.
I'm curious who will win the primaries btw, which candidates have the best chances? (Not American, so I can't follow all the media coverage) - Richthofen80, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Dumbledorito, If your assertion is correct, then Ms. Clinton and Mr. Obama have no shot at the nomination.
However, your assertion is probably incorrect, since those two are currently the favorites to win the nomination of the Dems. - Triffid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2uh... people voting for who they think is best for the job is what democracy should be. Just because people vote for ("white, male, married with children, and a professed Christian"), doesn't mean there is something wrong with "the state of democracy". You may find something wrong the criteria you listed... but that would make you in the minority. Isn't that what democracy is? Majority wins?
- AnotherCanadian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2well said, Retuobak, but a candidates skin color/religion really should have no roll in deciding who to vote for. sometimes i just wish america could become a secular run state. religion just complicates everything
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@richtofen80: Did you miss the "based on past performance," there? You might want to read rather than skim.
- altjeringa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Makes you wonder? I thought it left absolutely no doubt who runs the country.
- Raider8654, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4McCain is going to win. You heard it here first!
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4The Daily Show said it best:
"Clusterf*ck to the White House!" - follower64, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It is WAY too early to name any official names. It's like talking about the World Series while we're still in the preseason.
- RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4We've already had candidates bow out. Does this happen in baseball's preseason also?
- altjeringa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Clinton or Obama, vs McCain or Giuliani.
How's that for naming names. - bmas05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@RuffRidr: You're obviously not a fan of the Devil Rays....
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Hillary Clinton I CHOOSE YOU!
"Rawwwr"- warox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Did you just make a purring noise at Hillary?
gross, dude
- warox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Did you just make a purring noise at Hillary?
- mmgreenmms, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Looks like Al Gore got be president of something if you look at his 'Current Job Position'
- DirtyBrowncoat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Now I know why Ron Paul is running as a Republican. How can you call this "full coverage" when you only focus on the Republicrat party?
Paul is the only one who can save our Republic. A vote for anyone else is just re-arranging the deck chairs.- wssharp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7someone needs to build a more attractive website for ron paul

- boomboxer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3tommy thompson is running for president?
- NotPerfectDude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Yum, RFID chips

Answer a few questions about your views on the issues, and instantly see the % agreement rating for each of the candidates in the field.- boomboxer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yeah but that's assuming that people vote based on the issues.
- eschreib, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Complain, argue, gripe, bitch, yelp, comment, prod, poke, scream, and debate.
Just be sure to go out and vote.
Democracy. - theturnmaster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Go Ron Paul!
Very interesting read though. Nice too see there are lots running, too bad the two party system means really only 2 people are running. - manonmars, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Hmm... didn't knew Al Gore is up for 2008 presidential candidate, is it official?
- akaz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Nope, not yet. Hopefully he will be running. I'd definitely vote for him and so would many others.
- mvalbuena, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Why? Because you are stupid enough to think he believes the big hoax that people are causing global warming and it's not the sun cycles. Check out how Al Gore has $1300 electrical and $1000 gas bills for his house. Vote for Ron Paul, a real American.
- spz104, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Ron Paul 2008!
Just can't bring myself to register Republican to vote for him in the primary. Well, maybe for Ron Paul. - Jeffmr1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Anyone who really supports Ron Paul; all Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Independents, etc., the only way he has a chance is if he wins the primaries. That means if you really support him, register Republican so you can vote him up, nothing is wrong with that. If he doesn't make the cut, you can always reregister to your personal party choice.
- Herkimer56, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2He won't be in the primaries. He won't get enough signatures to get on the ballot.
- akaz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Ron Paul is a douchebag.
- donkadonk911, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If Ron Paul is a douchebag.... then he will clean out all these pu$$ies
My vote is for Ron Paul.... check the polls.... douchbag is running up your back side - Misesean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin have open primaries - you don't have to register as a Republic to vote for him.
- Misesean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or a Republican, either (oops! Though if you want to register as a Republic, I'm all for it :)
- Darel99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jeffmr1.... Your correct. I have never been so involved in politics as I have been since our VA senate elections and wasn't happen with Web or Allen. Dr. Ron Paul is the only option we have to improve our nations future. So if you support him.. Send money to his explore segment and get involved in your local Republican Committee. If your not sure how to locate your local committee then be sure to contact your states Republican Party office. Take the time to educate other republican's about Dr. Paul.
Make no mistake he can win... That is if we simple get the word out. He is the type of man who only needs the opportunity and he will do the rest.
I have always hated to put bumper stickers on my car and plant signs but once he is out of the explore section we need to support him in every way possible. If you haven't already sent your contribution then make sure you do. I have just ordered a bumper sticker for my Saab and will apply it with pride.
- sladek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Chuck and Newt?
what kind of lame ass names are those! - buddy06, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Obi-Wan Kenobi or Elvis, please come back...we need you
- pleiadianagenda, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Ron Paul is the only logical choice. He's the only honest and sincere one listed. The rest of them, except maybe Kucinich, wouldn't be trustworthy enough to walk my dog.
- akaz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Forget dogs. Could you sit down and have a beer with him like with George Bush? Hmm? Didn't think so!
- synthsrkl, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1it's funny how all the republican candidates look far more evil just in a photograph, than the democrats
- amar5677, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6well the fact that you have hillary clinton in your line of photographs kinda balances that out.
- mrbeagle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So your vote is based on how "evil" a candidate looks in his picture?
- amar5677, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4McCain in 08!
- motbob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Look at the pictures down the right column. What do all of those Republicans have in common?
- Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8They all have balls?
- metalrock76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Al Gore's views on Technology
http://www.ontheissues.org/Celeb/Al_Gore_Technology.htm - craigyjack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"washingtonpost.com's Presidential Field database will include full coverage of the candidates as the election season unfolds."
Maybe when they say FULL coverage they should at least cover a couple other parties besides just Democrats and Republicans. That doesn't seem to be FULL coverage to me, just coverage of the two main parties, since you all know, the Constitution explicitly says we should only have two parties to vote for and that is it (sarcasm). - polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Uhhh no third party candidates?
- altjeringa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3God I can't believe Newt is running. Everytime I see that man I want to break things. His total screwing of politics in this country is still killing us. How can he even show his face in public.
- parasitewasp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I hope he is our next president.
- Darel99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree atljeringa... Check out Dr. Ron Paul

- diggsIt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Senators never get elected Pres., but Joe Biden should.
- SLuM, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2General Wesly Clark please, securingamerica.com is his website. Great man, o did I mention he was the supreme commander of NATO (like the late Dwight Eisenhower)? He can help win the war in Iraq (mass deployment), I hope. There's nothing better than having a General as a President during a time of war. Either that or vote for Rudy Guiliani (mass deployment). Every other candidate wants to give up, not these two guys--they actually want to win and secure the area for the future of humanity.
- d17182, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, not only is Mike Gravel including the FairTax in his platform, he's also Unitarian. That's interesting
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/2008-presidential-candidates/mike-gravel/ - shirosamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Once again, shameless plug... but for the true progressives out there who aren't interested in Hillary and don't quite trust Obama's [in]experience, have a look at Dennis Kucinich's platform -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Kucinich#2008_Presidential_campaign
- diggsIt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Dennis has some good things to say, but - take it from a Clevelander - as President he'd be a train wreck.

http://digg.com/politics/BBC_Reported_Building_7_Had_Collapsed_20_Minutes_Before_It_Fell- Herkimer56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's probably because it was buried as often as it was dugg. Reasonable, intelligent human beings have a tendency to bury trash like that.
- donkadonk911, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Did you even look at the story or the video? Who again is posting the drivel?
Sounds like you are commenting out of your arses...... and I sure hope that ain't your breath I'm smellin
- fearziz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Once AGAIN a politically fueled pieace of junk report. For example they don't miss the last time Obama took a dump in his Bio but Tom Tancredo Bio just say's he's a rep. from colorado......Let me update you "for the record".
He is a member of both the House International Relations and Resources Committees. He is also the chairman of the 104-member bipartisan House Immigration Reform Caucus. In addition, Tom is a member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Canadian-American Parliamentary Assembly. - rvroman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6what about 3rd party candidates?
- SLuM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5rofl digging me down for naming 2 of the best candidates from each party. I sure hope Obama doesn't win and turn this country into a communist/socialist state.
- Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Clinton and Gingrich are the only two who make me want to vomit so far...

- patr84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5No 3rd party candidates, that's the mainstream media for you. Luckily, casting a vote for Ron Paul will be the most powerful statement a 3rd party voter can make this election season. He's a Libertarian running as a Republican solely because of the media/government enforced two party system. He is the rare major party politician fighting for the rights of third parties. If he wins, he might put reforms in place to finally end the two party status quo.
- EvilGnomeAndy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is anyone else seriously perturbed by our lack of an instant runoff voting system for presidential elections?
- burlives, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Remember, if none of the candidates tickle your fancy there is no shame in not voting.

www.myspace.com/ronpaul08 - SelfAbortion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why didn't they put George W. Bush in there? Surely everyone knows by now that there will be a terrorist attack near the elections that will require us to draft into law (an executive order, rather) a provision allowing a president to remain in office indefinitely as long as the terrorist threat is substantial.
- edgeoforever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Incomplete. Clark is ignored as per orders to black out. Buried as inaccurate.
- SelfAbortion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Where are the 3rd party and independent candidates? And stfu with the "a vote for so-and-so independent is stealing a vote from so-and-so." Sick of that nonsense. Lame and incomplete article.

- cbergeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know what forms/documents need to be filled out in order to become a presidential candidate?
If so, could you please post a link? I've researched it, but I can't seem to figure it out. Perhaps if more of us knew how to run for the office of the President, better options would become available to the general public. -
